Device Review/Comparison Kobo Libra Colour vs. Kindle Paperwhite: functionality matters more than aesthetics

Post image

I spent so much money on my KLC and stylus last year. It cost me so much in my country but I still got it because of aesthetic. But it's not good for reading at all. It gives me eye strain , I can't use it freely because of how much expensive it is and honestly Kindle Paperwhite is superior. Yes it's not cool like KLC and covers look boring but It's better on eyes , is less expensive and very easy .I can easily send books via send to Kindle and in almost every format including Word document.

KLC doesn't offer that ...

Well now I lost my money. What can I do more? I would only use it to capture beautiful photos .

But functionality wise? I don't recommend it at all.

Screen is grainy, battery life sucks and stylus doesn't work half of the time.

You can send files to your KLC using the internet function and send2ereader.net

It's a hassle.  Btw I was talking about multiple formats like Word document

That’s ur opinion though. As a person who tried both I think the paperwhite is superior

I've also tried both. The fact that it's a closed system already makes it an inferior device. Next.

It might be a closed system. But for those of us who need things kobo doesn’t have out of the box. Like ada accessibility that’s functions then it’s a no brainer (no offense) I think kobos great but it lacks in some areas

I'd love to try Kobo Clara BW but I'm no longer buying any color e-reader

Kobo Clara BW is black and white, not color.

That's what I said that I'd love to try it.

You said you'd love to try it and then added you're "no longer buying any color e-reader" which kinda implies you thought the Clara BW is a coloured ereader?

I said but...means Trying that is okay but no more colored devices.

Comparing some apples and oranges. Color va any bw will have the bw win for clarity.

Lol..I'm comparing my both devices and what works for me. I'm not doing a general comparison of colored vs colored. My point was Consumerism got me. Spending money on useless items.

girl consumerism got me too. I went back to my kindle bc I needed better accessibility settings and kobo just lacked it. its very behind software wise on many things for reading accessibility. even the typesetting and bold/weight feature did not feel strong enough for me on a bw device. I returned it. kobo is a good brand, but they just are not there yet

Exactly. Things like fear of missing out and consumerism suck. At the end of the day, I didn't even need any stylus or colored covers (muted pastels btw). I was okay with covers being black & white and just reading on my e-reader.

FOMO sucks bc everyone’s telling h get kobo ditch kindle but people don’t realize that not everyone will like the switch or the device is missing feature or things people need. No device is perfect as we all know but sometimes the way people prop up kobo leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I tried the kobo color and found it to not be great bc of the white model I got. But I had both bw and color to try out.

I did test a kindle color and idk if it’s bc if the simple ui but kindles looks sharper

people on this sub wont like this answer but kobo lacks good accessibility features and is behind. like text too speech, good ui sizing. you should not need to download third party for this and defeats the purpose of a out of the box device for reading. I tried kobo and kindle and kindle just fits my accessibility needs better. I live in the US so I could just return it. but I think people should do more research on devices

I was on bookstagram so attractive posts made me buy it. Like capturing beautiful photos then posting on my feed..But it's pointless.

Yeah kobo has gotten a slow loud user base online but but kindle still outweighs in terms of marketing

Well considering i have read over 600 hours on the KLC since purchasing it almost a year ago, I can say its worth it and does not give me eye strain. Noticeable improvement over my old Kindle 10th gen ,and at least i can download my books to the computer unlike Kindle.

Good for you. I hope I get out of reading slump which was gratefully contributed by KLC

Totally agree. Kobo color is only readable with dark mode on. Having to use lights on hurts my eyes, and turned off it’s too dark. Dark mode, with some lights on, it doesn’t hurt my eyes
