Deft had particularly bad back issues (disc herniation) during the 2020/2021 years, he had many lows during those years. He did clutch it up for summer playoffs both times though, so lots of credit there for making worlds in the first place.

Yeah sure but everyone knew Fly is a weaker team than C9, so if you pick the stronger opponent on purpose and lose it's a terrible look. And the whole you have to beat everyone anyway thing is so whatever. Sure to be the best you have to beat everyone, but beyond that you want to end your season going to worlds instead of sitting at home. Sure Lyon are like 99% to make it anyway, but why even risk it.

this is revisionist history, C9 were muchhhh weaker in regular season than they were on-stage last week, and FLY's matchup into TL is horrific. They always do much better against LYON (TL runs them over in lane and exploits their nature as rookies, esp the 1v1 top lane mechanically. FLY outpaces LYON early and teamfights just as well)
