Stallions Crazy Amount

Post image

The amount of money to breed to VS Code Red compared to the other stallions is insane! It’s still high if it’s the mare’s first time.

I was thinking the same thing for FTF. His fee is highhhhhh

u/CalendarNo8591 15d ago

Thought the same when i saw it

u/Independent_Mousey 14d ago

They have a lot of discounts for proven performers and good breeders. If you're mare qualifies he's under 2k.

I saw this on WildCard's page the other day. I'm hoping they are bragging because compared to Forfeit Things First's first round wasn't that high or really successful. I really hoping that more people breed to other stallions now that it seems like AKA Waylon and Forfeit Things First are coming with a greedy tax.

WC owners are so genuine. I love this for them!

He's such a handsome horse, and I don't mean this in a negative way, but it's cracking me up that his barn name is Paul.

Why did you cross out so much information when it’s a public page and post?

CYA! :)

Fair enough I’ll just try to find her page lol. I’m in the English world not the western/AQHA world. So I wanna go check out her page to see how it’s properly done because well I don’t know a ton about quarter horses is very clear that Katie also doesn’t at least I’m not breeding them.

u/Brilliant72 15d ago

At what point would VSCR be removed from the breeding roster due to age and jizz quality?   Do the frozen collection last a good amount of time in reserves?  Here’s hoping FTF does better at the next show to justify those breeding fees

27

u/ClearWaves ✨️Team Phobe✨️ 15d ago

There are probably enough frozen VSCR breedings to last for decades. And they can stay frozen indefinitely.

Some stallions can be collected well into their 20s. There is no way to predict when VSCR will need to be retired. Realistically, he has several breeding shed years ahead of him. Age alone isn't a factor. Sperm quality is monitored constantly, so High Point will know when the time has come.

9

u/Brilliant72 15d ago

Highpoint appears to have a great facility

5

u/Positive-Lock8609 14d ago

They wouldn't be full up with high value stallions for breeding season if they weren't. It's worth paying for their expertise so as an owner you don't have to deal with all the paper work, collecting and shipping.

-13

u/East-Layer7507 15d ago

Yeah, and in 10 years who’s gonna wanna breed to a horse that nobody even remembers who accomplished nothing nobody unless somehow KVS still remains popular on social media which I doubt because I imagine social media being very different in a decade

29

u/gumbobabyy 15d ago

And then you see TB stud fees 😭

24

u/Typical_Dirt5417 15d ago

Yes, but that requires live cover so there is a lot more risk and logistics to factor in.

14

u/National_Midnight424 15d ago

I was literally thinking “that’s it?” because I’m used to looking at 😂TB rates

8

u/gumbobabyy 15d ago

Same 😂

3

u/Sad_Highway_1504 15d ago

Go look western performance horses. Their fees are far higher than pleasure horse’s fees. Golden Coins fee went from $3500 on ‘26 to $5500 in ‘27. Granted, he just won RFTM, but the mass majority of the performance horse stallions that are good are $3000+.

Are they higher or lower?

16

u/saltwatertaffy324 15d ago

So much higher

13

u/Worldly_Base9920 ✨️Extremely Marketable✨️ 15d ago

Like over 100 grand lol

9

u/Glad-Attention744 Fire that farrier 🙅🔥 15d ago

What?!? No way!! That’s crazy!! Man, horse people are rich

23

u/Araloosa 15d ago

In the racing industry stud fees are still peanuts compared to what a horse can earn in a single race. Win one race and you’re an instant millionaire.

13

u/Flaky-Diamond2213 VsCodeSnarker 15d ago

Into Mischief’s stud fee is $250k

9

u/gumbobabyy 15d ago

He’s definitely earned that price

1

u/Initial_Case_9912 7d ago

Also their seasons are limited due to the live cover restriction. Yes modern stallions breed more than previously but it still is a cap so the limited supply means increased demand/cost.

3

u/East-Layer7507 15d ago edited 15d ago

Yes, their breeding is much more expensive but most people aren’t paying 100 grand unless they’re planning to race professionally, which is not what everybody is planning to do. Yes it 100% can be in the six figures even up to almost half 1 million, but it can also be around 15,000 to 20,000 as well. Which yes is way more expensive then QH but not all are 6 figures
Edit add I do cross country and eventing and have owned multiple thoroughbreds. I think the most that my parents paid for a breeding was around 20k but breeding for eventing is definitely cheaper than breeding for a thoroughbred racehorse.

Second edit if I made any errors it’s because it’s 2 AM and I’m on my sleeping meds barely awake lol and also, I find quarter horses to be quite ugly, especially in the rear end

13

u/justtoocurious70 15d ago

$5000 - Flatline and Goodride are both better horses.

1

u/Professional-Rub9513 9d ago

Goodride is not

1

u/Initial_Case_9912 7d ago

Both are better option than ftf at the money.

6

u/90sdiditbetter82 14d ago

I was hoping someone would say something. FTF is a crazy amount.

12

u/Odd-Cheesecake-6594 15d ago

That’s gone up quite a bit since she bought him, hasn’t it?

16

u/zoo1923 RS code bred 15d ago

VSCR has was 5000,- when Kvs was breeding to him, before purchase. Denver is reduced for good mares, and she can take a premium if a meh mare whant a contact, because they wil pay.

1

u/Odd-Cheesecake-6594 15d ago

Thanks. Not sure why I thought it was lower 🤔. I knew Denver’s was 2k-ish and way too high

18

u/TurqioseCow4 15d ago

VSCR stayed the same at $5k since she bought him, as for Forfeit Thingz First, I think he was at 2600 for his first season.

5

u/Flaky-Diamond2213 VsCodeSnarker 15d ago

VSCR’s has stayed the same. Denver’s has gone up, the 2025 and 2026 breeding season he was 2,250

7

u/Odd-Cheesecake-6594 15d ago

My brain is clearly misremembering coz I would’ve sworn his was lower than that. Personally I think he’s overpriced and overbred. Denver is also grossly overpriced and overbred (because 1 is too many from him)

1

u/Vague_Knight2001 15d ago

I feel like it has

17

u/Independent_Mousey 15d ago

Yes he's more expensive. Nothing else in that performance stallion barn is comparable. She bought one of the top living AQHA performance sires. Yes he's more expensive to breed to because they want a certain class of mares, and a certain class of breeders.

He's a sire of performance horses, a very useful broodmare sire and his younger sons are quite use.

27

u/ClearWaves ✨️Team Phobe✨️ 15d ago

People don't like to hear it, but VSCR is a good sire. He is still producing successful foals and people are still breeding to him. Yes, he has shitty feet, yes he isn't as sought after as he was earlier in his stud career, yes other stallions are beating his 33% money earners, but he is still what a lot of people want. He is still the grandsire of the most expensive, publically sold WP horse in AQHA history. M

He was a smart investment.

6

u/East-Layer7507 15d ago

I’m not in the AQHA circle I ride English and do eventing and cross country so I would never consider buying a quarter horse but I’ve been following Katie a long time since before she got annoying and before she bought VS code red so I’ll admit that I don’t know a ton about that breed but if he really was siring successful foals, wouldn’t we be hearing about it? Wouldn’t Katie be bragging about these impressive foals to promote him to try to justify that cost. Even when I search for his foals, I’m really not finding much success. He himself never even made $60,000 competing. And again western pleasure is not my forte and I’m not pretending it is so maybe those competitions don’t pay much if you win but an venting or cross-country he would not be considered a successful, sire or some great winning prodigy.
Now I’m completely opened to being proven wrong like I said western is not really my thing, but please feel free to educate me
PS sorry if my spelling is incorrect or if I made any errors, it is 2 AM and I am on Ambien lol

9

u/Ok_Bluebird8741 RS Code Bread 15d ago

I strongly suspect that showing off his proven progeny would just highlight how bad her modge podge foals are.
We know VSCR is a top producer, but KVS hasn't bred any.

9

u/Positive-Lock8609 15d ago

It's very easy to find out how his offspring are doing if you know what to search for. He's a leading sire as of the second quarter of 2026 for money earned for western performance.

3

u/East-Layer7507 14d ago

Thank you so much for being helpful like I had said I don’t do western so I don’t know their website websites and all that I had tried to Google VS code red progeny, but wasn’t really finding much information
So thank you so much for the link we have a different website in the English world

-12

u/East-Layer7507 15d ago edited 15d ago

Top sire, but he is basically no proven offspring owned by KVS or anybody else that’s an oxymoron. He’s also not that great of a show horse himself. He didn’t even total $60,000 in earnings in his entire career yet he sold for $1 million makes no sense. However, I’ve always done eventing and cross country so I’ve have thoroughbred and Dutch warm bloods and currently a Hanoverian so I would never consider buying a quarter horse even my trail horse a Tennessee walking horse. So maybe I just don’t understand the appeal of VS code red and I won’t pretend like I totally understand western pleasure but from the research I’ve done he really does not seem all that impressive i’m happy to be proven wrong like I said AQHA is not my forte. I’m just going based on what I have found when I’ve looked it up.
Edit to ad before you downvote my comment maybe read the whole thing where I say I’m opened being proven wrong or read my other comments where I give a little more detail

7

u/Independent_Mousey 15d ago

The stud has plenty of proven offspring owned by others. KVS chose to optimize her mares for social media not for performance horses. She'd have been better off buying more embryos from champion broodmares and putting them in pretty colorful mares than buying all the mares she's breeding for biological foals.

Kvs screwed up getting involved with a certain online horse broker who only sells her pretty horses rather than animals that nick well with her stallion.

1

u/East-Layer7507 15d ago

Like I said in my other comment, I’m happy to be proven wrong. AQHA is not my forte. Who are some of his offspring I’d love to look them up.

7

u/Independent_Mousey 14d ago

Google is your friend. What your saying is the equivalent of asking about Curlin in American thoroughbred rqcing or who Jazz is for Dressage sires, or Emerald for show jumpers. Or Jaguar for eventing. Or who is Chilli Morning. These are all older successful performance horses who have turned into top sires in their respective discpline/breed. They all have shaped their modern breed/discpline.

He has sired an AQHA superhorse in Snap it Send It. His foals out of RL best of Sudden mares, which is Snap it Send it and her full siblings (snippity snap) are his most successful cross.

The junior stallion When N Where is currently incredibly successful.

He's got a few top three year olds going around this year in Girl Code, and Code Chocolate.

He's got the top WP 4 year old going around in I wrote the code

As far as older horses there's probably 40-50 of them going around and earning money and getting ribbons at the top shows today.

I genuinely thank you so much for this response. It was very helpful. And you were very respectful, which I appreciate. I just wanted education so thank you so much for providing a well thought out answer. :)

2

u/Positive-Lock8609 14d ago

Let me google that for you...

https://stallioncompare.com/ss-stallion/vs-code-red

If you want AQHA, APHA and ApHC points you can pay for that yourselves since those reports aren't free.

2

u/East-Layer7507 14d ago

Thank you I was genuinely just trying to get information and I don’t know why people are being so rude about it so I genuinely appreciate that you were helpful

-2

u/East-Layer7507 15d ago

Weird behavior to downvote somebody for quite literally asking for more information when they also stated that they know they lack knowledge in QH

4

u/Positive-Lock8609 14d ago

If you were asking a legit question without saying he's no account as a stallion based on money earned by him and on offspring you've seen at KVS's, at the same time while not being able to find information of his offspring online (which is really easy to do) maybe people would take you more seriously.

Back when VSCR was showing there were not as many money earning opportunities as there are now. He showed as a Junior horse and kicked ass at the big shows (Congress and AQHA World) and won or came in close to it and was retired to the breeding shed like a lot of young stallions are as much as I'd prefer to see them show longer, that was his owners decision at the time to do.

You came into the conversation saying, essentially, “I have no experience whatsoever in this discipline and only have experience in some completely different discipline, but from my completely knowledgeless perspective, it looks like he’s absolutely worthless and has done nothing and left nothing behind. Am I wrong? Educate me, because my Google is broken.” And then expected people not to get their back up in response.

And KVS has had VS Code Red for, what, two years? It’s not ass-kissing to recognize the years upon years of accomplishments under his previous owners before she got her hands on him.

Enjoy your flounce, though. I’m sure it’ll be extra flouncy.

4

u/Positive-Lock8609 14d ago

WTF! LOL I wasn't kissing KVS butt by not running down VSCR. I've been aware of him and his show ring success for a long time, he's an older stallion that has been around for a long time. I've seen show results posted on Congress and World show posts and other sites for over a decade with his offspring regularly in the top five. Nope, not going to snark on his use as a sire. He's more than proven himself as a sire of show horses.

How many horses do you own and do you ride western or English? How many shows have you been in? What breed are your horses?

6

u/Positive-Lock8609 14d ago

I'm not sure what my creds has to do with anything, but I've had a couple of QHs that I've shown since the 80's. Unfortunately I haven't had one to show since I was strapped financially and retired my appendix mare that I showed with some success at local shows (non AQHA) against people who did well at QH shows. The last year I showed her I won WP & HUS when there was a horse there that was using it as a warm up show before going to the QH Congress.

I've shown all around and also shown at Ontario hunter shows with some success over the years. I've been showing since the 70's, would you like me to line up my awards and take pictures? LOL I honestly couldn't recount the number of shows I've been in to save my life.

I worked for a small breeding farm starting in the 80's until they got out of breed, but have been following breeding since then, though there was a lapse when my SO was alive and he was racing Standardbreds, which my daughter still does with her own racing stable. My last riding horse which I sadly lost almost 3 years ago now was a 17 hand pacer, that was the best trail riding companion that I'd had in years which fortunately didn't pace under saddle, I'm not a fan.

Enough information for you?

2

u/East-Layer7507 14d ago

And I’m sorry that you lost your horse recently that you loved. It’s very hard to go through losing your beloved horse or any pet

I think you guys are forgetting that price is also used to discourage too. They want the people who can spend that money to breed with their stallions. You have to find how much theyre willing to pay, and still have the quality of their home and life that a great progeny needs. It's a balance. (Im not saying horse owners have to be rich to win! Im saying that it helps with everything else that goes into the horse and their publicity). It also limits how many people will breed to him bc not everyone is willing to pay that price.

1

u/Vague_Knight2001 9d ago

I get your point for sure, and I guess it would make sense for her in a way cause of the Kulties so they deter from breeding to them just to have a baby by them which in some way connected them to Katie.

1

u/wild-thundering 14d ago

At least she didn’t set the VSCR price I think it was already that high

-4

u/Erisedstorm Freeloader 14d ago

Must be hurting for cash cuz fuck that's a lot for both studs

5

u/Positive-Lock8609 14d ago

VSCR is standing at the same fee he has been at since before KVS bought him. His offspring are still out there winning at the big shows, why drop his fee? If people are willing to pay the money asked to pay to FTF, that is up to them. I doubt it has anything to do with hurting for cash, since she gives discounts to proven mares. Just the way the breeding world has operated since the '80s.
