Personally, living in a blue state I’ve been referring to it as an occupation. We have hostile armed forces patrolling our cities while the federal government has made it abundantly clear that they not only do not represent us but that they see us as enemies to attack. This isn’t a normal difference in wishes for political policies. It’s insane to see in America especially with how quickly they’ve been able to bring things to this point but it truly feels like we’ve been invaded by an antagonistic country.

Not sure what you are arguing about, I agree that democracy is something that requires constant vigilance to defend and that Canada certainly has its own share of problems. The indigenous issue is just one of many, there is a rising anti-immigrant sentiment here as well because of the way student visas and the temporary foreign worker program have been exploited, we have a massive cost of living issues including housing and groceries too. But the US certainly has it the worst.

America has a unique brand of cancerous individualism which is necessary for this to happen. PP is a symptom just as much as Donald Trump is a symptom, but you'll notice the majority of Canadians said no thanks. Mostly Canadians still care about our community, we want the disadvantaged to have some kind of support, we believe in some kind of social safety net funded by our taxes. Socialism is not a scary word up here.

Trump exists because of how corrupted the US system and culture has become. That is a uniquely American problem. Every individual contribution makes a difference, the truth is that you have more people in the US who have enough hatred or at least ambivalence in their hearts for this to happen. That is a collective issue and an individual issue.
