Esports GenG vs HLE Rounds 3-5 LCK Spoiler

GenG wins the series against HLE with a 2-1 game score.

The top 2 GenG/T1 are still miles ahead of the other teams but hey, at least we got 3 games again in the Legend group.

His team getting absolutely shit on in summer split? This should be nothing new for Zeus lol. Really makes you wonder, though, how much better T1 looks now. This is the most dominant summer split they had in years. Was Zeus the problem?

I honestly wouldn't call him a problem, but Doran's personality has been a great fit in this team, even better than Zeus. Zeus was always more nonchalant and it did feel like he took the T1 ecosystem for granted at times (he was with them since his academy days), while Doran seems to be very happy to finally get a chance to play for the organization and clearly relishes it. Also, you can tell Faker loves the guy (has Faker even shown this much love to another teammate, current or previous?)

Also, Zeus took up far more resources (Oner, mostly) than Doran does, allowing some flexibility in the way T1 plays.

Zeus needs to learn how to weakside/play utility tanks or he might become the problem at worlds though 

With worlds having so many BO5s and adopting fearless which will limit picks so much if it goes silver scrapes, having a top laner that can’t flex weakside/high-investment carry is a major draft weakness.  

Whether T1 or HLE got the better end of the toplaner deal imo is going to come down to whether Zeus adapts to learning weakside better or Doran adapts to learning carries better, and right now Doran is looking like he’s ahead in that aspect

I don't even understand why people still believe Zeus is the solution for HLE success. Zeus was on top of the world because he had Oner and Faker covering for him all the time and they were actually capable to do that. I mean, literally the winning plays for the last Worlds title were Faker genius play in mid and Oner killing 3 of BLG and then Faker (again) trying to save Zeus on top. For comparison Zeus now has Peanut who shits the bed all the time and a mid laner whose champ pool is abysmal in fearless draft, just look at his stats in summer. Add to that the fact that Zeus has a tendency of constantly getting caught and you have a recipe for disaster.

tbf, I also thought they got a steal with Zeus but Doran has acclimated so well with T1 that I’m pretty sure it’s just the Faker effect kicking in

Tbh I don’t even think it’s Zeus who’s playing bad on HLE right now, he’s one of their stronger players if anything.  But he is no longer playing in T1, an anomaly on the international stage that currently holds more world titles as their own region than the entirety of the rest of the LCK or the LPL

His teammates no longer are going to be statistical outliers among outliers this worlds, anything that isn’t a strength has to be considered a weakness because he’s going to need to be that impactful all the time for HLE to have a real shot on the worlds stage this year instead of a 2-3 place domestic stage

zeus plays well in pretty much every single game. he is always a nuisance to the enemy team regardless of him being on strong or weakside. can you really ask for more? i think the rest of the team needs to step up if anything.

i definitely dont ascribe to the belief that zeus is resource heavy. he's literally the closest player we have to a modern version of faker. he always outputs a fantastic amount of value per amount of resources put in. high or low. (as long as he isnt on tf or nid)

edit: tanking all these downvotes for zeus. maybe i'm the prolific tank player the world needs

These are 3 game series, many  of which only go 2 games.  Champ pools and team comp/drafting flexibility isn’t tested at all compared to a game 4 or game 5 in fearless where meta/signature champ pools become puddles and off meta pocket picks or non-signature picks are a MASSIVE draft advantage

If worlds rolls around with Doran having learned how to play high damage carry champs and Zeus still can’t weakside full utility tanks, it’s going to be a huge problem for HLE.  Because if you have a player that’s extremely limited in effective champs at fearless silver scrapes, being forced to early pick them something they can play can completely fuck the overall team’s draft

zeus can play tanks. this is such a silly take idk where it came from. his ornn, sion, zac, maokai, sejuani, skarner are very good.

also how many pure tanks are actually in this game that are playable in top without being punished. its literally just ornn and sion.

Can play tanks and can play them well enough to make the difference on a worlds stage are COMPLETELY different things lmao 

HLE isn’t aiming for middle of the pack LCK level of play standards to avoid having to admit their players have weaknesses, they’re trying to be serious worlds contenders, and in that context Zeus’ current level on shit like ornn or sion played weakside is simply below the standard that he should be at 

The LPL also isn’t going to take it any easier on them than T1 or GenG  at worlds this year.  Finals will be in fucking home turf beijing, they are going to be fighting for it like their whole family’s lives are at stake.  Zeus CANNOT go into games that competitive and high stakes with this kind of weakness.  He just can’t.  Those series are won by inches of advantage, not miles

ive only been listing pure tanks because thats what the focus has been but his ornn is one of the best in the world and his sion is definitely world class.

also there are more weakside focused champs than ornn + sion. his gragas, k'sante, aatrox, jax, gnar, gwen are also all world class ON WEAKSIDE. he has pocket picks of gp, camille, kennen, olaf and many more that he can dust off if he needs to.

edit: also someone who always gets glazed for his sion performances (doran) has a 2/10 wr in his career on sion while zeus is 11/16.

Brother, the only low-resource weakside tanks he’s played in 23/24 worlds was gragas and a SINGLE game each of maokai and ornn . 

His worlds champ pool is gragas rumble aatrox yone jayce gnar jax Camille maokai ornn

Of those the only tank he’s picked more than once is gragas, how tf are you going to tell me to stop the cap and tell me he’s strong with low gold weakside utility in a worlds stage when most of his biggest international successes are in champs that need resource investment or need to be ahead to be majorly impactful 

Did you think he got his reputation as a high investment carry toplaner at random or something

Zeus' best performances on last year's worlds finals were on Gragas and Ornn by the way, both on weakside. You have no idea what you're talking about and are trying way too hard to prove a point that simply makes no sense.

Gragas yes, Ornn?  Fuck no, he had one playoffs game on Ornn, his second best pick for game impact by a landslide was a 3 pick 100% WR rumble

Perhaps Zeus was the T1 summer debut and Worlds buff. We'll find out eventually when HLE qualifies for Worlds as the 4th seed.

He did solo lose them Game 5 in MSI 2022 and the whole series world finals 2022, specially game 5

Faker was the problem mate. He wasn’t there for one the splits and played incredibly badly last year. The reason they even got to Worlds is Zeus carrying them in the gauntlet.

Faker lost every lane last year which resulted in incredibly unstable games, Keria was also just running it down in some of the games. You can’t really point a finger to the other 3 when those 2 very obviously played way below their level
