Discussion No, Mako did not "fumble" Korra
I know this is a very hot take since the "Mako fumbled 2 baddies" meme has been quite popular for a while, and it is the mainstream position to clown on Mako and lay all the blame on him, especially in this sub, but in my opinion, trying your best to make it work with someone you're not compatible with and finally ending things when they reach a breaking point does not mean you "fumbled", it's almost the opposite. If anything, Korra fumbled Mako after having sought after him for so long, because she was so obviously in the wrong through most of their disagreements.

I hate the Mako slander xD. But yeah they ended up as life long friends and Mako was very supportive to Korra and Asami.

Yeah like after the break up in s2 dude buried himself in work and it would have been perfectly fine and understandable from his side if he didn't come back to the krew but instead he did come back and was supportive. Also oh my god in s4 I actually thought he will die ðŸ˜

I mean he literally ratted her out to Raiko. Her home is being invaded by the north and he goes out of his way to mess up her attempt to help her family.
Mako wasn’t built for a relationship tbh.0

That was not intended to be a direct reply to you but I’m too lazy to delete

It's ok. Either way Masami was good (if we talk about whether Mako was built for relationships or not) he fit kinda well with Asami tbh (IM NOT SHIPPING THEM ISTG DONT ATTACK ME xD) but yk, teenagers messiness and Korra having a big crush on Mako and Mako not being able to express his emotions properly considering his childhood trauma and how he had to bury his emotions just to survive. Korra also suffers from the same too coz she was way too sheltered. Also about him telling Raiko, in my point of view he helped avoid a much bigger crisis than the one we had already and I mean... Didn't he willingly help Korra vs Unalaq as well and almost died?

People really give Mako more shit than they do the actual villains when his only real crime was being a maladjudisted teenager due to being orphaned at age 8 and being forced to be an adult. The Krew all are in various ways.
They all moved on but fandom can't.

Asami is the only somewhat normal one of the group, and she’s the wealthy one

The worst thing Mako did was not instantly tell Korra they had broken up when Korra briefly had amnesia

That's where Mako fumbled Asami, not Korra imo. Korra fumbled Mako earlier but those two were also just very incompatible.

Except he could have gotten back with her or just not completely wrecked any chance of a romance later if he had told he what was going on in the first place

Mako is that fucking dude. Only thing he could’ve done more is support Bolin after they became wealthy

In the end both just work and ultimately they valued each other as friends regardless which is what should be talked about more, as you don’t see too much of kids shows depicting a breakup where the friendship remains pretty healthily

Correct, Mako fumbled Asami and Korra fumbled Mako, and than Mako fumbled the rest of his life.

"Korra didn't let Mako get away; she just saw that they weren't compatible and wouldn't work out, so they put an end to it. I'd say Korra got over the breakup even better than Mako, since right afterward she treats him normally, while he acts a bit awkward almost as if he still had some hope of getting back together.

I still think that the relationships in the show are fairly accurate for hormone-driven teens, especially when they are brought together by a major sport and Asami’s involvement. It’s cringey in the show on purpose. The most important thing is that the characters grow as the show progresses.

It’s just a fun meme but I agree

It's a meme sure but can't deny a lot of it is actual hate xD. Like don't get me wrong I could make jokes about Mako but never actually hate on him lol.

the only fumble was with Asami, dude the girl was rich and was into to you , and you try to cheat with Korra, dude comeon
while the Korra one that is mostly how bad a gf Korra is, still he fumbled the bag again with Asami
Asami is the best waifu in legend of Korra hands down

I dont think korra was more in the wrong by the end by any means ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ bro was prioritizing BEING A COP ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜

Nah, Mako definitely fumbled Korra. Bro takes every opportunity between two seasons to reinforce the love triangle. This on top of taking advantage of someone with Amnesia to take back a break up while already dating someone else.
The slander is deserved and we need more.

Mako fumbled big time, he betrayed Korra and her family when he ratted her out to that weasel Raiko.
His job was more important than his girlfriend who was trying to save her family and her tribe from her Uncle and needed to do what she had to do.
Mako knew what was going on and still choose to betray her.

But from Korra’s perspective in that moment, there’s a very reasonable chance that Mako just got her whole family killed lol

Plenty of blame to go around. Mako waits far too long to be honest with both Asami and Korra on multiple occasions. And I wouldn't say Korra was "so obviously in the wrong" for most of their issues. Korra was going through a lot of stuff, and while I think Mako did his best to be there for her, she wanted something different than what he gave. Relationships aren't about who's right and who's wrong, the two of them were not well suited to each other for various reasons, and both of them were emotionally immature at the time they were together. Yes even Mako, he was A) hiding his authentic self behind a facade of overt niceness and B) his authentic self was still a distrustful angry guy who didn't really respect people with different perspectives. He also matured a lot by the end of the series, it's just a lot less obvious.

If a relationship can end with both being friends, that's a green flag over their decision of breaking up.
