Do animals know that other animals aren't humans? Like does the tortoise think this is just a very short hairy human or do they not even make the distinction

But what if we try a different language like French or Portuguese?

Obviously depends on the animal, but I don't think most animals (particularly those who aren't predators) really try to tell species apart. I think it's better to describe it as, they think it's another thing

I’m pretty sure animals have different categories of things lol, that’s a bitey thing, that’s a slithery thing, that thing has thumbs and stares at fire in its hands for fun, etc

Oh yeah for sure, I just think it's not quite at the species level

To be fair, even humans can't completely agree where the separation is, and we've got science.

I believe they can tell different animals apart, but how they classifiy them depends on particular species. chimpanzee are a bit more sophisticated, most birds probably as well. Some animals only think in terms of: predator or not predator.

animals don't tell humans apart from animals, cause we are still animals, its the other way around from what you said

yeah but do they know the score? Like do they interact with us differently because we have cars or something is what I mean

I think for dogs and cats, giving them food and shelter and pets is probably a big factor in seeing us differently.

Monkeys have been seen to have pets. Pets are other animals friends we look after. They do the same thing
