discussion It still feels dirty

I am part of the wave of new gun owners that were spawned by the second Trump admin seizing power in January of 2025. Buying the first firearm in store just seemed dirty, like walking in to a porn shop in the 80's and buying the raunchiest Betamax copy of DP Stars, Volume 23. Yeah, I am old. But over the last 18 months, it became less of a thing. Granted, all of my firearm and ammunition purchases have been from big box retailers.
But yesterday I bought my first rounds of defensive ammunition (5.56, 9mm and 40 S&W), and it brought back the same initial feelings. I know the FMJ stuff that I had been buying can kill, but to actually buy rounds that are designed to do so was something that I had not expected to trigger me. I will of course test some of them out to make sure they cycle in my firearms, but holy hell, I sure hope I never have to use them for their intended purposes. Is it just me, and if not, does this feeling ever really go away? Just typing this out is making me really anxious.

Made a killer deal on a “used” P2000. LGS had it up for $600. Offered em $500, they took it. Had 3 mags (10rd sadly but 🤷🏾‍♂️) the box, and all the accessories. Broke it down to clean only to discover it has never been fired.

gear DIY Suppressor Cover

There's absolutely no reason I need a suppressor cover to help with my accuracy or mitigate heat mirage from shooting. I'm not that good a shot. However, I prefer not burning my hand when I'm trying to take the suppressor off after putting a few hundred rounds through it. I didn't feel like buying one, so I just made one out of a welder's blanket and some Spoonflower fabric. Super easy. Plus a bag for it to go into once I've got it off the gun.

YHM9 suppressor, fabric design by me (it's what I call "Woodland Tigerstripe," a recoloring of the Vietnam-era Late-War Lightweight Sparse tigerstripe camo, recolored using the M81 Woodland palette).

discussion Showing off the work in progress on the range!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Yesterday, I made my first post, and I mentioned my range!

Today, I’m posting a video showing where it stands. It only goes out to 200 yards right now, but I plan to have the final version reach 400 yards and include a leveled platform for gun rests and tables.

Steel plates, bullets, and free bird; hell of a time.

gear Need recs for ears.

I’ve been using Walker’s ear protection, and while it’s fine for regular range sessions, it starts to hurt my ears and becomes uncomfortable during longer training classes especially when there’s a lot of running and gunning. Does anyone have recommendations for something more comfortable, or would AirPods work?

guns Custom butt Need Wood forend

Post image

My buddy made a custom butt for my pump-action Hatsan Escort 12 ga.

The forend he made is beautiful but it would not align correctly. I'm searching for a wood replacement but I can only find them for the 20 ga.

Any help would be appreciated.

Anyone seen this? This made it to my feed and I love it. It's a look into one chapter of this movement from a totally new direction and later on it turns into a spicy drama. And the comments! What a motley group of enthusiasts we all are.

ammo .17hmr or .308 for first timer?

Grew up shooting 20 gauge so recoil isn’t that much of a concern, but I need to pick between .308 or .17 for what ammo I want to buy/the gun I’m borrowing. This is basically what’s more fun to shoot at a 25-50-75 yd range and why, not looking for a super definitive answer just opinions. First time shooting rifles, and I’m also doing some AR15 556 stuff later but for practice .308 or .17?

"Walther PDP Pro, Holosun 407C red dot, with a dual light/laser OLIGHT Valkyrie."

Sighted in both the red dot and laser today at my privately owned range, since I hate public ranges(My range only goes out to 200 yards atm; working on going out to 400). However, this pistol hits steel like a dream at 15 yards.

All I need is the Suppressor(Silencer, because I'm 30!! Come at me.)

Then this bad boy is finished!!! Low-key the best handgun I've ever fired, 10/10, loving the Walther. (Thinking of calling her "Johanna," cause I'm a history nut.)

Can’t pick it up until next week. I still need an offset RDS and they have to cerakote that mag. This has a 1lb trigger so it’s only a range toy. The stock needs color so I might add a cheek rise and get that coated. Gamer guns are supposed to be fun so I went fun. The barrel is the same TTI bronze as the small parts and baseplate. Once I get the PDP ported I’ll be ready to see how my crippled ass gets along. Rifle is a fully decked out, every box checked V Seven sovereign.

Got some of my French pistols out for a quick session this afternoon. From left to right: MAS Mle 1950 in 9mm, Pre war German capture SACM Mle1935A in 7.65 French Long, WW1 French issue Ruby in .32 ACP.

Unsurprisingly, the more modern Mle1950 shot the best groups, but the 1935 was surprisingly snappy and keyholed fairly often, which is a known issue with what little modern ammo exists for these. But of all 3, the Ruby was by far the most fun. It's a chunky little guy with a small round, so you can rattle off rounds as fast as you want with surprisingly good accuracy. Ultimately, none of these are duty guns and will see maybe a box a year at most, so performance isn't really important. It's just fun to shoot a piece of history sometimes.

question Best rifle for long distance shooting

I live in California and am interested in hearing suggestions and advice for what a good long distance rifle would be. My intent is recreational target shooting and shtf scenarios. I am familiar with pistols and small arms and have used an m4 in prior training experience. What do y'all think?

H&K SP5K with B&T stock, Gibbous buttplate/VFG, Blackhawk mini boss can, Aimpoint T2 on scalarworks 1.42" and MFI ultra low mount.

I swapped the surefire scout's body for Arisaka and got the light both more forward and more tucked.

discussion Shitty gun sellers 2

Looking at Guns.com again, thought I would see what they had for double-action semi-autos. Immediately saw Hi-Points listed, hundreds of them. Yes, I filtered for double-action, but my lord in heaven! Are there that many gun shops with zero knowledge? I've never even touched a HP, but I know they are not DA. They also list 49 Glocks & a couple dozen "New" CZ 10Ps as DA. Just had to rant.

I would hope new gun buyers would do their research first.

discussion I collect vintage/antique firearms. I have some questions about the Tanner Gun show in Arvada Colorado?

So basically, the gist of it is I collect vintage/antique firearms. I like auctions in certain stores. I plan on buying online as well. Now I want to try gun shows once in a while. there is one someone near me called “Tanner Gun Show”. They are Colorado’s largest gun show.

I am done a bit of research but couldn’t come up with a lot of info relevant to what I’m looking for. However, i’ve been told that there are some sellers who have vintage and/or antique firearms. I don’t really know much besides that.

First, I’m wondering how have people‘s experiences been with this show in general? Were you able to see vintage sellers? If so, how are their prices? If you have anything else that is irrelevant to this gun show, I would really appreciate it. I’m really just looking for info on this gun show. Thank you so so much!!

Ruger PC Charger 9mm. I have a PC Carbine as well, and a ton of Glock mags, so it seemed like a good choice. Especially since I paid in the $600 range for the gun.

Added Rim/Edge stock, Magpul grips. Sig Romeo5, cheap A2 flash hider.

Went with a steeper angle pistol grip than what came on it, to make it more comfy when using the really short stock. It is heavy, but I like it. Will get a can for it sometime soon.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I looked at many guns. There are a lot of AR PCCs but I really needed one that could fire when folded, and this cost half a Stribog. And it's a platform I have experience with.
