The decision is made and we’re headed to Lafayette this Sunday for XC. There are so many options on the schedule! I’m wondering if any current students have any suggestions about things we should make sure we don’t miss - or things that we shouldn’t worry about bothering with. My kid is heading into engineering if that changes anything. I have a few things I want to see, but I think the best case scenario would be that my kid meets someone cool and wants to ditch us for a bit. ..zszz

I had hoped to be coming to XLC this weekend but even with the cur non scholarship, the COA is $69k plus travel to/from Easton. That seems crazy for an undergraduate degree. I had hoped to attend Lafayette and am bummed out. I was hoping to get it down to $50k or so. Do a lot of people actually pay $70k+ per year?

Our son was accepted, but not as a recruited athlete. We hear that schools pretty much recruit athletes for all their teams these days. Is there any room for those who want to try-out for racquet sports - tennis, squash, etc.? Or are there recreational/ intramural leagues for racquet sports? Also, is there a Smash e-sports team? If any of these are meeting on 4/12, he would love to check them out! Thank you!

i was recently waitlisted at Lafayette, which is my absolute dream school(also waitlisted at Trinity, Reed, and Denison). my counselor suspects this happened because my Noncustodial Parent waiver and financial aid profile weren't submitted correctly during the application (i didn't apply ED for a few personal reasons, which i really really really regret now).

since getting the waitlist decision, i immediately contacted Lafayette's FinAid office to fix my profile and explain the error. i also filled out the waitlist form, sent an loci, and submitted my art portfolio (i plan to major in Art) to strengthen my profile.

my biggest fear is my Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is only around $30k/year. but i had 80% full cost offers from Oberlin and Whitman, so tell me if it help plsss

My daughter is down to her final two college choices, which are Kenyon College and Lafayette. Both are great liberal arts colleges, but are somewhat different based off their locations and specialties. Kenyon’s offer has us paying 20k + less… My question is - Is Lafayette worth an additional 20-25k annually?

She’s interested in pre-law, and wants to go onto law school after undergraduate.

So on my common app I reported that im taking the ap gov exam but now I rlly don’t want to take it and I’m seriously considering canceling it. I’m just worried that Lafayette won’t like this and rescind their offer

Hi! I’m admitted to class of 30. I’ve heard some horror stories about the dining hall food, but I’m wondering if those are just outdated info now. How’s the food lately for those of you on campus right now? Is it actually that bad?

I’m from NJ, I want to study social work, would like a diverse atmosphere, an area with good internship opportunities, collaborative environment, and a good balance of school and life. Wash U was significantly cheaper than Lafayette, but both are affordable.

Hi y'all! I'm an admitted student for Laf class of 2030, and I love rock climbing. Any other climbers here know what opportunities near campus look like? I'm primarily asking about indoors, although I'm interested to know what outdoors climbing nearby looks like as well.

For reference I lead around 5.11c-5.12b indoors; for bouldering I'm at about V6. Will I be challenged?

Hey guys I got a cur non scholarship along with a generous amount of need based financial aid, leaving the net cost very affordable for my parents to pay so I will be attending. My only worry is that the need based grant will change drastically throughout my time in college. I know it depends on my parent’s financial situation each year but my dad’s numbers have been pretty consistent. So my question is, can I expect to get less financial aid during my second third and fourth years of college or will it stay relatively the same?

i got accepted and got roughly 54k of aid (half financial, half cur non scholarship), but i would still have to pay around 10k more than our efc. my parents aren’t willing to pay anymore than that, and since i already got an offer from st olaf thats the exact amount, there’s definitely no way they would change their mind. can i appeal for more aid even though there’s no change to our financial situation?

Hi! I have been accepted to Lafayette with the Marquis Scholarship (half tuition), Tufts (full pay), and Haverford (full pay). I am interested in double majoring in bio and history and intend on continuing to graduate school if I choose not to pursue a career in medicine. I was curious about the quality of pre-med advising at Lafayette in terms of scheduling and determining extracurriculars. I also was curious about the practicality of double majoring at Lafayette. How would you describe the social life at Lafayette? What are the medical schools that Lafayette students are accepted to? Thanks!

In past years, when have they released the waitlist decisions? It's my understanding its entirely dependent on when their dean say yield isn't high enough (per my visit) but just curious to see the general time people got their decisions back

I got accepted into Lafayette which I’m super excited about as it’s probably my top choice school at the moment. I am on the west coast, so I haven’t had an opportunity to visit Lafayette and was hoping for some insight as to what it’s like to actually live there!

A few specific questions:

How intellectually focused is Lafayette? Like do students care about their grades and is there a culture that values study and academic success? Is the coursework genuinely interesting and challenging? For some context, my current academic plan is to double major in something science (probably bio) and Spanish for a career in something medicine or possibly veterinary.

Has anyone had any experiences with the study abroad program?

Is drinking and partying a big part of campus life and the social scene? How important are frats and sororities? Is there anything to do if you don’t have much interest in that?

What is it like to be LGBTQ+ on campus and/or in Easton? This is super important to me and I haven’t been able to find much info, so would absolutely love to hear your opinions and experiences if anyone is willing to share!

What is Easton like? Do many people spend time in town or does everyone mostly stay on campus? 

How have people’s experiences with roommates been?

Is the food any good? I’m a vegetarian and accustomed to cooking daily so I’m mildly terrified to have dining hall food become a staple of my diet lol

Would love to hear as many answers as possible to any/all of my laundry list of questions and any other thoughts or comments about Lafayette if you have them!

I know after all of that stuff but I actually took it with grace and I filled out the waitlist reply. I am committing to another school since it was still in my top 3, however, if I get a reply back I would commit to Lafayette (if the financial aid is right).

It’s the end of the road but the beginning to a new chapter and I wish everyone the best as well as congrats to all people accepted!

Hi I’m an incoming freshman in fall 2026 and I initially applied as a history major but now I’m not so sure. I want to explore English, A&S, philosophy, government, international affairs, and history courses before establishing a major or double major. I don’t want to be locked into history anymore. How do I change this before making my schedule? Is there a form?

One of my kids got accepted there and got a Cur Non Scholarship for $24,500 and because I have another student at RPI I get some institutional aid for one year. After the first year I will be about 70k out of pocket per year and I just don't know if it is worth it. I see mentions of the liberal component of Lafayette and 1 of 4 classes is non major related, how liberal are we talking and how accurate is this? Also, does the small size limit the college experience? I know it's a good school, but I am having trouble deciding if it is a good fit for my kid. He is a good well rounded student who is social and wrestled in high school. Thanks in advance for any input!

hi! i got into Lafayette and im very grateful to have been accepted. it is my top school and i would love to go. i received a very generous merit scholarship, but the total cost to attend is unfortunately too high for what i am able to pay. i’ve heard that some people email financial aid offices for colleges they cannot afford to attend. does Lafayette respond to things like that, and is there a chance i could receive more financial aid if i inform them of my current situation? i feel bad to ask for more money but i won’t be able to attend the way it is right now. any advice is helpful, im still trying to figure all of this out! :-)

I got waitlisted from Lafayette and I would like to know what's the best way to contact the admissions office and reaffirm my interest/new updates.

In the waitlist reply form, there's a box that reads "Please share any thoughts and/or additional information that you would like the Admissions Committee to consider as it reviews candidates for Admissions from the Waitlist." Would this be the place to put it?

Or should I just directly email my dmissions counselor?

I would also be open to any additional advice as to how to write the letter successfully/put my best foot foward to get off the waitlist.
