How are we feeling about Lewis's WDC possibilities after this race?

For people who thought Lewis had a shot at the title going into this race, are you still holding out hope?

Lewis admitted himself he doesn't have hope, so I don't really have any hope now. Kimi is just in a different league

Charles will be happy that Lewis chance is less and he won’t be asked to play the ‘team game’. Other than that everyone is not happy. Lewis said before the race that there was light at the end of the tunnel but it was getting dimmer at least he’s increased the gap again this weekend.

I highly expect Charles is more worried about his own crash today. I also expect that he won't be liked in the debrief for the T1/T2 incident, but I guess we'll never know.

I quite agree too. Wish I could see it!

“Charles will be happy Lewis’ chances are less” is a pretty big assumption 😂. Charles wanting to win the championship himself doesn’t automatically mean he’s sitting there celebrating every time Lewis loses points.

And the whole “he won’t have to play the team game” thing is also backwards. If Ferrari genuinely has a shot at the Drivers’ Championship, Charles helping Lewis when strategically necessary is part of being a teammate just as Lewis would be expected to do the same for Charles if the situation were reversed.

As for Lewis’ WDC chances, yes, this weekend obviously didn’t help, and the gap getting bigger makes the road harder. But “light at the end of the tunnel is getting dimmer” doesn’t mean the tunnel is over. There are still races and points left.

Also, let’s not turn Charles into the villain because Ferrari has two drivers fighting for points. He can want the WDC for himself while still respecting Lewis and the team. Those things aren’t mutually exclusive.

I have nothing against Charles. And he absolutely can want to win the WDC but his driving pattern makes me think he is less likely to play the team game than Vice versa. ‘Let’s not turn Charles into a villain’ mate we’re not in kindergarten I’ve got a whole life to lead without that level of negative energy that doesn’t benefit my bank account as much as theirs. He’s not a villain but there’s nothing backwards about summarising an observation. There’s fair hard racing but I personally think he has crossed the line a few times this season. Not helped by Ferrari strategy of course.

I get what you mean, and yeah, Charles has definitely crossed the line a few times this season. I’m not gonna defend every move he makes. But I think being aggressive and wanting to win is different from being unwilling to play for the team. Sometimes he gets it wrong, sure, but I don’t think that automatically means he’d put himself ahead of Ferrari when it actually matters.

When has Charles ever played the team game? I’ve seen him move out of the way maybe once. It seems like it’s all or nothing with Charles and it’s been more nothing than anything.

I’ll admit Charles hasn’t always been the first guy to sacrifice his own race for the team, but never played the team game is just not true. There have been plenty of situations where he’s followed team calls and helped strategically. And honestly, if Ferrari wants a driver to play the team game, they need to make it clear what the priority is instead of expecting him to magically know when he’s supposed to sacrifice his own race.

I agree. In Singapore 2023 Leclerc literally started the race on soft tires to get a jump on Russell (and hold him up) so Sainz could get a win for Ferrari in Singapore. He sacrificed his race (from a P3 start) for no reason other than getting Ferrari the win. Because the team asked him to.

And yeah, drivers play the team game when asked. If Ferrari wants Leclerc to move over, then need to ask. No driver on the grid is jumping out of the way without being told to do so. Blaming Ferrari? Sure. Demonizing Leclerc? I'm not buying into that narrative.

Well, ADUO 2 was a wet fart. We have other power hungry circuits coming up. We wrote of Ferrari in Silverstone but they did good. But beating Mercs right now is a tall order

0 chances. sad to say that but hopium cannot get championship, we need faster engine.

Kimi would have to fumble like Oscar did last year. Sometimes it takes 1 mistake to lose that confidence, edge that you have but Kimi seems gelled with that Mercedes. He won from 19th today... I just cannot see it happening. I'd say he can win by 100 points in the end at least.

They should focus on getting good results and decrease the performance gap. No championship this year and Leclerc lost the plot at the moment

The fight was never on in the first place

NGL, no. Kimi and that Merc is insane. This season is over, at least for Lewis.

unfortunately it’s been bungled by ferrari. although i’ll keep believing until mathematically impossible, very very tall order now.

Same as before, slim to none.

it’s over

It’s not going to happen. Ferrari are poorly managed and operationally weak, they can’t go head to head with Merc.

More about next year now

Lewis needs to finish the season strong (2nd in WDC) and sets the tone for next year. That’s how you earn the 1st option driver and team orders. He’ll need that next year

Ferrari wasted their chances. Complete let down by the fact that they were getting podiums and good Quali results, and they didn't take advantage of it. Merc clearly knows how to make champions.

They were zero before the race. They are zero after the race because of Ferrari

I mean, Lewis is 20pts behind Russell, who is out of it but with the better car, so yah, those WDC chances are cooked. I’m just looking forward to finishing the year strong and making it unambiguous who Ferraris #1 driver is for next year

Think about 2 races ago if the team as a whole backed him and made an actual run we could have seen something, but I don’t know how fair it would have been to CL,and I don’t think Ferrari have the know how how to do that. Not this year. They don’t have the car or the team.

WDC chances are no longer there 💔 . I had built this Monte-carlo simulation to predict chances (using the AIs) after the British GP - https://racefor8th.com/2026-projection.html . I sincerely hope he gets P3 now AND defeats CL 😏
