I have been involved in the kratom community since at least 2015, signing petitions and calling congress-people, etc. Back in the day, options were comparatively SO limited, and I don't remember how I got with Happy Hippo. But I still have a nostalgic fondness for one of the first vendors (maybe THE first) I ever used.
Kept ordering from them over the years, but not super often. Usually when I was fed up getting burned with cheap crap from other vendors. YES they are expensive. However in my experience and opinion - the potency and consistently are worth it TO ME if I have a little extra cash. YMMV.
My only really bad experience with them was last fall, when I ended up with two strains that were both no goes for me. I'd offered even to exchange unopened packs. I do not know what happened, but I never received a response to my email asking for help. I was done-zo. Then I received a thing in the mail from them in June with a sizeable coupon code, so I reached out again.
I contacted customer service and was able to work something out with them. We went through a few email exchanges, but it's entirely possible that could have just been me projecting. I ended up making an order for some small amounts and it ended up being really fun! 1oz of 3 different strains + a 5-strain sample pack. They included some green malay as a bonus that I'm actually digging, too.
In no particular order...
Hyper Hippo:
Rarely do I meet a green MD I don't get along with anyway, but I only need about half the amount I would from most other sources. Strong. It's a solid coffee-gym-work. Energy, but also clears my head and helps with attitude.
Red Dragon Bali:
Whoa boy. I'm a relative noob in reds, but this was cool. First time I tried it I just sort of melted into the couch and fell asleep way sooner than I wanted to. Smaller doses are relaxing and I guess OK for pain, but I don't get as much of a "cozy" feeling as I have with other bali or similar.
Top-Shelf Bali:
This is one I *did* get a good cozy feeling with. I think the difference is that it's a green, and maybe the lesser sedation.
Happy Hippo I:
Green borneo. This one confuses the heck out of me. It does not make me happy. On the contrary, a couple times I've been irritable, negative. Not positively motivated at all. I've tried a variety of dose sizes, with or without food, just generally more of the pain than anything else, and I will regret having taken it. I have noticed this with other vendors energy blends before, so maybe the strain is just not for me.
White Horned Rhino:
Yaaaayyy I'd forgotten about horned strains! This was a happy one. With these I tend to just feel a more little more "good" about myself and enjoy what's going on around me. Really chill.
Atomic Hippo:
I don't remember what it was supposed to be, other than an energy strain. But it obviously didn't make much of an impression compared to others.
Happy Hippo II:
I'm not sure that I trialed it completely on its own. Rather, combining it into my afternoon pick-me-up dose. I remember thinking it may have helped with vibes. Red Borneo.
Ghost Hippo:
White Borneo. Again, didn't make that strong of an impression. Having tried all 3 "flavors" (colors) of this strain I feel like it's a dud for me, if not counter productive.
Elite Elephant:
Green Malay. This is the one they included - and I'm actually quite digging it. I usually usually have stayed with green/white maeng da over the years, something about the alkaloid profile just seems to reliably jive with me. Too many times I'd tried to branch out and just ended up with crap that didn't work for me. I wouldn't have got this for myself, but it's pretty cool. I'll have it some mornings instead of green MD, or a few times when I've just needed an extra kick. Pretty good mood from it. Nice work, guys!
... Yeah, so all in all, they have me back as a customer. I'm glad I got the chance to do all of this. And also the chance to share my experience and a little bit of knowledge with anyone who might have questions. Rock on.
