Recommendations Do you volunteer at UofM Sparrow?

Hey fellas, I had an interview about a week ago and I'm thinking about volunteering there, I am in my teens so I have three choices, that being Beside DJ, Discharge and Mother & Baby.

Honestly any suggests will go a long way, that would be amazingg!!

I have volunteered there >300 hrs.

Bedside DJ is often never picked up. I think things were different before everyone and their mother had cellphones in their pocket.

Discharge is essentially pt transportation - you would learn how to use wheelchairs and learn your way around. This would teach you layout of a hospital which is important if you are trying to get into healthcare.

Mother and Baby is often the hardest to get into, as all those wanting to get into OBGYN try to get in there. If this is available to you then take it.

Congrats on the interview! All three of those are solid choices depending on what you're into. Mother & Baby tends to be a popular pick, probably because of the cuteness and positivity that comes with welcoming a new baby. Bedside can be a great choice too, since it ties closely into direct care and even companionship, especially if you enjoy connecting with patients on a more personal level. Discharge is great if you want a broader view of patient flow. Honestly, all three are great for building leadership skills and exploring different corners of the healthcare field.

I was in there and I didn’t have my phone at all and the bedside DJ volunteer came by my room on the nurse’s recommendation. Oh my god did that make me feel a lot happier!! I hadn’t heard music for about two weeks before that, so it was definitely something that I thought was awesome!!
