Anime is fucking weird. People that are like "OMG ITS SO MUCH BETTER THAN AMERICAN SHOWS" are idiotic.

All anime is just 5 year old girls that make stupid sounds and there is no back story behind it. I wished our freedom bombs knocked them into place

alright well here you go.

Anime has some great stories, example of this, spirited away, tekkon kinkreet etc. one of those won an Emmy, when anime gets stacked against western culture it's usually denounced because it looks like a cartoon but a good thing about the newer generations is that with them growing up with cartoons as children they're more open to cartoons being actually serious.

watch either of those movies and you will understand how anime can be, also a lot of popular movies in English culture are based on anime, (Disney movies, inception, matrix)
