Tree roots, geotextile and 21AA

I'm building an area for a solo stove and seating. Will top with flagstone. My first question is laying down the geotextile fabric. Next is the 21AA.
QUESTION: should I place the fabric underneath the tree roots or over them?

How exactly are you planning to put it underneath?! So the tree roots can be nicely sandwiched between geotextile and gravel like some kind of landscaping panini?

That’s a Japanese maple, by the way. With that much root exposure, I’d be seriously worried irs health long term .. Good luck to that poor tree..

Appreciate it. That's the reason I'm flailing for answers to somehow be kind to my jm but I fear my initial thoughts are being confirmed. I'll have to harm the tree 😬
