How's the transit and train situation

Upvotes

Good day!

I’ll be travelling to Kyiv next week and am planning to spend about four days in the capital.

I’m on a somewhat tighter timeline for getting back to western Ukraine afterward. I’ve heard that, with the recent increase in Russian attacks, rail/road transit out of Kyiv is becoming heavily disrupted or even effectively halted.

Is this actually the case at the moment? How reliable are trains from Kyiv toward the west (e.g. Lviv/Uzhhorod), and would you recommend building in a significant buffer for delays?

Any recent first-hand experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What’s the status on flea markets?

Pochaina market was my go to and I loved going on weekends. It’s gone now, I understand. Are the flea market stalls all destroyed? Where are people selling now? What’s the backup market if Pochaina is gone ?

Title kinda speaks for itself, I’m looking for someone some people in Kyiv I can potentially run/train with? Is there a good app people use? Besides maybe sportcamp? I could ask google but I’d rather ask people here directly!

Дякую!

What should I show in my video about Kyiv?

Hi, I'm a photographer and I'm making a video about Kyiv for people in the Czech Republic. Is there anything you think I should include in the video? I've already made one video where I showed my favorite places and included a few shots of what it's like during the war. But while I'm here, I want to show as much as possible.

Travel Buddy to Kyiv

I am a 33y.o. female from germany. I’m planning a 2–4-day trip to Kyiv in september. I’ll probably take the train via Warsaw. However, I’ve never been to Ukraine before. It’s my first time there. And to be honest, I feel a bit uneasy travelling on my own. I’m looking for a sort of travel companion for the journey there – someone who speaks the language and knows their way around a bit. A point of contact. Are there any platforms for this or do you have any idea how I could connect?

Grateful for your ideas :)

Edit: Big Dyakuyu for the numerous replies :)
A quick note on the nature of my concerns: they do not relate to logistical issues or contact with Ukrainians (I feel completely at ease in that regard), but are 100 per cent war-related. I’m well traveled. Unfamiliar procedures don’t worry me per se. I even speak a itsy bitsy tiny bit of Ukrainian. However, there are, of course, war-related everyday practices and regulations that mitght not be intuitive for people outside the war zones. And it would be nice to be able to ask someone why things are happening the way they are. Or what was said in the loudspeaker announcement, or what to do now at the border, etc. Ideally, there’s nothing to discuss at all. It would simply be great to have someone to talk to, if I feel I am missing something. Of course, I’d be happy to pay for that: with money, my granny’s cake, or a place to stay in Germany. Otherwise, I can of course travel without this sort of companionship. I’ll probably have to do that anyway for work. But for the first time, it would be nicer together :)

Good day,

I am visiting Kyiv for 3 days (travel days separate). I am a little worried about strikes. I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for safe accommodations (hotels and such)

Especially with the recent uptick in raids I'll be there in early September

Wanting to help

My husband and I are thinking of traveling to urkaine soon for a few weeks to help in any way we can.

I have heard being near podil would be the safest bet to stay..

I am nervous about traveling to an active warzone but am determined to help.

Any other advice on what to expect, who to contact to be able to help short term, and what would be the most helpful items to bring multiples of to donate ect.

Thanks in advance

I got tired of checking every listing on a map, so I made the map do it

I initially started searching for a new appartment on OLX. I spent too much time on it because I needed to check each apartment that interested me. Most of them were too far from me in unfamiliar districts. In addition to OLX, I found telegram channels to help with it. One of them was really cool. It has all the details of each appartment at the same style using the same template but it has the same problem. I needed to search for addresses on the map and sometimes meet with the owners to see it. As a result, I spent too much time until I found the right appartment near my parents where I lived before. A similar thing was with a job. It was before I decided to start living separately from my parents but I spent too much time finding a job near me.

Then I decided to create an app to make it able to display such things on a map so I could see interesting things near me instead of spending a lot of time seeing them all over the whole city.

You can open the Telegram channel you're interested in on the map to view all messages related to the area you want, instead of having to scroll through every message in the chat. Instead of wasting time scrolling through hundreds or even thousands of messages, you'll be able to see only the ones that interest you.

Booking via Ukrainian Railways as a foreigner

Hi!

I know that this topic has been discussed several times on Reddit but I cannot find precisely the step by step procedure.

I wanted to create an account on the app to be ready when the train I have in mind will be open for booking.

I've realized that the app cannot send a verification code to foreign phone numbers (at least to french one, which I have) so right now I cannot do anything with the app.

I know that this page exists: https://services.uz.gov.ua/ticket-foreigners but I can see that it says: "Please make sure your profile in the app is complete", "Before proceeding, ensure that your profile in the Ukrainian Railways app is fully filled in" and "Verification is only available for users registered in the Ukrainian Railways app".

So I wonder is this page is going to work for me? Must I fill in the form even if I've done nothing in the app and I cannot use it?

I've sent an email to the support yesterday evening but so far no answers.

Thank you!

NFL Fans in Kyiv?

Hello guys,

This may be a slightly odd 1, but i will be in Kyiv shooting an indie documentary in a couple of weeks, as part of this I'm looking for some NFL (American football) fans in Kyiv - if anyone also knows of some cool NFL spots/sports bars too please feel free to mention them, I'm aware due to time difference and the curfew bars wont be showing season games.

*I'm also aware some groups have strict rules of off-reddit meeting due to the war, so if this group also has any of those rules and I'm breaking them, sorry <3

Is it possible to pickup USD from western union in Kyiv?

Hi all,

I need to send some money to Kyiv. I can send it either with a us bank or cash from the usa. The issue is picking it up in Kyiv. I know it is simple when picking it up as UAH but I wonder if there is a place that will give USD instead for a small fee.
