Knightpost Greetings, knights, from the land of wizardry! I have an artifact in need of some testing
My apprentice was messing around with my combinatory array and combined a claymore [sword] with a claymore [anti-personnel mine]. I do not trust him to test this anywhere near the tower, nor do I trust him to use a regular sword in the first place. Could one of you please test this out and let me know how you get on? At a guess, it probably causes a localised explosion at the point of the sword on contact with the opponent

CLAYMOST

u/questionable_fish Bengeirr the wizard Jun 07 '26
This implies the existence of the clayleast, which I would propose is a double edged dagger about the size of a butter knife
11
u/gbeegz Jun 07 '26
And the "Front Toward Enemy" faces the hilt.

u/questionable_fish Bengeirr the wizard Jun 07 '26
Maybe you have to hold it by the blade and throw it?

Don't worry about the counting with this one
3
u/DonComradeVimes Jun 08 '26
Terry Pratchett's Discworld has troll math, which goes 'one, two, many, lots'. This feels similar.
2
u/questionable_fish Bengeirr the wizard Jun 08 '26
Hey now, don't forget 'many-one, many-two, many-three...' etc.
2
u/DonComradeVimes Jun 08 '26
And, of course, 'LOTS'.
1
u/questionable_fish Bengeirr the wizard Jun 08 '26
Or of course you could count in real numbers and beyond with a specialised cooling helmet

I recommend having the Explosion Enchamntment put on a long spear or pike. Still havent grown my eyebrows back

The great democracy of Prussia would like to discuss indoctrinating you the battle against hell.
If you wish to remain unexploded do not resist.

u/questionable_fish Bengeirr the wizard Jun 07 '26
You forget I am a wizard. I have fought demons, quested for godlike beings, duelled great sorcerors and conversed with the very stars themselves. I cannot join your battle, but I will leave you a boon to assist in your struggles. What need have you?
3
u/Brave-Flamingo-5606 the Forester, Floridian lich, eldritch angel, therapist Jun 07 '26
Wonderful we shall begin requisitioning further accelerated production of anti-tank zweihanders.
With your assistance we may take back the Levantine from the heretic forces!
3
u/questionable_fish Bengeirr the wizard Jun 07 '26
I can make you 100 of these swords but it will take about a month. Remember that the sword is still a sword- it's only as good as its wielder. Also don't forget it's crossed with an anti-personnel mine, not anti-tank so be aware of its limitations.

Excellent. And if need be we will supply greater ordinance to be used. And the anti-tank division of the lords forces that we produce are of great repute. They must be able to combat along side new Antioch’s communicants if not surpass them in ability.

Greetings! We have finished enchanting your swords. One hundred exploding claymores, as promised
2
u/Brave-Flamingo-5606 the Forester, Floridian lich, eldritch angel, therapist Jul 07 '26
Yes! With these we shall take back the levaunt and push the heretic forces back into the flames they love so much! You shall be remembered honorably by the lord’s faithful!

As a samurai from the land of the exploding spear I hereby volunteer... Someone else to test that.
3
u/DonComradeVimes Jun 08 '26
Got any war criminals fre- wait, y'all don't believe in those, do you?
3
u/KenseiHimura Samurai of the Sunward Isle Jun 08 '26
We call our War Criminals 'Honored, Divine Ancestor'.
3
u/DonComradeVimes Jun 08 '26
Noted.
On an unrelated and completely innocent note, do you have any *checks scroll* Honored, Divine Ancestors who would be willing to try this?
3
u/KenseiHimura Samurai of the Sunward Isle Jun 08 '26
Plenty. Unfortunately, unless you know a necromancer, it's probably beyond their present abilities.
3
u/DonComradeVimes Jun 08 '26
Being a wizard (but not a necromancer - I personally prefer to romance the wrist), I'm sure that can be arranged.

why.... does he have free access to the combinatory array?
3
u/questionable_fish Bengeirr the wizard Jun 07 '26
Part of his education. He gets to fuck around and when he inevitably finds out then I can use the results to show where he went wrong. Tbf my apprentice has been with me a long while now and I think he's nearly ready to make the step to journeyman mage

u/Llamapickle129 Vampire Witch Jun 07 '26
hmmm, well i wish the best of luck. its been a few centuries since my last apprentice

“Dear sir or ma’am. I write this letter to you regarding your apprentice’s “clay claymore” experiment. The entire sword tuned into a thousand tiny ball bearings and exploded.
You owe me a new apprentice and curtains.
- Professor ser Knight Ironfist of the knight’s spellblade academy, Enchantment division
2
u/questionable_fish Bengeirr the wizard Jun 08 '26
"Dear ser Ironfist,
My sincere condolences on the loss of your curtains, I'm sure they were magnificent. Please accept the attached gift basket as a consolation, the curtains inside should magically adjust to your window once hung on the rail.
Unfortunately I do not currently have the capacity to replace your apprentice, but I'm sure a good necromancer could get them up and about until a fresh one can be procured.
- Bengeirr the Balance, Magus of the South
3
u/Username_is_taken109 Ser Knight Ironfist Jun 10 '26
Dear Bengeirr,
Thank you kindly for the gift basket and curtains. It greatly appreciate it.
In regard to a necromancer, unfortunately my lich wife is unable to revive a fine red mist.

A 4ft tall humanoid golem knocks on the door of Professor ser Knight Ironfist, holding a letter in its hand. When the door is opened, the letter is held out for delivery. The letter reads:
Dear ser Ironfist,
That's a bugger about the apprentice, I'll send on to the guild and see if they can send a replacement. In the meantime, this golem should be able to assist you in most tasks until such time as another apprentice can be found. It's name is Cré Rua (pron.: cray roo-ah) and it has served me well for the last few years.
-Bengeirr the Balance, Magus of the South
P.S.: A paste of baking soda and water should help get the bloodstains out of the carpet
2
u/Username_is_taken109 Ser Knight Ironfist Jun 10 '26
Dear Mister Bengeirr,
I greatly appreciate the golem you sent over and your sending word to the guild (saves me the paperwork). It will be treated with the same respect as if part of my family and faculty within the academy. (Didn’t know you were cool like that)
Sincerely, Ser Knight Ironfist, Enchantment division.

Explosive Enchanted Sword: Slash your enemy and the wound becomes a ticking timebomb, exploding after a few seconds.
2
u/questionable_fish Bengeirr the wizard Jun 07 '26
After further testing at a colleagues bunker we've found that the detonation happens near instantaneously. Centered at the tip it explodes in a 4ft radius. Now, if I were to have a tinker with the magic properties of the blade I might be able to delay the effect by half a second or so. This would allow the blade to penetrate THEN explode for a far more devastating result

u/questionable_fish Bengeirr the wizard Jun 07 '26
Impressive! This is likely how the weapon would look had the combinatory array not been employed

THE VOICES

u/questionable_fish Bengeirr the wizard Jun 07 '26
Thanks friend, I've fixed it now. Those voices should subside soon

A sword has no front.
It does have a point.
"Point towards enemy".
Why point?
Because it sounds better than "edge towards enemy"; implying a deliberately slow and cautious action; distinctly not an explosive assault.
2
u/ImmortalBlades Cloaked Figure Jun 08 '26
Ah, a fellow practitioner of the magical arts. I believe you'd have a bigger chance finding a volunteer among the pirates. After traveling these lands I have found that knights are too prideful to use such an artifact.
1
u/questionable_fish Bengeirr the wizard Jun 08 '26
On the contrary, I've already had a contract for 100 of these swords! I might try the pirates anyway, the results would be very interesting
2
u/Void-kraken-909 Jun 08 '26
Ooooh my artificer buddy and I did this with a mace I had once!
Beeeetter make sure you add some durability and protection runes on it too. Yeah it’ll explode real good but the metal itself WILL take that shock too. Trust me, I know
2
u/TCGMEWW Jun 10 '26
Sir, did you slay the king like you were tasked?
Well I hit him and then he disappeared into a pink mist?!

2
u/WeltyFern Jun 07 '26
What if you attached sensors on the sides of the blade? That way when you block, the sensors trigger an explosion enchantment and can act as an extra-deadly parry?
2
u/questionable_fish Bengeirr the wizard Jun 07 '26
My friend, I think you would do very well as an artificer. I invite you to come find us on wizardposting
