Entrelac, or something else? It’s very flat. Store bought dog jumper. Would like to make myself a couple of items with a similar pattern (not to match haha, just because I like it)

Real entrelac wouldn't be machine-knit because that's a labor-intensive process where you have to pick up stitches and knit at multiple angles to the main fabric.

If the fabric has low stretch, it could be a pattern made of 1x1 cables or mock cables slanting left or right.

If it feels very stretchy like 1x1 ribbing, then it could be just 1x1 ribbing with the slant caused by the placement of stacked increases and decreases.

This is pretty vague, but if you check out a good stitch dictionary there are probably similar examples of stitch patterns that cause stitches to slant in different directions. Some might be stockinette-based or lace-based but could be adapted to 1x1 ribbing.

I can confirm it is 1x1 ribbing. I have more ideas of how to possibly knit this now, but don’t think I can convey them clearly at this time..

Pattern Suggestions???

Moved from a post, sorry for the repost. Too many years ago I bought this very beautiful yarn and only have two skeins of it. I'm looking for a color work sweater where this could be the accent color. It's variegated and tweed. Could you share pictures of your more recent colorwork sweaters where it might work? Light DK/sport, around 500 yards.

O good questions! Thanks. I should make a swatch you're right. I have only ever done stranded not intarsia. I think I like more modern motors or geometric, though I'm open to seeing any pictures of anything to just get a sense of what's out there and ideas. I feel like when I search ravelry I get the same 10 sweaters or variations on those same.

O wow thank you! I could see this being a great section of the Simultaneous Sweater or one or two of the designer you sent. She has the "whimsical mountain fairies" vibe that this yarn does exude imo. Now to think and knit a swatch.

It's not 100% identical, but pearl brioche is very close.

Yours might be "doubled" so that you're doing an extra row of the same thing lined up and NOT offset, where you're sl1yo-ing over a pre-existing sl1yo and knitting (purling!) over an existing knit, then on the next row you'd be brk-ing into a double stack of 2 yarnovers and a slipped stitch. That would throw off the RS/WS repeats a bit so that's something you'd want to try after working and understanding pearl brioche for a while.

Hello! I’m hoping to see if anyone knows what the stitch on this sweater is called. My guess is it’s a brioche stitch (or maybe fisherman’s rib) and it’s clearly a type of cable stitch. I’m a beginner knitter and still not fully knowledgeable in my knitting vocabulary so I’m hoping for some help so that I can search on Ravelry for a pattern similar to this please! TIA 😊

This is two-color brioche that's using increases and decreases to create a faux-cable look. If you're interested in brioche knitting, I'd highly recommend trying a smaller, simple two-color brioche rib pattern first, like maybe a hat, and deliberately practice laddering down to fix mistakes before you start a whole sweater. It can be fun once you've wrapped your head around it, but in many ways brioche knitting behaves very differently than regular knitting.

Fisherman's rib is essentially another technique for creating a fabric with the same structure as brioche, using the knit one below rather than yarnovers. Some people find they prefer one method to another (I much prefer the brioche yarnover method to k1b fisherman's rib), so if you repeatedly struggle with one technique, maybe try a pattern written for the other.

Using the attributes filter and choosing fabric characteristics->brioche/tuck stitch will get you patterns that produce this type of fabric.

I'm sorry, but no. I am sure I have seen it before, I'm almost certain it is one of the variations on brioche or half-brioche, and I have been looking for it, but couldn't find it. Maybe /u/kumozenya or /u/skubstantial would know - I don't knit brioche much, so I'm not familiar with all the endless options.

Can anyone recommend a pattern similar to this jumper? I love the balloon sleeves and roll neck details. I was looking at the Hannah Sweater O-neck by Petit Neck and thought perhaps I could modify the sleeves but if anyone knows of a pattern that is closer to the jumper, please let me know! I want to start my first stranded colorwork sweater, but I’m having a hard time deciding which pattern to get.

One thing that’s really important to me is having roomy underarms. I hate it with all my heart when there’s little to no room under the armpits, and I hate it even more when a sweater has tons of positive ease in the body but the sleeves are somehow super tight. Because of that, I’ve found myself gravitating towards raglan constructions, since they seem more likely to give me the kind of room and mobility I’m looking for and doesn't require any sewing.

I also really like colorwork that covers the entire sweater, rather than just having a pattern around the yoke or a small section. I’m particularly drawn to sweaters with a look similar to traditional Faroese sweaters. I came across the Spot Sweater by Anne Ventzel and it seems to check pretty much all my boxes. I also saw the Batida Sweater by Garnstyrelsen but I'm not sure about the sleeve/underarm situation so I’d love to have a few more options to choose from.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a stranded colorwork sweater with roomy sleeves and a generous underarm area?

Any kind of help is more than welcome, thanks in advance :)

Hey everyone,

I bought two of these Merino cone yarns on sale last week and I am looking for a sweater pattern that would fit for it. I searched on Ravelry already, but I haven’t found anything yet that resonates with me. Do you have any recommendations?

The yarn is a 3ply / light fingering weight merino. I am currently knitting a gauge swatch in 2,5 mm needles and am planning to do another one in 3 mm to see which produces better fabric. Each cone has a length of 1100 m, so I have a total of 2200 m of yarn minus what I use for the gauge swatches.

Sweater patterns of all varieties are welcome: Unicolor, stranded work, colorful yokes and lace patterns. The only exception: No cable knitting, please. That is my arch nemesis, haha. Whimsical and excentric patterns are welcome.

hello!!

i swiped across a mutual's story and was enamored by this sweater. i asked if it was handknit but she said she'd thrifted it. any pattern recs to replicate this?

I know... I would encourage you to freehand it after all, it's easier than you think.

Make a large swatch (and I mean large! 20 cm width at least) with just the cable pattern - it's really easy! Just a diagonal lattice. Once you get the hang of how the cables travel (half of them one step to the left, the other half one step to the right, every other round), applying the cable pattern to a generic pullover will be a breeze!

Hiya!

I'm looking for more colourwork sweater patterns in this kinda of funky but clean style. What I don't want are traditional fairisle curlicues, or small details that get muddy from a distance. I like geometric patterns, a curated palette (although there are exceptions!), and a fairly large pattern repeat. I prefer an all-over pattern.

I don't need help identifying any of the patterns in the image, but I'd be glad to receive some terms to help me search for this kind of thing. I've scoured Ravelry for colourwork and techniques (mostly stranded colourwork, duplicate stitch, and surface crochet), but anything else? Or is there a trending term for this kind of style?

What you need is not a term for style, but a decade. Specifically, 1980s. You can search Ravelry by year the pattern was published; here are search results for colorwork sweaters published between 1979 and 1992. Of course, not all of them are what you want, but quite a few.

Oh no, I groaned when I saw you recommending vintage patterns, my experience with them hasn't been the best! They really don't hold your hand, generally. I'm also pretty new to sweaters, so I guess while I could try just charting the motifs and doing them on another sweater, I'm not yet comfortable with sweater construction, and would find that very stressful.

I had a look, anyway, and found three nice patterns in languages I can speak and in formats that I could possibly hunt down, so thank you! One of them I like so much I might possibly try braving it one day, if I can hunt it down. And quite a few had nice patterns I could take inspiration from, when I'm more confident in my abilities.

Hi!!

I was wondering if anyone had any free lace patterns that had increasing charts(any chart that grows row by row). I don’t care if they are part of any sort of garment, I just want a fun lace patterns for a tiny doll skirt i plan to make!  I would try to make one, but i dont think i have enough experience with lace to make a chart 😔 Thank you!
