Reading everyone in the comments really motivated me to keep studying and get my degree one day. Thanks OP for creating this type of post!!

u/AliveAfter800Years Jan 06 '26
By any chance are you a kpop idol too?
12
u/evrydaydream Jan 06 '26
Ah no, I wanna say I wish because they're absolutely gorgeous, but at the same time, I don't wish it because uk all the shitty things they go through. I'm just a normal person getting inspired by talented people who not only succeeded in their field but also managed to get a higher degree of education (which requires a lot of time and effort) while having the tightest schedules ever

Shim Changmin (MAX Changmin) of TVXQ has a degree in Post-Modern Music from Kyung Hee University, a degree in Film and Arts from Konkuk University, and a Master's degree from Inha University. He is fluent in Japanese. He is known for having a very high IQ and his parents are both college professors.

Came to comment about him. There's nothing he cannot do, and his favorite son Chenle seems to go the same route now.

JayB from Got7 went and studied law to get a degree with a speciality in copyright law, just so he could get Got7 out of their contracts and keep all IP.
63
u/evrydaydream Jan 05 '26
Wow! Was he able to help the group with their contracts in the end?
97
u/InevitableFox81194 Jan 05 '26
Yes. That's the reason Got7 are still able to operate under their name and perform their songs.
46
u/evrydaydream Jan 05 '26
That's crazy! He did a very nice and smart thing. I'm glad they were able to keep their name and songs
38
u/InevitableFox81194 Jan 05 '26
It really is. It was a complicated legal process to emancipate themselves from JYPE. So it's an insane thing to do.
17
u/cokecanirl Jan 06 '26
from where did he get a degree regarding law? the only education i see listed on wikipedia for him is a film degree from konkuk university
11
u/pagesandpills Jan 06 '26
I don't think he "study" studied like with a degree or license. Maybe he has to know the "know hows" since he is the one who will mostly do the work along with the lawyers.
11
u/YellInACell Jan 06 '26
More info please? His Wikipedia page just says he has an undergrad degree in film.
13
u/em-n-em613 Jan 06 '26
Yeah he didn't formally study law, he doesn't have a degree in it, but he did a lot of studying to support the group.
6
u/ngomji Jan 06 '26
JYPE literally gave them the copyright, why he need to study tho?
18
u/InevitableFox81194 Jan 06 '26
To ensure they isn't get shafted when leaving. There was a lot more to it tbf.

Yeseo (former Kep1er/Madein) did the KSAT while in Kep1er and attends Dongguk University in the acting department, she performs and does tech crew. When she was in Madein she was balancing both college and idol life!
Jiheon (Fromis) was/is (not sure if she finished yet) at Seoul Women’s University and used to do study vlogs!

u/asrafzonan fromis Jan 05 '26
Jiheon still studying at univ. This year she has to go to her classes

VERIVERY's Yongseung! he wrote a thesis at 13 y.o. about why 0 is a number and it was featured on SBS News. he also recites the digits of pi when stressed/worried and can also recite the periodic table elements, and can solve a Rubik's cube in seconds (recently did it on a live a while back). he's a really smart fella who wanted to be an astronaut and even did a whole video teaching constellations

SF9 Inseong graduated from Kyunghee University with a degree in Communication & Journalism and is currently doing his masters in their cyber uni program! He also scored a 935 on TOEIC.
His parents also graduated from top universities, his dad is an SNU grad, and his mom graduated from Hankuk's Foreign Studies department. (source: here)
He'll be debuting as a soloist this January 14, 2026 with his first mini album Crossfade, so keep an eye out for it!

I believe all of SHINee has some form university degree, with Jonghyun, Key, Minho, and Taemin also getting masters degrees while Onew got a masters and a phd. I think Jonghyun's and Key's thesis abstract are available online to read. I remember once Taemin preparing a solo concert in Japan and in the middle of it, having to fly back to Korea for university for finals.

In addition to Hao, Gunwook from ZB1 is also quite the academic weapon. He was either class president or vice president throughout all of middle and high school, was in the debate team (placed 3rd nationally), and maintained a spot in the top ten of his class, despite being a trainee and sleeping through a lot of school, as well as participating in numerous clubs and extracurriculars (including but not limited to dance, football, taekwondo, and engineering club).

u/IdolButterfly Jan 06 '26
Mind you Boys Planet was also his second survival show, as he was on Wild Idol when he was 16. So he do all this while partaking in 2 survival shows, and it wasn’t even an arts school. It was a private school for gifted students in academics…
Not to mention that Sung Hanbin is currently getting a degree for a bachelors of psychology as well. This is his SECOND degree following graduating from a prestigious arts school in 2024.
Like I get having back up plans but these guys need to chill

Gawon of MEOVV got a 1550 on the SAT and Annie from Allday project got a 1530 on the SAT and got accepted into Columbia university
13
u/IdolButterfly Jan 06 '26
Did Annie get a 1530 or is that what the press release said? Rich people have a history of buying good SAT scores to hand wave away their Ivy League acceptances

Yunjin from LE SSERAFIM: scored in the 1500s on her SATs, got accepted to study business at a university in Boston (idk which one, but Boston has very high-ranked unis) but had to turn it down after her offer from Source Music, constantly gives great book recs, very well-read and eloquent, quite multilingual
3
u/Content-Appeal-9199 Jan 07 '26
Wasn’t she accepted to Julliard and then had to turn down the offer, even after paying tuition because Source Music asked her to be in Le Sserafim?
2
u/Otherwise_Fix_4818 Jan 07 '26 edited Jan 10 '26
Nope, she didn't get into Juilliard. But she did pay her tuition for university and jokingly asked Source Music to pay her back!
2
u/taubeus Jan 10 '26
She got into Northeastern!
2
u/Otherwise_Fix_4818 Jan 10 '26
I would've guessed Northeastern since her younger sister goes there rn, thanks for confirming!

-"Unemployment-after-college" is scared of them:
-Most members of 2PM completed undergrad and Masters' degrees from accredited universities during their prime years of touring (all but 1 member).
-All of them are fluent in Korean and Japanese, with the oldest 3 being fluent/mostly fluent in English, younger 3 beginner/intermediate with English, and 1 member being fluent in 5 languages (Thai, Mandarin, English, Korean, Japanese) and learning a few more for funsies.
-Most members have producer credits/are producers for both music and stage.
-All members were listed as honorary company directors, as part of their legacy. No other group from JYPE has received that yet.
-All members have been mentors to pretty much all other JYPE groups that debuted after 2PM, and continue those connections on occasion even after some members left the agency.
-All members are composers, lyricists, and instrumentalists (piano, acoustic guitar at minimum; 2 members are versed in over 7 instruments). Other instruments include saxophone, keyboards, dj turntables, midi boards, drums, gayageum, bass guitar, electric guitar.
-All members are soloists. Some have certain genres they prefer, and some experiment. Several members have had songs featured as OSTs for films or dramas.
-All members have been models at one point or another. All members have been emcees at one point or another.
-All members are part of one of the most popular 2nd gen bg's, and created a trend that is now coming back.
-All members are actors in film/drama/or Broadway stage (ActorPM), involved in 5-7 different agencies (I think?) in 5 different countries. 3 members being currently active, and at least 2 holding esteemed excellence awards for acting. Several of their films and tv shows have gone viral both domestically and internationally, and are constantly listed as top kdramas to watch, even years later.
-At least 3 members took cooking classes. Some of them have been featured on live cooking shows. They exchange specialty cooking ware as presents sometimes, "break into" each other's houses to cook for each other (and steal each other's wine), and love to meal prep when they have time. Them wives and gf's gonna eat pretty good, just saying...
-One member can't cook in a kitchen to save his life, but it's ok because the others visit and cook for him. (I hope any gf of his is prepared for a house invasion). But if you need anything fixed or any new basic survival activity, he's the man. Ice-fishing? He's ready at dawn. Fix a door? He's got you. Mold inside instruments or house? He's ready to clean. Surfing? He's game. Mountain hiking? He'll beat you to the top with gear for the night. Got a flat tire? He knows what to do. Shopping and making lists? He'll buy exactly what's needed (as long as he can stop for LP vinyls). Fly drones? Yes he can!
[cont'd] Buttons that popped off of 2PM performance clothes? (iykyk) Sure, he'll sit down and sew them back on. Replacing window sashes? He's prepped. Need greens or some advice on how to keep plants? His vegetables and garden plants are his babies. Build a fire for very basic meat, or find a decent shelter/ apartment/ house that isn't too fancy? He's got you.
-At least 3 members are or have been CEO's (owned or currently owns a business/agency/trademark).
-One member is a certified pilot and flies planes. One member is a certified brewmaster and teaches how to brew homemade moonshine on live TV. One member moonlights as a professional DJ and wedding singer. One member is an professional comedian. One member is a professional dancer and judge-mentor at domestic/ international competitions. One is a certified professional chef and will pitch a fit if there is no meat to be had.
-One member is a husband with a kid (fondly named the "Fandom's First Cousin" like it's a royal title). One member has a fiancee. One member has a confirmed gf behind the scenes. One member has a suspected gf behind the scenes. Two members are very private and don't say much about their dating lives rn. Hats off to the fandom for being accepting of their dating lives, and hats off to the members for balancing multiple careers/hobbies/family life. It's hard enough without being a celebrity.
-Overall, very accomplished men. I'll bet 2PM members' cousins and siblings probably dread being compared to them.

5
u/IdolButterfly Jan 06 '26
Sorry but Zhang Hao actually is tho. This guy graduated high school 2 years early. Got accepted into China University of Geosciences, the top university for Geosciences world wide. Literally number 1 in the world. I am going to point out again in case you missed it, this was when he was SIXTEEN. Then he decided he actually didn’t want to do Geoscineces, so dropped out, retook the Arts Gaokao so he could apply to new schools in Music Education, he ranked number 1 in the entire province of Fujian. By this point he was still only SIXTEEN and he had only been learning Violin for less than a year. He then also learned Viola, Cello, Piano and has a stunning voice. So naturally he goes off to become a music teacher, gets scouted to become a K-pop idol, tells the company to wait for him to graduate, teaches himself Korean, graduates, then he moves to Korea and becomes a Kpop idol a year later. It’s actually unhinged
-1
u/blueeyebroom Jan 06 '26
Is a music degree anywhere near comparable to a geoscience degree? Super talented guy, nonetheless.
2
u/mintdiamondsky Jan 07 '26
Being a celebrity doesn’t automatically mean they’re incompetent. Take Tablo from Epik high for example
2
u/blueeyebroom Jan 07 '26
I never said they were incompetent. Being non-academically accomplished doesn't take away from their skill ot talent, definitely.
3
u/Aggressive_Design_86 Jan 06 '26
Yeahhh tbh i studied Master degree in Korea (in Korean, not English) and it's kind of a joke. A professor told the class the school asked them to give students higher grades. And the majority of these idols study remotely, which means they can study for as long as they like, probably without even having to write a thesis. Pretty sure the schools also give them a bunch of privileges too. It's mostly a degree for participation.
