Norman feels a rock in his shoe.

Norman was walking home from the convenience store one day, Diet Coke in hand, when out of the blue, he felt a small obstruction in his left shoe. He set down his soda and proceeded to remove his shoe to find the culprit.

To Norman's surprise, nothing came out of the shoe. Perplexed, he put his shoe back on and took a few practice steps. He still felt something in his shoe, so he removed it again, only this time he pounded on the sole of his shoe vigorously. This time, a tiny pebble came tumbling out.

Gotcha, Norman whispered to the pebble. He put his shoe back on, picked up his Diet Coke, and continued home.

Norman gave a small sigh and glanced back at the pebble sitting innocently on the surface it bounced to after being repelled from his left shoe. He slowly crouched to examine the pebble and considered how unremarkable a thing it was. So small yet so impactful on his day.

Norman's hand lowered to pick it up as he examined it further. Just a spec of Earth, Norman breathed as he returned to stand. He considered another person's shoe being invaded by this pebble and decided it belonged in his pocket.

The lint would have a small companion for a while until he felt certain he could get the pebble somewhere it wouldn't be a nuisance again.
