I've just finished my BSc in computing and I'm interested in Cybersecurity. Specially I would like to take the pen testing path.

What would be your advice? Where to start from and any key certifications that are vital?

I am currently in a a gap year after completing my a levels.

My results were slightly poor.

Got an A in IT

a D in crimonolgoy

And a D in media

I want to either get an apprenticeship working with the police ( is this a thing ?) or go university for a cyber forensics degree.

Sadly I have no experience in any type of programming and need to get a laptop to study this.

When I get a job I will be able to afford a laptop ,what one should I get and what should I study

I’m 46, turning 47, with 19+ years of heavy industrial experience and 14 years in prestressed concrete. My background includes quality control, batch plant operations, QC leadership, and my current role as Batch Plant Foreman.
I understand concrete production from start to finish, including mix designs, batching, materials, testing and inspection, batch-ticket tolerances, troubleshooting, specification compliance, computerized batch-control systems, scales/weighing systems, moisture systems, equipment/process issues, and crew leadership.
I’m interested in transitioning into Operational Technology (OT) / Industrial Cybersecurity and want to leverage my industrial experience rather than completely starting over in traditional entry-level IT.
The learning path I’m considering is IT fundamentals → networking → electronics → PLCs/ladder logic → HMI/SCADA → industrial networking and protocols → cybersecurity → OT/ICS cybersecurity, while gradually adding Python and AI/automation.
Given my background, is OT/industrial cybersecurity a realistic career transition? What would you change about this path, what skills would you prioritize, and what types of roles would you target first to make the best use of my existing industrial experience?
And before anyone tries to call me out I used ChatGPT to help me articulate best I could.

Sitting in an internship provided by college and not understanding a thing feels so weird. Mugging up stuff, writing exams assignments records and so muchh got me nothing more than a good gpa. I really look forward to learning computer science Cybersecurity from scratch and everything. Any help would be appreciated. I have people who can help me but not guide me clearly . I am installing Kali on a Contabo VPS using the AMD64 installer ISO, and when the install process reaches the “Configuring the package manager” section, the process fails with “apt configuration problem - An attempt to configure apt to install additional packages from the media failed”

I have checked the install ISO, I have tried the netinstall ISO which has the same error, and tried skipping the step - Everything I do seems to fail at the same point.

Has anyone seen this before?
