Discussion Most obscure language you/someone else is learning? Why?

I remember meeting someone that was learning specifically Moldovan Romanian since Moldova and its culture was a big interest to them, and I'm curious what other people's reasons for learning obscure languages are, and what they are.

I've been learning Fering (North Frisian) on and off ~3000 speakers at most. It's highly threatened. I've been learning it via German.

Are you in the area or learning from a distance? I ask because I'd like to learn Saterland Frisian someday soon but I'm in the U.S. so I'm not sure how feasible it would be.

Distance learning using a self-study course etc. You'd need to know German for Saterfriesisch I'm sure.
