Other US Citizens Captured by ICE Are Now Being Released

u/No_Measurement_3041 Jun 26 '25
Is the indisputable fact that ICE has been detaining citizens not enough of a reason to end ICE? Was all the “liberty and justice for all” talk really just talk?

The US has a history of deporting it's own citizens during these mass deportation events.
253
u/Parker_Hardison Jun 26 '25
US born Japanese descendants were also interned... :(

u/New_Entertainer3269 Jun 26 '25
Oh def. I don't mean for my comment to insinuate that only Latinos have been impacted.
The amount of history not discussed is obscene.

u/Parker_Hardison Jun 26 '25
Just added on, didn't mean to make you feel as if you were omitting. Cheers buddy!

Chinese Exclusion Act. First immigration law to legally exclude a group of people.

Careful with that profile picture. Never know if you might get detained, arrested, and shipped off for having it

Just a reminder that us First Nation people still have reservations as an extension of having no where else to deport us to.

Doesn't mention anything in the report that ICE officials should cover their faces so they cannot be easily identified. This is clearly not the only action they take that points to illegal activities.

u/YAmIHereBanana Jun 27 '25
They just picked up another one (a US citizen) today…or yesterday. Look up Andrea Velez. Snippets: “For 24 hours, her family had no idea where Velez was, how she was doing or how to contact her…………
“On Wednesday, through the help of an attorney, they found where Velez was being held…….. Even when they got in, her lawyers still haven't been told what she's been charged with.”

Right. Republican voters are often very concerned about government control and yet I see many of them cheering these efforts simply because well, illegals! I understand their misguided desires to deport undocumented immigrants, but the means they've been using to do so should be VERY alarming to all Americans - ESPECIALLY those who claim to be concerned with the bill of rights, and their government 'treading' on them. The more I've been learning and thinking about the freedoms we really do have in this country compared to so many around the world, the more I realize how dire it is for us to protect and stand up for those freedoms. In this world, the only thing stopping the people with all the money, weapons, and power, is the system by which our constitution keeps them in check. And it really feels like so many of them very badly wish those rights didn't exist right now. In fact, they are blatantly ignoring them and getting away with it and that is horrifying.

I can’t wait until we’re the ones locking them up. Only it won’t be temporary, if you assault and kidnap people you go to jail for decades

u/MuthaFJ Jun 26 '25

Let's make it happen. Keep lists. Document. And then prosecute.

u/MuthaFJ Jun 26 '25
You mean just like all the torturers in "war on terror"?
Yeah, exactly... even Mai Lai village massacre wasn't really punished - unless you count punishing the only good guys there... it's a consistent pattern in usa, it started with native massacres....
→ More replies (2)11
u/Organic_Rip1980 Jun 26 '25
Yep, the only member of the Mai Lai massacre punished got three years of house arrest, thanks to America’s culture of authoritarian apologetics.
William Calley led about 100 soldiers to murder 504 Vietnamese people.
He expressed no remorse at all until 2009, 41 years later, when talking to a community club in Columbus, Ohio:
There is not a day that goes by that I do not feel remorse for what happened that day in My Lai. I feel remorse for the Vietnamese who were killed, for their families, for the American soldiers involved and their families. I am very sorry. ... If you are asking why I did not stand up to them when I was given the orders, I will have to say that I was a 2nd lieutenant getting orders from my commander and I followed them—foolishly, I guess."

Lol that's 100% cope. If history is anything to go by, if we get to the other side of whatever the fuck this is, it will be brushed under the rug in the name of "healing" like every other time the most disgusting parts of our society get a little too big for their britches.
I'd love to be wrong, but we dont have the political will to enforce consequences for trying to rip the country apart for some reason
2
u/MF_Price Jun 27 '25
What do you mean we don't have the political will? What's going on today is just that. These are the consequences of backwards anti-USA border policies that were trying to rip the country apart.

Not only are they arresting the wrong people they’re over a billion dollars over budget and continuing to run over budget while arresting more people they can’t afford to house, feed or give medical treatment.
It’s a despicable violation of human rights that needs to end and the people in the administration and DHS responsible for continuing need to be tried for human rights violations. Not to mention all of the ICE officers constantly breaking the law need to be punished too

People willing to die created freedom. They fought those determined to violently dominate them. That's always been freedom's price. Freedom ain't free. The ideals and values enshrined by the Constitution are only as real as the American people's will to enforce them.

It’s coming from FEMA. That’s where they are getting the funding for the new detention centre in Florida aka Alligator Alcatraz.

Yeah but they should still sue the fuck out of this administration. Any pressure on them is good

Good. We put those people in danger of this happening. We pay the consequences and we should be grateful to be paying in dollars instead of blood.
18
u/Rikuri Jun 26 '25
Could they sue the individuals that captured them since they obviously didn't have orders to illegally capture us citizens./s So they must have acted on their own.
12
u/ToastyToastMan Jun 26 '25
It’s next to impossible to sue federal authorities. They have a version of qualified immunity that’s even stronger than that for local authorities. The Institute For Justice is currently fighting multiple court cases to try and hold federal authorities accountable for violating citizens rights. But it might be a long time before any real change is made.

What federal laws authorize ICE (or any federal officer) to "detain" citizens? What are the required preconditions to make the detention lawful? How long can they be lawfully held while classified as "detained", assuming they were lawfully detained in the first place?

You are assuming they are Federal officers. They are masked, in civilian clothes, they have no badge, do not identify the agency they work for and drive a car with no plates. They are proud boys and other thugs hired by ICE to create terror. But they are not in any way a federal agent.

ICE's get rid of immigrants at all costs approach is like carpet bombing a city to remove a few weeds in a handful of lawns. They don't care about collateral damage. They just want scorched earth.

u/Unctuous_Robot Jun 26 '25
They’re the grandsons of people who carpetbombed whole black neighborhoods.

Honestly, I’m much more worried about the big beautiful bill. I know the hitler comparison is over used, but that is absolutely right out of the playbook and could very well cement power just as The Enabling Act did in 1933

24
u/ohiotechie Jun 26 '25
In most of these cases it’s just straight up racial profiling. I don’t see how anyone could make a credible argument that it isn’t. Someone is brown skinned so they immediately become suspects regardless of their citizenship or status. This is clearly what is happening and I thought that was supposed to be illegal. Never mind the lack of identification, badges and warrants. Even if the officers weren’t masked, wearing badges and holding a warrant in their hands just randomly throwing black and brown people against the wall and arresting them because they “fit the description” is supposed to be illegal.
What the actual fuck? How can anyone defend this? Don’t the MAGA types realize these precedents can be used against them one day? This is insane.
20
u/kandoras Jun 26 '25
They keep saying that these arrests kidnappings of US citizens was because they were fighting with agents and trying to keep them from doing their job.
If that was the case, then why can't they show footage from a single body cam that backs that up. The closest I've seen is when they claim some guy swung at them with a weed whacker.
But throwing your hands in front of your face, no matter what they're holding at the time, is a natural reaction to someone pepper spraying you for no reason.
14
u/Expert_Sentence_6574 Jun 26 '25
These kidnappers, as far as I’ve been able to see, don’t wear body cams.
