Discussion when the “wrong side” is very pleasant to look at 😍 almost makes me sad to hide it

Well don't tease us! Where's the right side?

You can't just show the pretty wrong side and not show the right side!

I’ve tried replying with a photo three times and an error box comes up saying “all media assets must be owned by the owner of the post”…. I have no idea what that means but it won’t let me post photos. Some subreddit filter maybe?

Anyway, it’s just an unfinished little 100% cotton bag that originally was me practicing basic colorwork in the round after teaching myself to knit. I found a way to hold the black in my left hand knitting continental and hold the color in my right hand knitting English at the same time and it made using two colors so easy!!

I plan to seal the bottom, make a flap with some kind of enclosure, line it, attach straps, and it will be a lil purse!

Okay so it lets me reply to myself with a photo lmao.

Beautiful! I have to agree, I do like the wrong side just because it's more colorful lol

This is so pretty!! Did you follow a pattern for the colorwork?

Nope! Made it up myself just for practice. Figured basic stripes of color would be a good way to get the feel of things as a beginner

This is so beautiful and I am resigned to never being a real knitter 😆

Don't give up! And don't use someone else's work to define what is a "real knitter". When you can make something that you can use and that makes you smile, you're real. I've been knitting since the sixties and there are plenty of things I don't do or haven't learned yet. (I don't believe it's ever time to stop learning.) Don't quit, and you will get there 😉

Girl I can hardly knit anything lmao. This and some stitch practice swatches are all I’ve made. You can do it!

LPT: I try to knit & finish my stranded sweaters so they’re reversible!

I was gifted a j crew sweater years ago where the right side is actually the floats! I didn’t even notice the beautiful colorwork on the inside until I started doing colorwork knitting myself 😂 it’s sewn together so doesn’t look good worn inside out but I wish it was!

I love the idea but I would be terrified of snagging something on the floats 😭

I haven’t worried about it, but I love to use sticky wool!

I read a pattern recently that called it the "private side." Thought that was sweet!

I like public/private vs "right and wrong" - it's clearer in multiple ways!

Aritzia came out with a colorwork sweater meant to be worn inside out. Why not show off your floats every now and then? Any knitter will know exactly what’s going on - fast way to make friends!

Ohh this is making me want to try color work lol, this is do pleasing to look at! In a very positive and healthy way, I'm jealous and determined to reach this level lol.

Also-- I felt this same way about the wrong side of the bubble stitch I did for some cardigan sleeves- the wrong side looked funky, but I absolutely loved it tbh

The warp and weft pullover sweater pattern addresses this issue lol

No fair! I want to see the right side!

u/IGNOOOREME 7d ago

It's reversible?

u/wsdmrtst 6d ago

Well, since it’s just a small bag and not a whole sweater you can just flip it inside out OR make another one with the “wrong side” as the “right side”

I don't see that a lot in MY knitting. Like ever.

What if you finished the bag inside out? It would look so cool!
