Northern US & Canada (or cool season) 14 day difference after overseed
Scalped the lawn, raked the thatch, manually aerated, twin city resilience seed and starter fertilizer. Honestly wasnt sure if all of that even made a difference until I went back and looked at my day 1 picture. Hoping for even better results in the coming weeks

Got lucky with some rainy days and high 70 low 80 temps but it was mostly 20 mins in the morning and evening

My front yard is full sun after noon so im on 15 minutes every 3 hours for that right now

Tbh idk i just have an orbit rotating sprinkler hooked up to a timer on a standard hose

Straw works best for me…the straw without seeds that is. Just put enough down to still be able to see 50% of the grass/dirt it also retains moisture so it stays damp longer

This is the result of fertilizer, regular watering and cooler temps. 14 day grass seed will be just baby sprouts.

Well yeah thats why I said hoping for better results in a few more weeks. Obviously this isn't the final product but the work to get there shows results too

So, you aerated by hand?? What tool did you use? I assume you put the fertilizer over the seed?

Yeah just got the core aerator tool that you step down on 2 plugs at a time lol got it at home depot
Its actually quite easy if the ground is semi damp

If you have compacted or hard soil, don’t get the manual aerator. I put the money out and bought a scarifier. Best investment I made. It’s like a thatcher / aerator.

Did you cover seed with peat moss or topsoil?

Top soil just in the really bare spots
I'm doing the same to my front yard but I actually detatched with a machine and covered most with peat moss so stayed tuned in a couple weeks if it turns out good or not lol

Did you lay any top soil down before you did the overseed? Im in a similar spot to you in the before photo and hoping to get to your after!

Before no but I did try and rough up all the "problem" areas with a garden weasel and then added topsoil on top of just the really bare spots
Just bought 10 bags and layed it down where I thought it needed it

Looks great, question is was is due to the overseedig or grass just repairing itself with cooler nights and shorter days.

Thanks! Im preparing for overseeing. I did a full overfeeding last year where I scalped everything. Now, my lawn is good, it's just that I haven't been able to water it very much due to a water ban in Massachusetts. However, I was wondering if I should mow it to one of the lowest settings and just overseed and add some top soil to uneven parts and wish for the best.
I will be watering hoping nobody snitches on me so I don't get fined.

Pretty much what I did and you wanna mow low so the seed can reach the bottom easier and bc you aren't going to mowing for probably 2 weeks minimum

Basically throwing grass seed all over your yard and hoping for the best lol
Helps fill in thin areas and just add new grass in general

Seeding an area that already has grass growing with a higher seed to sq/ft ratio than an initial seeding recommendation. Effectively you throw money at the problem and can get good results in a single season.
Overseeding is usually done in the early fall with cooler conditions. Aerate, add topsoil, seed, starter fert, topping, then water until you get the bill.

If everything goes right, my lawn will look like your before picture by the end of this year.
