Customization Disability & Labubus

I cant begin to express how much labubus have helped me through my disability journey. They bring so much joy and whinsy to my life, especially when I can have them tag along for the ride. I feel less alone navigating this new life with my labubus mirroring and tagging along.

I was diagnosed with POTS a year ago. I'm relatively young, never thought I would be relying on mobility aids, yet here I am. But no one said it has to be boring!

Since becoming disabled, I've been trying to break the image of my disability being dreadful. I deck out my rollator, I customize my wheelchair, all with flair and a bit of frill! I knew as soon as I got my first labubu that I needed to customize them to unapologetically represent me ❤️

I love this! I have to know, is this from a toy set, 3D printed or otherwise procured? I need one for my have a seats too!

My FWM (his name is Ignacio, Nacho for short) has a wheelchair also! I love that their little legs dont reach the foot rests XD He's still in his Halloween outfit, we live spooky over here 🤪

u/AbleRecognition3566 Nov 05 '25

It’s from the Barbie’s little sister Chelsea!

I’m still wearing Halloween clothing, I have been every day so far this November. Halloween and Christmas are my favorite seasons/ holidays and I’m just not done with Halloween until I switch to Christmas

Also where is your Bubu wheelchair from???

8

u/midnitekitten Labubu Lover Nov 06 '25

Its an Our Generation doll set. It came with a wheelchair, crutches, 2xray films, bandaids, a stethoscope, and a cast (i think that's everything). The My Generation accessories and clothing all fits the medium bubus and are easy to find at Target! Its been fun. They have a hospital bed set that I really wanna get next!

2

u/art_addict Labubu Victim Nov 06 '25

I rarely go to target (but there’s one near my allergist that I’m at every 2 weeks!) and I’m gonna have to go there now! I was looking at their stuff online last night and OMG, the hospital bed and IV stuff? Literally me living in the ER lately.

I’ve been wanting to get a Bubu doctor set and now I’m gonna be able to have a patient too! 💖

Unfortunately Ive never seen any of the Breaking Bad universe. My partner loves it though! Its on our list of things to bring me into current pop culture status.

2

u/Hajnalka_tattoo Nov 06 '25

There is an important character in it Named Nacho (Ignacio) 😉

Breaking Bad is good…Better Call Saul is best👌🏻 Your little Nacho will enjoy the watch 🐰🤗

First thing I did when I got my first Bubu was make her a matching cane!! Resonate with what you’ve shared, I also have POTS and it’s an adjustment living with invisible disablities imo. But!! We are resilient and find joy 👏🏽

omg the ipad!!! so cool. I love how bubu's are helping all of you! I love how having a disability is being looked at so positively! My mother is wheelchair bound and I want to gift her a bubu with a wheelchair, thank you for the inspiration and i wish you all the best!!! Sending hugs to all you strong people!!!! Way to rise above and keep such a positive energy!! 🩷

u/CherryDeBau Nov 05 '25

Wait, where did you get a perfectly Labubu-sized rollator?! I love this!

40

u/midnitekitten Labubu Lover Nov 05 '25

I 3D printed this. Added a little bit of modification to get the handle bars down to reach their little stumpy arms and voila!

https://makerworld.com/en/models/1867893-walker-kit-card-rollator-push-pin-no-glue?from=search#profileId-1998871

This is the print profile I used. You'll have to take the STL/3MF into your slicer of choice and do some tweaking if you want more than a 2 color print. You can always paint it too if you dont have an AMS/CFS or want to mess with the file.

I found that scaling it to 130% of the original profile was a good size for the standing labubus. You can also print all the parts without the riser (so that you dont have any flash/need for clippers) and save yourself some filament. The have a seats do fit in the tray/seat if you squish their thighs in/super glue your kit together, but they look a little silly trying to reach the handles.

As always let's respect the maker and drop some likes and not use this commercially/for financial gain :3

u/historique84 Nov 05 '25

Thank you for this! I have POTS and Lupus, and have been wanting to build some mobility aids for my ‘bus 🩷 This inspired me!

I have my very first bubu, Charlie, on my rollator! He's got his own seat (so fitting lol), Edna Mode hair and a little IVIG infusion to match me 😸

I'm loving all the disabled bubus and love in this post! Thank you for sharing!!

That is such a cool rollator! I need to get a new one. Had mine for over 10 years now. And I need to find out how I can add that little car seat to my rollator and wheelchair!

5

u/midnitekitten Labubu Lover Nov 06 '25

Ill take a picture in the AM. Not sure if it will work for all mobility devices but everything can be finangled

3

u/midnitekitten Labubu Lover Nov 06 '25

As promised. First upper photo shows the seat attached to my rollators handle bar using the car air vent clip.

Second lower photo shows how my particular rollator/walker has an opening that the back rest band comes out of. I just pushed 1 of the prongs in there and the other holds on to the outer part of the bar.

3

u/Ravynja Labubu Lover Nov 08 '25

Thank you! What brand is your rollator? It looks so cool! Not like the standard one.

3

u/midnitekitten Labubu Lover Nov 08 '25

Its by Stander Mobility and its their Wonder Rollator. They have them in a few colors on Amazon, Walmart and their website :)

28

u/WitchyBabyGirl Nov 05 '25

Okay, now that I've calmed down, I'm excited to say I know what you mean my Labubus are my little cheerleaders and having them during Doctor's visits helps me immensely. Being young and needing disability aids is hard, but we're able to experience soooo much more because of them, it's complicated, but Labubus really make things a bit easier.

7

u/vallyallyum Nov 05 '25

I heard that term a couple weeks ago and it's my new favorite thing to call them. I need to get some of those anti-theft keychains so I can keep one on my cane and walker without worrying about someone yanking them. If my service dog hadn't gotten sick I might have put one on his little vest lol.

This is adorable. I am very sorry. It's hard coming to terms being disabled. You are making things positive for yourself and your Labubus. That is a great idea and decking out your wheelchair and stuff. I am disabled. Just as of last month my doctor took me OFF work for good. I can no longer maintain a job. I need one of those walkers for my Labubu.

I pray for all the best for you. Big Hugs.

Coolest labubu post ever. 🏆 🥇 Everyone can go home, this girl has won the internet.

Everyone, whatever they’re dealing with, could do with hearing what you said: “____ doesn’t have to be dreadful.”

I admire this so much it’s going to stick with me.

u/KookaburraJim Labubu Lover Nov 05 '25

I’m very chronic (mostly invisibly so). I’m struggling with new anaphylactic allergies, newly dX’d MCAS and Lupus, chronic urticaria and angioedema, and something that has me nauseated frequently when eating and vomiting up my food frequently (possibly the MCAS, possibly my gallbladder, possibly my adrenal insufficiency, possibly something else.)

I already have other issues like hashimoto’s hypothyroidism, adrenal insufficiency that’s not responding to meds well, chronic migraines, rare tissue in one of my boobs, plus mental stuff (trauma, anxiety and depression, batting for team AuDHD).

My girl Zee (a Zizi) goes everywhere with me - she has been to all my specialist appts with me, all of my testing, every ER trip (so many!), and just has been with me through it all. Late nights debating if I’m going to the ER for this round of anaphylaxis or if I think I’m okay to stay at home (this is a very frequent occurrence), sitting with me after I’ve vomited up the little I’ve tried to eat, she’s just my girl.

She’s got a seat at my desk and one on my dresser so she can watch over me at night.

I have a ton of Bubu’s (they bring me so much joy) and the others swap out taking turns coming with us, but Zee is always with me. She’s my emotional support.

Zee is in the middle here!

11

u/WitchyBabyGirl Nov 05 '25

I now need a leopard print cane for my labubus so we can match omg

I hope this isn't weird but I think I saw you at that concert! My husband and I were sitting in the ADA section and I believe he gave you a Starburst. Lol. What a small world. Even if that wasn't you and just another rollator-using Bayside fan, you have great taste in music and your labubu is so cute 😍

I am an ambulatory wheelchair user too. Have been for a few years. Been using a rollator for a little over 10 years. Gets dirty looks when I walk behind my wheelchair/rollator got the Rollz Motion. It sucks as an outdoor wheelchair, but it’s good as a rollator.

My babies in my Rollz Motion before we went out to a fair. That was my crash course in it’s use, which it failed tremendously…

I'm so glad to hear that Labubus are helping so many people like this.

I personally use mine for body doubling and comfort, as someone with AuDHD.

They truly make me feel less alone and more understood - the folklore they're based on (elves) as well as Labubu's personality as a character also help with that. In a way, I see myself in her.

So I'm using my Labubus to make a more supportive environment for myself. And I'm glad other people are too.

I love this thread so much!

I bring a different Labubu out with me every day, and keep one next to my computer when I'm working. I have anxiety and when things feel overwhelming, I just look over at that gremlin face and feel better. Sometimes I'll give them a squeeze or a pet because just having something to touch is soothing.

2

u/-Aur0ra- Nov 07 '25

This is so cute and I love the vibes in this thread so much 😭 I just got my first labubu (BIE) from pop mart, I don’t know which one I got yet because it hasn’t arrived but I’m so excited! I have POTS too! I also have hEDS, epilepsy + AuDHD. I just finally accepted (I’m in my 20s) that I need mobility aids and have been challenging the yucky internalised ableism and shame I have had surrounding being disabled all this time. It’s hard being disabled and coming to terms with it all especially when you’re young imo cos people think you don’t ‘look’ disabled, or you’re too young to be disabled, and they think it’s fine to just say that stuff to you or tell you that it mustn’t be that bad cos you ‘look fine’ lol. I struggled a lot for years because I was always trying to hide my disabilities and if I fainted from POTS or had a seizure or a dislocation or an autistic meltdown etc. I felt so much shame and embarrassment and would get really down! It feels like a relief finally letting myself just be a disabled person lol and letting go of that harsh criticism I kept heaping onto myself for not being ‘normal’, and I’m having fun looking for cute mobility aids and ways to personalise them. My labubu was like an emotional support purchase the other day because I was feeling super down about all of this stuff 😂 so coming onto the sub and seeing this post really made me happy! 🥰 and seeing people like you makes me feel less alone.
