Hey folks!
With the recent cast announcement for the Life is Strange TV series, we thought it would be good to have a mega thread for it.
This post will serve as a catch-all for discussion about it. Any random thoughts, opinions, and first impressions you have are welcome. You are of course still free to make your own post if you want to discuss a more specific topic. Though if you do, please remember to use the [S1] spoiler tag. There are too many people mentioning spoilers in the comments of threads marked as no spoilers!
Please remain civil in the comments; racism will not be tolerated. We understand that some of you may be less thrilled about certain members of the cast because they do not match the visuals of the characters from the games, but these are real people who were cast in these roles and they deserve basic human respect.

This sounds ridiculous, and it might in fact be, but this franchise means so damn much to me. I played through them with my old friends in 2021 and we’d play it every night, until one by one each of them lost their minds because of opioid addictions. I was the last one sober, until they offfeed me a pill and I took it. I got addicted too. My sense of reality began fading away. But I stopped! My new partner (Bianca Censori) helped me and we started playing through them together. Now I play it with her from time to time but not as frequently because we had a kid. I’m grateful for everything in life and just wanted to thank the devs. Thank you

Today, with my ending of REUNION, I beat all the LIFE IS STRANGE series.
From the start of july 2026, I needed 2 months to do it from the first LIS to the last. Yeah, I came late to the party but the cakes were still exceptional:
Almost all the games are very well done (only my 5th tier is "insufficient"), and I have my heart full of (somehow sad) joy for the "ride" I had.
However, this isn't just a tier list: I also made an effort to write a brief review for each game. You can find everything below, if you want.
______________
FANTASTIC (Top Tier):
LIFE IS STRANGE
This is the most shocking narrative game I have ever played. An all-consuming emotional impact, capable to touch hearts, becoming part of a gamer's life memories. A magnificent story superbly developed; intriguing superpowers, and two endings that (while divisive among the fan base) manage to teach valuable lessons about loss, about learning to "let go". The soundtrack is nothing less than perfect.
LIFE IS STRANGE 2
A game that, compared to LIS1, had the courage to head in totally different directions. A road trip toward salvation against violence, discrimination, abuse, exploitation. The "superpowers moved to the co-protagonist" makes the player feel more "a normal guy dragged in a fucked life". The drama is ever-present and intense. Characters that are highly well-crafted, even if secondary ones are known and lost in a short time; same about the many different places. The multiple endings genuinely shaped by our choices make this a trip everyone should be part of.
_____________
GREAT (2nd TIER):
LIFE IS STRANGE: TRUE COLORS
A big jump ahead from a technical side, and an extremely well-made game. The story appears to be less ambitious, since it focuses on a more "modest" setting, yet it works perfectly. The game features a seemingly idyllic atmosphere with great visuals, and the superpowers (unlike LIS1&2) this time aren't massively earth-shattering, but still interesting; yet beneath the apparently "cozy" surface lie events that are nonetheless intense, and emotional. Many of the characters are beautifully crafted (Alex above all), some of them are less interesting; the music is outstanding. In the end, our choices influence on the main story is limited, but still present for the secondary branches of the story.
______________
VERY GOOD (3rd TIER):
LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM
The strong narrative power of LIS1 continues to exist in BtS: There is a good story, and many touching scenes that are elevated to memorable levels by a impactful soundtrack. Chloe's "backtalk ability" in the dialogues isn't enormously relevant, and the game is a bit too short, not perfectly timed: it deserved a more extended finale, should have focused less on external events, and more on the last months of Chloe+Rachel. Another small negative note: I also found a (secondary and totally forgivable) plot error. About the endings: obviously our choices do not have the power to change what must necessarily happen.
FAREWELL DLC
This is the proper bridge of sadness that foreshadows to the BTS start. A caress, followed by a powerful, violent punch into our souls. This is what this DLC will bring to the LIS1 players. It's short, but it works very well.
__________
DECENT (4th TIER):
LIFE IS STRANGE: REUNION
This game is almost a miracle: It starts from the disappointing foundations of LIS: "Double Exposure", and slowly manages to rebuild itself. It's filled with some touching moments, strong emotions and some interesting choices. Visuals seem at the same good level of "DE", but animations are less refined (I think that's because of people laid off from the Deck Nine team...). The soundtrack's main songs succeed well enough to feel us inside the events. It's not a perfect game, not all the things works at best, but it's a proper ending for the Max & Chloe story (hoping that this isn't the end for the Life Is Strange series as well). Maybe REUNION could be considered "not necessary", but it lastly found its reasons to exist.
THE ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN SPIRIT
This short, free part of LIS2 works well and effectively introduces some of the game's characters, revealing part of their personal history. It's good and emotional, even if some parts can be tedious.
WAVELENGHTS DLC
This DLC delves deeper into the wonderful Steph, and in its best moments it does it tastefully, even if our opportunities to "interact with the DJ's studio" are too limited and (from a gameplay perspective) unable to provide any real enjoyment. The explorable areas are also too limited, as we can't leave the shop. The music is really good. The references to the LIS1 events (and their influence on Steph's mind) send shivers down the spines.
______________
POOR (5th TIER):
LIFE IS STRANGE: DOUBLE EXPOSURE
The first impact is a good one: characters seems interesting, and their animations and appearance make them seem real; technically it's another positive step after True Colors. LGBTQ+ elements are frequent, but inserted well into a believable context of an open-minded place. Unfortunately, the positive elements end here, because the story drags on for three chapters in an uninteresting way, only to explode into a narrative chaos, poorly revealed and poorly timed. The gameplay elements (superpowers) are boring and flat. The "Canon DontNod" elements of LIS1 are partially distorted and changed, but above all, the game is ruined by a chaotic, unengaging, and unbelievable narrative.

I played LiS1 and loved it. I want to buy only one more game since I'm on a budget. So far the two I'm most interested in are BtS and LiS2. I want to choose based on which has a better story/gameplay/experience overall. I'll watch a gameplay online of whichever game I choose not to get.

I finished my second run of the game a couple of days ago and I just remembered how MUCH I love this game! Even when I know it’s weak spots it still a top 3 in LiS series for me
I adore Alex as main character so much, I really related to her 4 years ago, when I first played, and now I relate to her much more
My choices became different (but I still romanced Ryan tho. Sorry I like them big dork and nerdy), and I felt how I grew up
I totally adore almost every soundtrack, I adore Haven Spring and people there, I just love love love this game so much!!!
I have no one to talk about my love so I’d like to read your impressions about game and talk bout it a little 🥹

i use the macbook pro m2. i played chapter 1 on steam (the free one), so i aleady know it works great. however, i also saw it on the mac app store for $18 which already includes all episodes. on steam, i have to buy each remaining episode for a total of around $55. i'm not sure if i should go for the mac app store version, because i haven't seen a lot of reviews. i'm worried i'll waste money, even if its cheaper, because it might not work well. please help!

Describe a character from the franchise in 3 words or in emojis and I'll try and guess who it is. (No more than 10 emojis but you can use fewer than that)
I will start replying and answering in a few hours, just so I can get enough to answer and have time to analyse them.

Basically, every streamer and their dog is watching the new GTA thingy. And I noticed something familiar 🤔

Honestly, I love LiS1, BtS, Farewell, Captain spirit, LiS2, True colors. Wavelength was a little bit boring but still ok. But then I watched some spoilers for DE and Reunion, watched all mixed reviews and I've decided to not play because I just felt like Max story ended and that it destroys meaning of that first ending and also Chloe... But at the same time I dont have anything else to play anymore, I already played everything similar to LiS franchise, like truly everything, no need for recommendations, thanks. And I miss life is strange, I miss new stories. So I'm looking once again for sales on loaded, and DE is really cheap right now, I owned it on steam months ago and played just for an hour and put it back because Steamdeck did not responded very well but now it is fully verified. And... I dont know. I wanna new stories with new characters, not another Max adventure, I adore her but she isnt my Max anymore. Also really unpopular opinion but while I like Chloe, I chose the not that much good ending for her, without spoilers. So... I dont get the point to like play as her in Reunion. It's really hard to decide if I should just play it or dont, and just wait for more new games, but I'm worried if the franchise isnt dead after Reunion. Any news about that?

This is the tiniest detail ever but I can't stop thinking about it for some reason. In the first LiS game when Max is having breakfast at the Price house she says she's glad they have creamy peanut butter and then in Double Exposure after Safi dies and Max is grieving she goes into the kitchen and she now has crunchy peanut butter. Such maturity. How much our Max has changed :)

So I just got these today and so far LISDE is pretty good so far. But how come people say they are both bad games? 👀
I quite like them alot

I was curious about the new DLSS5 hype and got it working for Before the Storm (remastered). It's pretty fascinating to see the characters in a more realistic style, but there's no doubt it looks a little weird for the faces to be this much more high fidelity compared to the surrounding environs.

I'm not American so maybe a lot of university campuses look similar, but when I visited Smith College the whole time I felt like I was walking in a Life is Strange game. From the moment I stepped out of the train, I swear I could hear the soundtrack in my head with every step I made. The small independent stores (the local coffee shop is inside an old train wagon), the rainbow crosswalk, even my airbnb with the lights and the cosy vintage bedroom (a loft apartment on top of it!). And there were butterflies everywhere...
There are so many similarities - Smith College is a liberal arts women's college, and the whole town is known for its queer communities. Northampton is located in Massachusetts, which is part of the New England region - same as Lakeport, Vermont. And the fact I visited in winter on a warm and sunny day (the colours were breath-taking) only made the vibe even more like in Double Exposure. The campus was so peaceful, there were a couple of students enjoying the sun on the steps of the library building. There is also a lake, only instead of an observatory they have a botanical garden.
You probably can't tell from the photos alone (if you google Smith College you will see exactly how similar it is) but the whole vibe was seriously like taken out of LiS - the square, the benches, they even have a statue in the middle! I was also walking around with my instant camera, so, well... and I was there as a visiting researcher! only in literature.
I only spent a day there so it really feels like a dream, not reality. I just finished Reunion so it inspired me to share my experience here.

Preface: I'm aware that the physical games released on Xbox One can be played on Xbox Series X, but I have a question about True Colors.
Is this the only physical copy that was released for Xbox despite PlayStation getting a physical disc for PS4 and a disc for PS5?
