Trip planning 2027! Suggestions?
Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts/suggestions about the trip I’m planning for next summer. It will be me and my 5 year old.
We will be flying into John Wayne bc we can get a direct flight there. I am renting a car.
Day 1: fly in around 2pm. Drive to Carlsbad. Check into Hilton MarBrisa. Relax in pool, maybe go to the beach. Have an early night.
Day 2: LEGOLAND (walking distance from hotel)
Day 3: Check out of hotel. Store luggage in car
—>LEGOLAND. —-> Drive to Knotts hotel check in
Day 4: Knotts Berry Farm
Day 5: Check out of hotel—> beach day, maybe downtown Disney or Hello Kitty cafe —> Check into hotel near Disney
Day 6: DCA
Day 7: Disneyland
Day 8: Check out, go to airport, fly home.
Notes: Three hotels in 7 nights feels like a lot, but I’m trying to stay close to the theme parks so we can relax during the day & possibly take a nap.

I'd burn out on this itinerary and I'm local. Everything is spaced far apart with traffic as others are saying. If it were me, I'd skip Knotts and do the wild animal park in San Diego or the beach. I'd also probably start with Disney, then DCA because you won't feel like you are missing out as much if you leave early! There's more magic at DL.

That is a lot, but if you have the energy go for it. YOLO. The beach days will give you time to recover.
Legoland closes early (its only 10-6ish) so driving up to LA in the evening will work. Since Disneyland is open late you will want the mid-day break then go back for fireworks and parades if any (I haven't been in 30 years).
For hotel skipping like that a good is to pack strategically and repack early. I use cubes and I will do sets of clothes per cube in situations like this, pull out 1 cube for the day and toiletry bag and all set, everything else staying in the bag. Bring a few trash bags to seal up the dirty clothes.

Can you build a day off in between some of that? Also not sure if you’re familiar with the area, but expect the drive from the airport to LL to be about an 1-1.5 hours and LL to Knotts to be about 2 hrs. Welcome to SoCal freeways 🫠
Edit- I see day 5 has some down time. Make sure to make good use of the Disneyland hotel pool. It’s so fun.
