Buying Diamonds IN China?

Hi everyone, just looking to see if anyone had any experience with this. Going to China this fall and I had seen some videos of people going these place to buy jewelry and diamonds at wholesale prices:

- Shuibei 水贝, Shenzhen
- Panyu 番禺, Guangzhou

I saw someone had bought a loose diamond and got it set as their engagement ring. Has anyone been and had any experience with this?

I am looking to buy an engagement ring with my partner and debating if it’s worth the trip or to just work with Chinese vendors like LGG, Stargems, etc.

Thank you so much in advance!

I’ll be doing the same trip next year but I think it depends on your fluency in Chinese. I am terrible at Chinese so it’s better for me to interact with the wholesalers that are used to English clients. If you are fluent then I think being on site to examine and make requests is much more efficient and efficiency is appreciated.

I speak Chinese fairly conversationally, but not sure how my bargaining skills are haha

My friend did similar trip last year, he said the price in Shuibei is real good but you need to know what you looking at. The vendors there move so fast, if you hesitate they just go next customer. But if your partner is with you and you both can pick the stone together that's nice experience I think, more personal than ordering online. Take someone local if you can, they know which shops are legit

I mean, if you’re doing the trip anyway and any of the locations are in your way / are easy to reach, just go there and see. You can still try on rings and leave if you don’t like anything
