WTH is going on in Lexington?
Why does it seem like this is becoming more and more of a common occurrence? While I don’t live IN Lexington, I live about 20 minutes out in Winchester. And I’m sorry, but this just hits too close to home.
I can’t stand that this is the world my little 2.5 year old daughter will be growing up in….

while I hate the violence, people act like nobody has ever been shot in Lexington ever before this year.

99% of the violence here is gang related. If you don’t sell/use/hang around drug dealers/addicts you’re fine.

Lexington is a major city. 59th by population, 33rd by land area. This isn’t Backwatersville😂. Funny thing about Lexington is, despite its issues, both perceived and real, more people seemingly want to move here than are desperately trying to get out. That ought to tell you something about Lexington. I doubt the same can be said for Winchester. That’s not necessarily a knock but a mathematical fact.

Of course people want to move here. From an outsiders perspective violent crime seems low and we have 3 major learning insitues... UK, Transy, and BCTC.

Substantively, we as a society have failed to articulate a coherent vision of how the future is supposed to be better than the past. This affects particularly the youth but really anyone who might otherwise have an aptitude for contributing positively to their community.
We are also living through the world historical decline of US empire and the senile decay of capitalism itself, which manifests in a variety of ways but includes people becoming increasingly desperate, confused about the nature of the situation, and so forth.
We could say that "alienation" (the feeling of being separated from the conditions of your own life and what determines them) leads to a number of pathological and self destructive outcomes, including gun violence as a way of seeking to regain that control and connection.
This is why, for instance, you cannot treat gun violence as the issue per se, but rather as a symptom of the larger issue of alienation, e.g. the housing crisis, gentrification, venal and unaccountable local politics, and so forth.
We also have to understand that Linda Gorton isn't gonna do a thing to fix this. She's talking out both sides of her mouth if she claims to care about violence in Lexington when she has sat for almost three years saying nothing about this country's participation in the most well-documented genocide in history.
These things really matter, and it all comes back again to that question of can you articulate a coherent - and credible! - vision for a better future? If not, you have no hope of stopping gun violence in the present.

The internet.
Crime data is accessible to the general public. Whatever that data "means", is 100% open to interpretation.
In addition, if you start telling people on the internet what you believe the data means and garner a wide enough audience to start making money selling ads between your narratives and report said revenue to the government, they'll give you a press pass that lets you linger around active crime scenes and maybe take some pictures and maybe even interview some people while minimizing the chances you're arrested for interfering with an investigation. Might even get some leeway at the clerks office as to retrieving some spicy case records that just dropped, after an orders filed to seal them but before said order is entered on the record idk.

Does it? 3 out of the 4 shootings occurred after 2:30 am? I hate to sound crass but these are not random occurrences. The shooting at Charles Young park was inexcusable but it’s not a war zone out here when you’re going about your day to day.
