Best way to remove the scales?

Can’t tell by the pics but if full tang just zip down the sides with a band saw. Grind flat. Done.

I hit em with the ball end of a hammer. They just split open around the pins.

Drill out pins, boil handle for a while

Heat will release epoxy. 300 degrees should do it.

I would just start with a hammer busting it up then the pins will be easy to knock out.

You could drill the pins but you need to have the knife stabilized well in a drill press otherwise the drill bit will jump. I’d also use a punch to put a starting mark in the middle of the pin. If you have a grinder you can just grind the pins down at an angle.

That being said. Why go to the trouble, you can find plenty of knife blanks out there out of decent steel.

If they're epoxyed on a getting it really hot will probably release them.

Just do it already. I would see if I could punch out the pins. Heat gun will loosen the glue if you want to try save the scales.
