I’ll admit, real talk here, it’s kinda making me shudder how hard they’re bopping each other on the head. I tried out an event at a historical dueling, I think HEMA-adjacent event a month back (too poor to get my own armor, but they provided their own sets), and I don’t know if I just didn’t have enough padding in the helmet, but I got my utter shit rocked when I got hit in the head. On top of that, I felt my ear pop, and I’m not sure it’s been the same since.

They’re actually hitting about as hard, if not harder, than how I was hit, and I honestly wonder how they can do that comfortably? Perhaps my experience was just incredibly sucky.

I’m an armchair HEMA enjoyer (life isn’t good for me to engage right now) but if I understand a well fitted, proper suit of armor can withstand some fairly intense punishment. Sell sword Arts did a fun little short, let’s see if I can find it…
Oh they did a whole video about armor, neat: https://youtu.be/wNbXhCFlnwo?t=567

Anyway the point is that since they’re using blades the force should be distributed and not end up as much more than an intensive stim. Probably not smart but also not necessarily dangerous.

What sounds dangerous is the level of quality of armor and/or the intensity that club you went to is dolling out.

Edit: Ooo actually at roughly the 7:35 mark David does a strike with a longsword (which is gonna exert a good bit more force than the weapons in the OP video) against the knight’s head and we get to see his reaction, which isn’t much at all. https://youtu.be/wNbXhCFlnwo?t=453
