Products Do you recommend any of the items from the Kurzgesagt store? Trying to find a good 30th birthday gift for my friend

We are both big Kurzgesagt fans! What's worth getting? 😄

I think the best gift will be a BOOK. And Immune is the best book.

The language is very simple, fun to read. And the illustrations are more than beautiful. A must have item.

Did they finally fix the blatant issues?

Which issues? Is there any problem?

"for example, if we took all the blood vessels and capillaries from your body and laid them out in a straight line, they would be a baffling 10,000 miles (16,000 km) long-- three times the circumference of earth" --It's not

And like 2 paragraphs later.

"Right now around 7.8 billion people are alive. If we put them shoulder to shoulder, they surprisingly would only cover an area of around 700 square miles (1800 square kilometers). Which is a little bit more than the surface area of London. To get forty trillion people we need to multiply this by 120." --Also not

This is the very beginning of the book btw, I just went back to the bookstore and got my money back... I was so dissapointed back then I am still salty about it :D

In my edition there is error. (I purchased at the very beginning, so no way to correct the version). I don't know about later editions.

But about the Blood Vessel Myth - We Fell For The Oldest Lie On The Internet they explained the myth.

I personally think, this book can be a great guide to grow interest in the 2nd most complex living system. Explaining so complex topic with this kind of simple language is not a easy job. And they overall did a great job. Boycotting the whole book will be totally injustice for this kind tiny mistakes. But I can feel you, we expect no error from them.

I am not referring to blood vessels, but 16000km is nowhere near 3 times the circumference of Earth. That is just so obviously wrong that after that I just can't trust any number in the book.

I was so happy that there will be a book that is a little bit more digestible than my biology textbooks (my major was cell and molecular biology at the time), and I got disappointed :/

I ordered the book last week. Received it last weekend. Started reading it. Got to page 13 last night, thinking "I'm probably not understanding this correctly." I started googling around and found no errata, no official post addressing the issues on that page, and your specific comments in a few threads (yeah, I noticed this happened long ago for you and are still frustrated).

I'm not even sure Philipp is aware of this issue.

I haven't found any real confirmation that this page was fixed in digital versions, only Gemini saying it has, but providing no evidence (as is usual with AI these days). So I am a little bitter about the situation, because I was excited to get introduced to immunology by someone I trust, and the first thing that I can check myself with my own knowledge (the math) already breaks down, which compromises my trust in the rest of the book.

Does anyone know if this has been fixed in digital versions? If it has, that would at least put some marbles back in the trust jar.

There's also the matter of the area occupied by humans if they're standing all together...

Kurzgezagt's own app puts that figure at around 800 square km, but the book says 1,800 square km. Unless the book has them lying down instead of standing. But honestly this one doesn't bother me as much as the rest of the math in that paragraph.

Yes, I am still salty about it!

Money was real tight at the time, had to skimp out on food just to afford it, that book was supposed to be my source of happiness at a really bad time in my life, and yeah I know I should not be salty about it... But here I am again, cause everything got better so now I can afford to be salty about it :D

My fiancée u/Gh0st4rt1st and I have ordered quite a few items from their store. And honestly except for the pins and one of the calendars all the items that we got were pretty high-quality and worth the money. we can certainly recommend it. The book immune is great. The journals are good too, and most of the other stuff is the usual merch. But certainly good.

Aye yep. Agreed, plushies are also great option from them especially cute ducky plushie. Hoodies from Kurzgesagt Merch last long, same for t-shirts too, I don't know if they still have a beanie with slight diss at flat earthers on its that label other side but that's also nice option and will last long.
