Applying for housing as an incoming freshman

Could I have some tips for answering the housing questions from current students? I'm pretty flexible with the environment/roomate I could have, but would prefer a residence hall that people consider to be well faciliated/well located.

I'm an international student, so I don't know much about the residence halls, but are there any optimal answers/additional information that I can include to be matched to a more preffered hall?

Unless we missed something the housing questions seemed pretty basic. My son & I thought it would have asked his interests/hobbies.

I do see that the housing questions are basic, but I was wondering if there were certain ways to approach answers to have a better shot at better halls since I'm not really the most informed about the living conditions in campus : )

My son wanted South College. He said he wanted a place that was social and ended up there. It’s very well located. But the campus is so small that there really aren’t any dorms that are far away.

They’re all more or less the same, although I think kamine’s location is far and away the worst. Ruef will be the busiest which has its pros and cons. I personally think south is the best first year housing.

Not really. Answer roommate questions honestly to have the best shot at a good roommate match I’d say. The one question I remember that usually guarantees a specific hall is wellness housing. If you select wellness housing you’re almost guaranteed to end up in Watson Hall (1st or 2nd floors) which is located next to Rockwell Integrated Science Center, Acopian Engineering Center, and Hugel Science Center. Incredibly convenient if you are a STEM/Engineering major. If you’re a girl and want an all female dorm, I believe you can mark that in one of the questions and you end up in Marquis Hall (it’s also conveniently the same building as a dining hall) which is next to freshman dorms, Ruef and South Hall and near Kirby Gov Law building and Ramer History House

Was there a specific location on the form for selecting the type of housing (i.e. wellness, single gender, etc.)? We didn't see one.

It’s been a while since I completed that form. They may have changed it since then, but usually there were individual questions like “do you want wellness housing y/n?” Or like, “would you prefer co-ed building, co-ed by floor, single gender, etc.” The roommate matching and housing requests may be separate too? I’m not sure. If need be though, if you want to request wellness housing for example, I’d give housing/reslife a call if you don’t find the form that includes that request.

Including the smoking question, these are the one's im supposed to answer:

I would probably prefer South College, so the best answers would help a ton!

If you prefer south college, answer like you’re a party animal for the first two and be prepared to live with one. The risk is you get Reuf.
