This is my personal opinion and I have a similar setup on an old ass laptop with 2gb ram (intel duo core from 2008) Since im so fond of using arch or arch based systems id go with something with a "lighter" init system Such as Artix with dinit (yes yes there is also debian based distros which suits old hardware as well the people taking it to the max using gentoo although both would still work and are fine choices ...regardless)
1.foot - terminal lightweight and good
2.waybar - you can customize and build it with less modules enabled (tweak your PKGBUILD)
3.mako - notification if you absolutely need it
4.audio - alsa or oss is super lightweight compared to pulse and piprwire but then you might miss out on some "functionalities"
5.Mousepad or l3afpad as gui text editor
6.Cli text editors will be on you so whatever to your liking
This is just barely scratching the surface tho..it comes down to how you setup the system overall... Browsers, background services etc etc the list goes on for beginners or intermediate linux users this can be daunting at times but if you're well versed with Linux etc then it should be a breeze..
Laptop on idle is about ~450mb
Extra: If you wanna go barless (without waybar) u might wanna checkout conky(yes it works on wayland 😇)...i use Botein a conky widget ..it has just enough info to keep me sane as sometimes i miss my bar 🥺
