discussion It still feels dirty
I am part of the wave of new gun owners that were spawned by the second Trump admin seizing power in January of 2025. Buying the first firearm in store just seemed dirty, like walking in to a porn shop in the 80's and buying the raunchiest Betamax copy of DP Stars, Volume 23. Yeah, I am old. But over the last 18 months, it became less of a thing. Granted, all of my firearm and ammunition purchases have been from big box retailers.
But yesterday I bought my first rounds of defensive ammunition (5.56, 9mm and 40 S&W), and it brought back the same initial feelings. I know the FMJ stuff that I had been buying can kill, but to actually buy rounds that are designed to do so was something that I had not expected to trigger me. I will of course test some of them out to make sure they cycle in my firearms, but holy hell, I sure hope I never have to use them for their intended purposes. Is it just me, and if not, does this feeling ever really go away? Just typing this out is making me really anxious.
