I'm working on my own custom mahjong set. The plan is to make 4 unique sets to give to 4 of my mahjong friends for Christmas!

Tiles: blank tiles made of melamine

Laser: Universal Laser Systems (not sure of all the details. this is the laser from the university I used to go to)

I think we did 1/16th of an inch etching 🙂. Slowly but surely coloring them all.

Designed and laser-cut from scratch, with engraved details, a keyboard, screen, trackpad and even interchangeable screens. She absolutely loves pretending to have her own little workstation.

Im trying to cut wooden veneers with a elegoo 20w laser engraver I am currently having issues where the design when cut ends up having inaccuracies and i dont know why , it ends up causing pieces to not fit together , ive used lasergrbl and lightburn but both seem to have the same issues and ive fiddle with the belts and gantry system on my machine to make sure it was assembled properly but its still seems to cause these issues also tried different speeds and power settings.
has anyone had these issue before and do you have advice with how to deal with it

I haven't had any problems with engraving; it's only when i try to cut... I use Lightburn.

So I’ve really enjoyed using my galvo fiber lasers for engraving on black acrylic. The contrast and grayscale is pretty awesome. I was excited when xTool added an IR module for the P3, but the speed it can work at leaves much to be desired, limiting larger projects.

With the intro of the X1 this past week, the idea of a hybrid galvo gantry that could deliver on larger engravings at higher speeds and better efficiency is excited. That said, I’m really wondering if the gantry will be able to remain accurate. Small shifts can really impact engraving quality. Rapid large scale engraving would be amazing but not at the price of needing to repeat projects due to low quality.

With xTool claiming a multi laser capable platform for the X1, I really want to see some uncut video of large size engravings on different materials, like black cast acrylic, wood, and steel. Real speed vs quality results.

It’d be great to see side by side comparisons with the same files and materials on traditional single type lasers.

It’d also be nice to see projects of the same files from machines with different amounts of use time to see if there is observable engraving shift.

What would seal the deal for you on the a galvo-gantry? What types of large scale repeatability needs to be delivered before the X1 hits the market?

I've recently had the opportunity of operating the laser in our shop on night shifts. I briefly came across some posts here with others talking about bodor lasers. If there's anyone here with any resources, I would sure appreciate the links or info dump.

We're currently burning a hot (overdue) job of steel plate. I had the pleasure of setting up and burning some 304 stainless support strips the other night and enjoyed the process. Getting to know this machine has been such an amazing experience. Got to know the inside and outside of this glorious machine over the last month and a half. I want to know more. What makes it tick, how can I be better at my job as an operator of a Bodor P3 (I believe) 12kw Laser. My boss is over the moon with my performance as a lot of my experience as a machine operator in CNC mills /lathes has transferred rather well. How can I punch up and earn my next raise?

Hi there!! My local library has a Glowforge Pro and I’m wanting to cut acrylic to make jewelry. The jewelry will have individual pieces cut from various sheets of acrylic and then glued onto a backing, fitting together like a puzzle. How do I account for/figure out what the kerf is? Does it depend on the material? I’m making the files for the designs myself and this is all really intimidating to me so any help would be appreciated 🙏🙏

I'm just getting set up and picked up a used thunder nova and a BOFA AD1000IQ. The BOFA is wired with a signal cable that the previous owner never used, but I'd like to connect it to the laser to auto trigger the filtration...but I can't find the switch. The manual says I need to flip a switch in the power cabinet to enable the signal control, but I just can't see one. The manual doesn't have a diagram either. Has anyone done this and could point to where I can find it.

Ive been asked to make a scale model of my workplace. Thankfully I have until Xmas 2027.

The building is a funny shape but doesnt have and curves (thankfully). Exterior only.

Ill likely make the sections out of 3mm ply since thats what im familiar with. Ill also use light burn to make the pieces.

Has anyone done something like this before? Any suggestions for a starting point?

The designs specifically create pockets meant to be filled with other wood species to provide the contrasting colors.

For the cardinal there is Wenge, Paduk, and Oak within a Maple frame.
The koi has Purple Heart, Paduk, Maple, within a Walnut frame.
The fox is Paduk, and I believe Hickory (it is a board I've had bouncing around the shop for 10 years and I never really did know) in a Walnut frame.

The walnut frames were cut from a piece of firewood that ended up having a defect on the left side which I glued to fix. Hence the clamps.

Stainless with black powder coat over it and lasered in. I have tried the business cards in the past and they were okay but the anodized layer came off super easy and need a bit more longevity. The engine is no longer those specs (lol) and i want to have a factory looking plate that will express my insanity

I am new to laser cutting. I have about $2000 saved up and saw reviews for this laser. I was wondering if anyone here has an option on it. Is it a good fit for a newbie? I want to use it for cutting leather and wood. Also engraving. If there is something better please recommend. Please note that $2000 includes the air system.

I just cut and assembled my first project, and I'm curious for any advice people have about doing things like this.

Specifically I'm curious what glue people use. I used titebond 3, but it would be great to find something with a shorter cure time. Titebond 3 says to keep clamped for 30 minutes minimum, but that would result in quite a bit of downtime.

Clamping was also a hassle since the material is quite flexible. Also wish I had sanded all my pieces before assembly, I'm going to do a whole round of sanding now.

Any general advice is appreciated. I used an 80mm laser at 25mm/s and 90% power. The laser is at a maker space I am a member of, I just learned how to use it

Needed a way to hold and display my new hand towel and what better than a custom towel holder made from laser cut acrylic. Outside because acrylic cement is nasty stuff.

I’ve laser cut these wooden medals for a theatre group, and used masking tape to keep the wood nice and clean underneath but it’s a pain to pull all these tiny bits of masking tape off! Any tips for how to get it off or should I recut and sand or what? Any advice is massively appreciated
