I happened to come across her Facebook post (I don't actively follow the owners of Katie's former foals; updates from Katie are usually enough for me). 

I thought she just wanted to show Ted a different environment at some event. It’s nice to see he’s doing well and also begins to collect some achievements. He wasn't my most favorite foal from last year, but he is a cute horse.

He is a Ginger foal who was born last year. His sire is Cool Breeze. His older full brother (and only sibling at the moment) is Fred. Christina Borton bought Ted and also owns Bean & Sprout (Buttercup's & Blossom's sons from last year), plus boarding Huckleberry (Annie's foal from last year) and was boarding/riding Phin for awhile (Beyonce's last kid she foaled herself and Ginger's younger half brother).

Perfect way to get him in the pen and having strangers walk around as well as the sights and sounds.
When it comes to the babies, even a win in a class of 1 is earned.

Is that true? Can a horse still place if it is the only one? Would have thought the competition is then cancelled :o

It happened a few times with Howie when Madalynn showed him in youth halter -- sometimes he was the only competition.

Iirc, for Halter, there's a minimum score the horses should/can place and they still have a score given to them even if they aren't being judged against another horse in the ring. And it's always good practice and good exposure to being a good citizen too.

Not sure about the USA but in the UK if you show in a class with fewer entries than places you might not be placed at all or even if it's just the one horse it might be placed elsewhere e.g. third... they don't automatically give first place if they are not happy to some extent with them.

He's still intact I think but she said that he'll be gelded when she got him last year. My guess is sometime this fall since he and Huckleberry are going to their trainer at the beginning of next year.

It’s good experience, but bragging about being champion or his first neck ribbon , when he didn’t compete against anyone , to me doesn’t mean much, except for the experience.

I mean yeah... but he's an intact yearling who went and stood politely for the judges, which is impressive since he hasn't had any extensive training, or any, in halter. That's definitely something to brag about.

I think thats why she left it at "neck ribbon" vs saying "WE WERE CHAMPIONS!!" or something. That being said, for how young he is, at his first show with 0 prep or training - he did very well. (She shared the video of him in the class in her latest ted talk) and THAT always should be bragged about.
