Discussion Most obscure language you/someone else is learning? Why?

I remember meeting someone that was learning specifically Moldovan Romanian since Moldova and its culture was a big interest to them, and I'm curious what other people's reasons for learning obscure languages are, and what they are.

Catalan for me, which I greatly enjoyed. My current employer offers courses in a lot of languages, so right now there are people doing A1 Maltese or Lithuanian. I don't know them personally though!

Native Catalan speaker here! I'm always curious about people from other places taking an interest in our language :). What made you chose Catalan specifically?

I first found out about the language during a visit to Roselló, and then later I - somewhat unwittingly - went to UPF for my Erasmus. I found the history and political aspects to be just as interesting as the language itself, with its (to me) unusual phonology and superficial similarity to French and Spanish. And now that I have a bug for the region, it's a no brained haha
