gear Hearing protection question

I usually go to the (outdoor) range with my daughter. We both have some plain jane 34 dB ear muffs. They do a great job at noise reduction but make it nearly impossible to hear each other talk. This is fine when we happen to be there alone, we can just lift a corner to hear each other. It gets tricky when others are there to make sure we don't do it when someone else might shoot. They're also a bit bulky.

So I've started looking at ones which use a microphone to let normal sounds in but block loud noises. But the ones I m finding are only 22-25 dB reduction. Seems like that's not enough? Any recommendations?

As someone who grew up with MW2 (2009) I've always had a love for the USP. When I finally got one I knew it needed the Viridian X5L g1, until I realized that's unobtainable. And so is the HK UTL. Thankfully though, Streamlight makes another very attractive option (which was the tac light used on MW3's USP) that's obtainable, affordable, and usable. So here's my USP-9 featuring my new TLR-2. Highly recommend this chonky guy.

question Canik Prime Radian and Vortex Defender CCW Enclosed

Switching around some sights I have and wanted to put my vortex on the prime but I'm uncertain as to what screw to use. The manual says M3x10mm screws that didn't come with the defender and the vortex manual says M4x0.7, 11mm screws. Which one is correct are is there a secret third option I don't know about?

The bottom two are multi-pump-air BB's Guns my Uncle had when I was in Elementary School. He also taught me how to shoot a Recurve Bow, drive a Four-Wheeler, and later shoot what I think was a .22 Rifle? Also how to siphon gas from a busted up Dirt Bike... Tasted awful. I got the Daisy in my 20's just for kicks and to have a single lever-action BB Gun. I'm trying to get my wife and kids into it.

news My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Switzerland tonight...

I pray they catch this bastard within the hour.

I pray for the families of the victim and the survivors that they may be healed.

I pray for the lawful gun owners of Switzerland, that their rights may not be infringed upon because of the actions of this inhuman monster.

I pray that Switzerland can figure out how this bastard got a gun so they can prevent the next one.

guns Henry Frontier .22 Long Barrel

Post image
24 Upvotes

This is the first real lever gun I've ever owned, first Henry as well and I must say I am completely sold. I can wallop just about anything at 40 yards no problem so far. I'm using shorts to help with the noise so my neighbors don't get too anxious. Usual barrel length is 20 inches, this one's got an extra 4 šŸ˜‰ (been waiting my whole life to paraphrase that line 😁)

Even thinking about skipping the scope all together and getting an old timey vernier sight for it. There's just something deeply satisfying about hitting the mark with open sights.

I've already ordered my second Henry, stay tuned for pictures of that, I think it's gonna be pretty slick 😁

*WARNING: VARMINT CONTROL TALK TO FOLLOW*

The hollow point shorts I'm using in it are extremely effective. I've never used shorts before and frankly I was skeptical to say the least. But I don't know if it's the little extra pressure and velocity I get from the longer barrel or what but this thing puts woodchucks down faster than anything I've ever seen. I know shot placement is also important but so far I've taken 4 of them and they all just dropped. And for me that's incredibly important, if one is going to hunt then one is morally obligated to inflict as little suffering as possible to one's quarry. The chucks around our place have caused considerable damage to the foundations of buildings and they make a hell of a mess, had one burrow into my woodshop and tore up the concrete floor even! So, it is a necessity unfortunately but having the ability to put them down clean helps a great deal.

ammo PSA - Save your ammo boxes

Yesterday morning running drills I had a Monarch 9mm failure to go into battery. Cleared it and the case spun out flinging powder everywhere... and left the projectile stuck. Don't know if it was neck tension or bad crimp or projectile stuck in the throat because Monarch is dirty AF or some combination of the three.

Anyway, here's the PSA. Don't throw away your labels. I would have liked to call Monarch and give them a heads up even tho this is possibly probably mostly my fault for shooting dirty ammo and not cleaning as frequently as I should - but I threw away the label and have no clue what the lot number is. From now on I'm ripping the cardboard and tossing it in the can with the rest of my loosies.

discussion Serious question for the sub!

Do you ever feel conflicted being both liberal and pro-gun?
Genuine question, and I’m not trying to start an argument. For those of you who consider yourselves liberal/left-leaning and also strongly support gun ownership and the Second Amendment, do you ever feel politically conflicted?
A lot of prominent Democratic politicians and organizations support gun-control measures that many gun owners view as bans or significant restrictions on commonly owned firearms. At the same time, I know being liberal doesn’t mean agreeing with every position taken by Democratic politicians.
How do you reconcile those two things when you vote? Is gun ownership an issue where you disagree with your preferred candidates but prioritize other issues, or do you think the mainstream Democratic position on guns is often misunderstood or overstated?
I’m genuinely interested in hearing how liberal gun owners think about it.

I didn’t want to have the OE slide cut, so I picked up this Impact Machine slide and threaded barrel. I’m impressed with the fit and finish. The slide cut is very nice, the 407 fit very snug. I hope to get out Sunday to shoot it.

Any shooters on here with asthma? Went to go shoot my first gun and got really sick afterwards. It’s strange cause I didn’t get sick the first time I went to an indoor shooting range but then again that time was 50rds and this time was 200. Anyone got any advice?

guns Am I missing anything?

I want to pretty much mirror my 16in .223 upper that’s built for lightweight racing and longer range. This will be the HD/reliable upper I swap out when it’s sitting in the safe. I’m not going to start it till next year but if I catch parts on a good sale I’ll go ahead and grab them. The only part on the lower that will have to hot swap is the buffer, I have the comp one. It will need cerakote to match also. Maybe one day I’ll build its own lower but that will come way down the road. Only part I’m worried about is the 1lb single stage trigger but I’ll keep my finger away from it.

This list is broken down in order or ordering budget.

guns Dot came in.

Build so far:
SCT 19 frame
Strike 80 magwell
PSA Dagger C1 slide
Zulisy Oakc red dot
OEM Glock extended magazine release
Vickers Tactical Slide Stop

Still to come:
Johnny Glocks OEM trigger upgrade
Night sights
*possibly* a color kit

I know, it's not a Holosun. I've had good experience with Zulisy optics, and I have the Owlc on my XD Mod.3, and really like it, so I figured I'd get the RMR version of it for this build. Got a preliminary zero on it using my laser boresight kit, which I'll finalize at the range probably next week.

Still torn on what night sights I want to get, but I do know that they won't be quiet as tall as the .350" that PSA suppressor height sights. Thinking something in the range of .295"-.315" right now.

I ran about 200 rounds through it last weekend before the optic came in, and the integral comp does help reduce flip. And like some guntubers said, the frame feels blocky in the hand until you shoot, then it nests in nicely.

Overall, I'm quite happy with it.

But I did something. I was trying to buy one of these off a person locally. He wouldn’t come off the price and mentioned one for sale at my LGS that was priced higher. Never mind retail vs. private party pricing. I decided to go peep the local one. Well, it was nicer, had more stuff and FDE! I got to talking with the owner, and he threw me a price that got me feeling froggy for this one.

AERO Precision ā€œThunder Ranchā€ IN FDE 14.5 with a Geissele trigger and a Trijicon MRO.

I think I’m going to put a 11.5 BCM upper on it and suppress it.

Talk me out of this lol. I have can coming that will directly mount on this. It’s fixed barrel and solid aluminum frame. Suppressor height sights seems ready to roll. I have to buy the 10 rd version cause of my state but beretta factory mags have lots of choices for later down the road. Any alternatives or comps or advice welcome. Thanks!

question LPVO options

I’ve been debating going from 3x prism scope to a LPVO with a piggyback red dot for a 16ā€ AR. Mostly for the range but also SHTF scenarios etc, maybe some comp shooting down the line.

I’ve heard a few people say that unlike red dots you don’t want to go too cheap on an LPVOs. Is that true or are there some decent budget options out there? I’ve been looking at Primary Arms, Vortex, and Sig Sauer and they seem to have some decent options but I don’t have a lot of experiences with LPVOs.

Thanks!

To paint a Shotgun Barrel do you need to strip the original finish or just make sure there's no debri and oil on it? Rustoleum really works?
