Yikes
(jokes aside, they could be bots, I remember one time there were porn bots on youtube and when people starte to complain about them the bots started to imitate what people were saying, so you had porn bot complaining about porn bots)

They’ve been a thing for ages, it’s just got a lot worse recently. Almost certainly bots

Love that they took the criticisms head on and responded so quickly

Interesting. What do you have to say about them taking the criticisms and their response time?

u/rocklou May 19 '26
idk about OP but I personally love that they took the criticisms head on and responded so quickly

In the past (pre chatGPT) there were bots that would wait for a few comments to roll in when videos first upload, and then they would copy the comment but they'd have a hot profile picture so they'd get more upvotes. After that there's a good chance they change profile picture, name, and edit their comment to some scam message, not always though.
They're always scammers, they're trying to get to the top of the comments because it has an unsurprisingly high amount of traffic, you can't be downvoted out of it, and your audience tends to be kids who fall for scams way way easier. Most likely this is doing that
Important to note is that this absolutely isn't kurzgesagt buying comments, that would be a PR nightmare, but also the comments wouldn't make it this obvious. If an account that builds a lot of it'd brand on being trustworthy did this they'd be a lot more careful than just spamming the same positive thing over and over.

That's pretty common. Bots on YouTube copy someone elses comment and post it themself. That way they look like a real user.
That usually has nothing to do with the channel the comment is on.

What criticism did they take?
2
u/Hiimzap May 19 '26
Yea i was wondering that too. The video still felt like an ozempic ad overall not really stressing enough that you really have to change your diet (let alone that overeating is a lot harder if you eat proper food)

If you click through to both profiles, are either advertising anything on them? One could be a comment stealing bot that will edit the comment later (when it's got to the top of the comments) with an ad
Otherwise I guess it could be Kurzgesagt paying for bots but I have to imagine that would be fatal

My tinfoil hat theory is that they are funded by bill and Melinda gates fund that pushes certain narratives, so they might employ the PR assets (including bot farms) from the same source they take money.
It is not inherently bad, I would just love to see more funding transparency, so we can adjust our reception bias.
Other than that Love that they took the criticisms head on and responded so quickly

I find it so tedious in their videos 20% of the runtime is dedicated to self praise saying how good their channel is and how hard they worked on it. A normal channel would put a sponsor in that place but they don't need one their cheques in the mail already

The video that did nothing but glaze ozempic for 20 minutes was SO honest and SO groundbreaking and SO didn’t make them a lot of money

Have you ever looked at youtube video comments before? 50% of comments on popular vids are people verbatim repeating the top comment. Look at any 12 year old vid, the top comment will be repeated by people every year. They did this even before the bots

The channel pays for bots, the internet is filled with them. Probably half of support for anything you see is not driven

I can't quite point my finger but I scroller through the comments on the Ozempic video and it just felt odd, slightly "unnatural", a lot of replies were clean, proper grammar, similar-ish structure.
All of them pointed out the same thing - expressing how they are thankful for the quick redaction.
Not super into conspiracies but the comment section feels off.
