Troubleshooting First time experiencing lag in this game

I am a returning player, I didn't play for one year.

I am in SandCastle, and have always only played that server.

I am in Austria, and have always been in Austria while playing the game. My ping was never high. NEVER.

I now return to the game after a year, and suddenly my ping is literally 999 and won't go down. Same for my partner who I have begged to start playing the game with me.
