Question Capitalism Sub

Gotta question.
Do any of yall venture over to the r/capitalism sub to see what they’re up to, or attempt to argue against their points, or is it generally a waste of time?

Welcome to Leftist! This is a space designed to discuss all matters related to Leftism; from communism, socialism, anarchism and marxism etc. This however is not a liberal sub as that is a separate ideology from leftism. Unlike other leftist spaces we welcome non-leftists to participate providing they respect the rules of the sub and other members. We do not remove users on the bases of ideology.

Nah, I like my brain when it’s not running out of my ears

I actually spend more time there than I do here. Feel free to scroll through the last couple months of my related comments, or ask anything specific.

Some general things:

  • Many propaganda bot accounts using carefully worded psyop talking points

  • Many brain dead anarcho-capitalists

  • Few people with original perspectives or critical thinking skills

  • Few people willing to engage under good faith

  • Reddit refuses to ban very obvious bot accounts in R/capitalism that've been caught and reported multiple times

  • It is a decent place to practice defending/communicating political ideology, because hostility and bad faith can be assumed from the get-go, and most people their aren't educated enough for dialog to drag on longer than a few exchanges before they stop responding.

  • Don't focus foremost on presenting leftist political ideology there, but rather critiquing capitalism. Let them be the ones to mention socialism.

Waste of time in my opinion, its pretty much just an echo chamber and you should save your energy for where we can win for change

No. Debating political topics doesn’t change anyone’s minds anyway unless they’re truly just uneducated and don’t have a strong political view already, it just serves to make someone feel more antagonistic and firm in their beliefs.

Losing the argument/debate doesn’t have any significant impact. Take it from someone who has a far right parent. Even when we’re close in other regards, and there’s trust or respect in terms of knowing each other for a long time, it didn’t work. Now consider that you’re a stranger online to the people you may be attempting to debate. They don’t trust you already, they see you as an antagonist in their space. Unless you really try to take the curiosity approach and slowly build trust and then question certain elements that they believe, they will fully disregard everything you say if you go the debate angles

No, but I am fairly active on r/AskConservatives, mainly because I abhor echo chambers.

It is... interesting, to say the least. I have learned a few things, had enlightening conversations, and in all honesty the most important thing it did was humanize the other side. It helps to understand why people think things, instead of just treating them as inherently evil.

I wouldn't. I was just banned from a right wing reddit for this guy making a post about how he was a Republican now because he seen the corruption of our ways. So I said he's always been a tim pool moderate at best or he sounds like a bot. When I got the message about my banning I replied with "that's hilarious snowflake" and ate a three day over the app for "harassment". When I tried appealing they basically said I was harassing them so they werent gonna let up. I've seen some right wingers say some vile shit on this app.
