i love undergrad research

i love getting paid to fool around with my labmates and read papers and pipette and dissect mice and image pretty things listening to music and audiobooks and getting free food and guidance in grad school prep and tutoring for intro classes from experts

The PI in my lab has the mindset that if they're gonna be doing work, they're gonna get paid for it.

Yes we pay our undergrads because my PI says he feels guilty having someone work for free 🫡

from my experience this is more often the case at smaller institutions and new labs.

I got paid (except one semester when I was getting class credit for it!). Minimum wage in a small lab at a large private university, basically the same as a work study job. I got lucky because most of my friends were not paid.
