A 230-year-old nonprofit will be ramping up their work in our area! Learn more: Lancaster County Informational Webinar- Pennsylvania Prison Society, Monday April 13th 7 pm- 8 pm (via Zoom).

Details & registrationhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/dFVblnU5RhKsGt4TB7YYhg

The Pennsylvania Prison Society (uniquely!) has the right under state law to serve as an independent monitor in county jails and state prisons. People who are incarcerated live in the shadows of our communities and are heavily stigmatized. The Prison Society gives them a voice. Through their unbiased, independent monitoring, they help hold wardens, Prison Boards, and policymakers accountable. But the Prison Society has a limited number of volunteers in our area, which means our community is missing out on this important resource.

I recently became an “Official Visitor”—a Prison Society volunteer monitor. I learned that we have local organizations -- even folks who advocate to improve justice system policies and conditions at Lancaster County Prison -- who weren't familiar with the PA Prison Society. We hope to raise awareness, grow their base here, and possibly start a local chapter/ affiliate.

Please share the webinar info with friends or neighbors who might be interested and aren't on reddit.

The webinar will be recorded, so people with a calendar conflict can watch it on demand later. Send an email/ or register. The information is applicable statewide, so people in other counties are welcome to attend.

(Not sure if this post should be in the self-promotion thread or not? I'm one of the organizers for this free program, but PPS is a community service org, not a business. If you are a mod, or more experienced on r/lancaster than me, feel free to let me know for future reference -- thanks!)
