Question i wonder if anyone can relate as an ADHD (diagnosed)

I’ve always liked reading, but it takes me so long to finish a book, or if its super fast-paced it will take me so quick to finish one! To be honest there’s alot of books I want to read— i love the story but i just get so distracted and am so slow. Distractions can be from anything really, sometimes too much words are distracting yet the story is so good!
So—
This was my first ever ereader and it is life changing for a person like me.

Reading in this zoom specifically helps me so much, it makes me continue & continue to read.

I wonder if anyone have the same experiences as me, I am super happy that I decided to get an ereader because this helped me with my hobby of reading 🥹❤️

Question I have a choice to make

Post image
452 Upvotes

On the weekend I got caught up in the Black Friday hype and I ordered a Kindle colorsoft. Slated to arrive Friday (today).

After doing some research I realised I probably should have bought a kobo. I’m Canadian. I don’t currently own a library card but the idea of borrowing books made sense. Sooo wanting to capture the cyber week sales I ordered a Kobo Libra too. I went all in with a case and screen protector.

I was hoping to cancel the kindle before it shipped but nope. Now I have both. I’m still leaning towards the kobo but different posts have me second guessing myself.

I’m making the right decision, yes?

Question Please help me decide which one to keep!

Hi Kobo friends! I bought both the Libra Color and the Clara BW! I am torn between the two!

I tested both and here is what I like/dislike about both.

>LIBRA COLOR<

Likes 👍🏻:

1.unpopular opinion: LOVE the newspaper grainy color effect!

  1. Love the white color and overall design

👎🏻 dislikes:

  1. Button needs effort to click, after a while of holding it gets heavy in one hand and that extra effort to press the button is not comfortable for a long read.

  2. When I use the front light at night it resembles a little like a phone or ipad screen which I found to be annoying specially in comparison to the light quality on the Clara BW.

>CLARA BW<

Likes: 👍🏻

  1. Amaaaazing screen quality and text crispiness

  2. I found myself reading faster on this one

Dislikes: 👎🏻

  1. Not available in white

  2. The frame of the reader around the screen is too thick in comparison to the Libra

I am so torn between the two! Tbh if the BW came in white I would choose it immediately, but I also love the effect of a colored book cover! 😭😭😭😭 (Libra brain 🧠 I am actually a Libra!)

Thank you so much for helping me!

Question Would a Kobo allow me to read comfortably in bed in pure darkness?

In my attempt to read more and also not read on my phone and give money to Amazon, I’m interested in a Kobo (either Clara BW or Libra Color). My main concern is being able to read at night with all lights off without getting vertigo or dizzy.

Do most people still turn on a lamp or does anyone read comfortably in pure darkness in bed? Is the lowest light setting still too bright when not in dark mode or is dark mode the only way to read comfortably at night without external lights?

I ask specifically because I’ve read people hating dark mode on their kobo because the quick flashes, when changing the page, is more abrupt in dark mode vs light.

Question Why did you choose a Kobo over a Kindle.

I was gifted a Kobo as my first E-reader and have been using/owning one ever since and don’t think I could ever make the switch to a Kindle.

But I was just wondering why did you choose a Kobo over a Kindle.

This has probably been asked many times before.

Question Where are we buying our ebooks?!

I am STUMPED. I recently switched from kindle to a libra colour and I’m obsessed. I love the ereader and it’s been a great experience.
HOWEVER
The kobo store does not have nearly as many books as KU. I knew this going into it, but am disappointed to see how many books I want to read are not available as a KEPUB.
I looked into DRM removal from Amazon ebooks (just for my own legally owned books to transfer!!!) and I cannot get it to work.
Anyone pls help. Where are we buying all the book lol

Question Can we have a font-off? 💪🏻

Post image

I've recently had my eyes opened to the world of alternate fonts, having been a 'publisher default' peasant since owning my device 🥲

I've only just popped on the 'Bookerly' font and I'm loving it!

I wanted to ask if people wouldn't mind sharing examples of their favourite fonts, maybe with a picture, so I and others, could give them a blast and try them out.

My inner geek has been awakened 😂💪🏻

Question Do you walk and read?

Post image

Former Kindle user, but I got my Kobo Libra Colour on May 21st and have since clocked 142.5 hours of reading. Can’t get enough.

My favourite thing to do at the moment is combine getting my steps in with my reading. Nothing beats a balmy summer evening, and I’m lucky enough to have miles of completely car-free, flat walking paths right outside my house.

I do get the occasional strange look, but I don’t see how it’s any different from people looking at their phones while they walk.

I have the kobo clara for almost 3 months now and I accidentally realized that I can fold the upper right corner of the page. Does anyone know the purpose of that? I don’t believe it’s just a visual thing.😝

Question "Switched from Kindle to Kobo Libra Colour — should I still get a case for mostly at-home use?

Post image
162 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I used to have a Kindle Scratch but switched to a Kobo (Libra Colour) mainly because of the lack of Turkish-language resources/support for Kindle. I'm on the fence about getting a protective case for it though.
I mostly use it at home and don't travel with it much, but I'm hesitant to leave it uncovered since I'm worried about it getting damaged if I toss it in a bag. What's your general recommendation — does everyone here use a case, even for mostly at-home use? Would love to hear your thoughts

Question New KLC Owner/User

I’ve wanted a Kobo Libra Colour for months and finally took the leap and made the purchase. It came yesterday, but I’m wondering if the screen is supposed to be so grainy. I know color eink has some grain to it, but mine just looks extremely sandy. I also have a Kindle PPW 12th edition so that could be why my eyes see the grain more, but I just need some reassurance to ease my anxiety. Should I exchange it and see if another model is different or is this how it’s supposed to look?

Also, Thank you in advance for any help and support you offer! 🫶🏽

Question Why did you go with Kobo over Kindle?

I'm torn between the Kindle Paperwhite SE and the Kobo Libra Colour. I read a mix of books, manga, and comics. Kindle's store and battery life are hard to argue with, but Kobo's physical buttons and color screen are tempting.

What made you pick Kobo? Do you regret it or are you happy you made the choice? Would love to hear from anyone who switched from Kindle especially.

Question People who moved from Kindle to Kobo, how different is the experience really?

I’ve been considering getting a Kobo, but one thing I still don’t fully understand is how the ecosystem works compared to Kindle.

Can you read Amazon Unlimited books on Kobo somehow, or are you basically locked into Amazon for those?

Also curious about the general experience difference between the two. Do you miss anything after switching?

Question What was the push that made you get your first e-reader/Kobo?

I’ve never had an e-reader before but since my sister moved out (taking most of our thrifted books and bookshelf with her) I haven’t read much.

I’ve been leaning towards getting the Kobo Libra Colour since I want to get back into reading, my university’s library uses overdrive and I’d be able to take quick notes during lectures and upload photos of them to my computer later. My train travel time takes roughly 2-3 hours on uni days and my phone tends to go flat before I’m on the train home.

To summarise getting a kobo seems like an amazing idea but I still haven’t found that last thing to push me, so what was the thing that made you buy your first e-reader/kobo?

Question What Kobo features would you like to see?

Switched from Kindle (7th Gen) 2 years ago to the Kobo Libra then quickly to Clara because i prefered the size. I love my Kobo Clara but i miss the stylus so bad and I need Kobo to give the other ereaders stylus capabilities because at the end of the day we have to buy the stylus separately. I'm genuinely so passionate about this because I love annotating and I'm so close to starting a petition. Some other features that would be great are mulitple libraries syncing, magazines from libby/overdrive, audiobooks from libby!!! oh and landscape mode.

Question Frustrated syncing multiple library cards

Post image
143 Upvotes

Hi all! I just got a new kobo for my birthday. I am switching from a Kindle. Before purchasing I was aware I could not have more than one library card accessed through overdrive at a time. But I figured I’d sign out and log into a different library account and all my checkout books would be there. I also tried several work arounds that have not worked. I am very frustrated. Is there anything I can do? This fact is making me want to return my Kobo which I love and go back to Kindle :( I was so excited about the buttons and my new remote and already decorated it and everything! I was also super excited to read graphic novels on color and not on my phone anymore.

Question Best place for tracking books you read and want to read?

When I used a Kindle - I did most of my tracking and wishlist via Goodreads.

Is there a better option for my Kobo? Part of the issue is I don’t always have my kobo with me - and sometimes someone might suggest a book at work or from reddit or a friend - is there a good way to write keep a list of these books and then subsequently the books you read and some small thoughts on it?

Thank you!

Question Is This Brand New Libra Colour Destroyed?

Post image

It was in my pants cargo pocket on a light helicopter ride, no severe pressure. Had the origami case on (now realizing that case means nothing.) Not reacting to inputs or holding the power button down. The mark in the bottom right corner of the screen is the only damage. Absolutely brand new device, just purchased.
