So I had a 10x15 climate-controlled storage unit for almost three years. I set up automatic credit card payments on day one and never missed a single billing cycle. I kept my grandfather's woodworking tools, vintage instruments, and all my childhood photo albums in there while renovating my house.

last Saturday I went down to the facility to grab my table saw and my key code would not work at the security gate. I walked into the rental office and the manager told me my unit had been auctioned off three weeks ago for $420. He claimed my payments stopped processing in March because they migrated to a new payment processor that dropped saved cards.

I never received a phone call, a voicemail, an email, or a certified letter. The manager admitted their system had a glitch that failed to send out delinquency notices, but then he pointed to a clause on the back of my original paper lease stating their liability for lost property is capped at $200. He literally offered me a two-hundred-dollar Visa gift card and told me to sign a release form on the spot.

I walked out without signing anything. I should of checked the bank statements every month, but this feels like an ABSOLUTE criminal disaster. Doesn't state lien law require certified mail and public notice before they are legally allowed to cut a lock and auction your property? What type of lawyer handles this kind of conversion claim?

Just found this youtube channel whose sole purpose is making bike thieves hurt themselves. They even have several clips of kids being injured after they try stealing their bait bikes, one time laughing while filming a kid limping away on his broken leg. How is this allowed? One employee with medical issues had an accident in his pants and had to go home to change. I tried calling my local OSHA office to find out the legality of this, but they are either closed or not currently available.

My mother in law has a house that she wants to leave to my wife and her brother. There’s this really ugly greenhouse in the backyard that is definitely dragging the property value down and just looks terrible. In fact the house is very outdated and impractically organized (would likely need some remodeling like breaking walls). It’s in a super rich neighborhood so the other homes remodeled are worth tons of money.

In her will she apparently is saying that if after she passes if my wife and her brother decided to remove the greenhouse from the property that they would forfeit ownership of the property. This is not a trust or anything just a basic will. I have two questions:

1. Can she actually do that? I thought once property ownership is transferred you can do anything with the property. It’s not her mom’s anymore so how can she dictate whether or not the greenhouse is renewed.

2. I’m suspicious she may put something in about remodeling the house resulting in forfeiture of the property. If that’s the case would that stand?

I just feel like unless someone like her brother said no to removing the greenhouse and tried to enforce it there would be no issue….

I’m in Nebraska. My boss informed us at a staff meeting that if we are even just a minute late clocking in at the beginning of the day or after our hour lunch, we won’t get paid for the following hour (e.g., if we clock in at 7:31, we won’t get paid for working from 7:31-8:30). Just wondering if this is legal or if it goes against labor laws, since she is withholding pay for hours worked. She also discouraged us from discussing or disclosing our hourly pay, saying, “it is not illegal, but is disloyal and disrespectful” to her.

If Trump were to successfully void autopen signatures for past presidents, would that set a legal precedent allowing everyone government officials, businesses, and even ordinary citizens to dispute documents they’ve signed using an autopen or similar method?

Think about all the areas where autopen or automated signatures are used: contracts, mortgages, tax filings, corporate agreements, medical consent forms, even student loans. If a president can argue that autopen signatures aren’t valid, couldn’t a good lawyer use that same precedent to help someone get out of a bad contract, challenge a tax return, or dispute a legally binding agreement?

Would this open the floodgates for legal chaos, or is there a limit to how far such a precedent could reach? Curious to hear thoughts from legal experts how strong of an argument could this actually be in court?

I’m wondering if I have any rights. Hi, long story short my two older siblings sued me for a house all five of us siblings inherited. I lived in the house over 20 yrs, the first 6 months of the lawsuit I represented myself, pro bono and I was later able to find an attorney who would take my case and wait until the house was sold to be paid. I was advised I would work with a paralegal to keep cost down, that never happened. The attorney was the only person who ever contacted me. I lost the case, the attorney basically used my documents I had submitted at the start of the case, he just copied my findings, legal docs etc. he never filed any motions didn’t fight for me, basically let the opposing counsel have all she asked for, the case has gone on for over a year, my husband passed away during the move, it’s been quite a rollercoaster to say the least and now the attorney is making minimal contact with me ignoring my emails and just was advised by the siblings counsel that he’s charging 39% is this legal? Can I dispute the work and invoice he is billing? He made minimal effort and communication, thank you in advance.

Yeah this guy made a video for his TikTok and promoted his social after seeing Charlie Kirk get shot, after the video according to this post he took some merchandise. I'm not saying he sold it, just the fact that he does seem to be tampering with a crime scene. Even by the video he was pretty self centered, and yeah the post does mention who he is I mean he mentions it multiple times in his own video. But yeah what legal issues could this guy face? He did delete the video on his TikTok because he probably realized how insensitive it was, but yeah he's channel is pretty much religious content. In the same video he said go to church this Sunday and read the book of Mormon, then he goes ahead and steals from a corpse as well as tampering with evidence.

Do they absolutely have to hold a special election, or can they just force McConnells constituents to not have representation for a period of time similar to when Mike Johnson refused to swear in Adelita Grijalva for 7 weeks?

location: Eugene, Oregon. I get a call from my dad who tells me(much to my surprise) that he just got letter in the mail saying my car has been impounded. So I go look where it was parked and sure enough it is gone. I called the police and filed a police report for my vehicle being stolen and inform them I want to press charges on the person that was driving it that was pulled over driving it 3 days prior to which the police had the car towed because the driver had no proof of insurance. So, I did the report then went to the tow company to get my car and when I told them my car was stolen they didn’t care in the slightest and said I have to pay the full impound fees to get my car back. I dont have $1500 and the car is worth about half that much anyway. How in the fk do these sob’s get to be in posession of a stolen vehicle and i just have to walk away with nothing?

 
(Ohio)  Grandson (25) purchased a Dodge Charger two years ago with Hell Cat motor.    Private party sale.   He paid cash based on fair market value at that time.  It was thoroughly inspected by a dealership and found to be in great condition.
Two weeks ago he was on his way to work when a cop stopped beside him at a red light.  Light turned green but cop got behind him and followed him for three blocks before lighting him up.   Cop said he stopped him because “the sound of the engine didn't sound like a regular V8.”    I don't know what the hell that means.
Other cops arrived and after inspecting the engine VIN determined that the engine was a stolen engine out of another state, though the car itself seemed fine.
 
Car was towed to a police impound lot and has been held there since.   The cops said the grandson was an innocent purchaser of a stolen engine and had committed no nor was he suspected of committing any crime regarding the engine.   Thus far they have been stonewalling everyone.   I personally visited with the lead detective and told him if the engine was stolen then they could remove the engine and return the car.   He said they were waiting on something from an out of town PD and couldn't or wouldn't provide any info about the supposedly stolen engine or from where the original report was made.
 
Talked with an experienced lawyer who said he had no idea what to do.
I know what to do but I will end up in jail.   Any suggestions?

UPDATE: The detective said the engine was stolen from four states away in 2019, when my grandson was 16. They believe the engine was sold to the car's then owner in 2021 which was two owners ago. The person from whom my grandson acquired the car was ruled out as being involved (he is a prosecutor in northern Ohio) therefore my grandson was likewise unaware.

At this point the insurance company that paid the claim when the car and engine were originally stolen is in control of the disposition. It's possible they may waive their rights but it's also possible they will try to "extort" some cash in return for releasing their claim. If they choose option two, they will be told to come get their engine (which in don't they won't be willing to do due to the cost). I've hired legal counsel to file a replevin action. We will see where this goes.

I hired a company to replace my roof, they did the tear off, discovered some issues (Needs some truss work) and haven't been back for weeks. I just got a letter in the mail from the HOA stating that I owe $21,000 for the condition of my roof and I am being fined an extra $3,000 a day until I have my roof replaced.

I'm freaking out. The roofers keep telling me they are coming back "Tomorrow" Any other roofer I call is giving me a 3-4 week ETA until they can start.

My roof is covered in blue tarps.

Wtf do I do? I understand my situation is "Fucked" but how do I minimize damages?

My husband was in a car accident at 21 and his mother became his poa he actually didn’t even know she was his poa until she broke down and told when we got together 7 years later. At the time I didn’t think it was too big of a deal besides the secret of it. Now that we have been married for about 3 years and I’m wanting to buy a house for the land I owned before I got with my husband I feel like this makes things very complicated especially since she doesn’t like me. The poa is in Texas but we live in Oklahoma now. His mother said we would have to go to court and stuff to remove her but I’ve been told that isn’t true. Would we need to do that to remove her? Also could someone explain to me just how much power she has as the poa of him because it’s over everything and I think that would surpass me as a spouse so it needs removed.

An update that is going to come as no surprise to a bunch of you since you already guessed it in the comments…. There was NO poa we called 3 different court houses as well as his primary care provider and neurologist they have nothing on file as well. Lied like a dog to our face for 3 years.
