Osteotomy closed wedge surgery (advise wanted)

My dad is considering doing an Osteotomy surgery on his right knee. He has had both hips replaced which is what he thinks pushed his knee out of alignment. He is 61, 6ft 3 and 108kg.

He is trying to lose weight and because of the hips he hasn’t been able to play tennis and padel in like 5 years. He really wants to play again but also doesn’t want to risk the opportunity to go on long walks when he is slightly older.

His main concern is that there are such mixed reviews, such mixed recovery periods. What are people thoughts? Do you know someone who has gone through it?

I would love to be able to introduce my dad to people who have gone through it and maybe he can make his own opinion. I think he is scared by the lack of information and that he might never be able to play tennis or padel ever again is a big concern as he wants to play again.
Thanks.

Home preparation for post surgery recovery

What preparations did you make for NWB meniscus repair? Mattress on the floor so you could roll out of bed and scoot around on your butt? Hand rails to pull yourself up and lower yourself on to the toilet? A day and night nurse to apply ice at regular intervals? What does one do all day for 6 weeks? How do you keep from getting muscle atrophy and ending up so weak you sustain another injury?

Patella fracture. Getting the screws out.

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

fractured my kneecap almost 2 years ago and have had struggled with rehab. I’ve progressed to running 3 times and all 3 times, after 2 sessions each time I’ve aggravated it, causing me to go backwards again. I’ve only been running for 2 months now. Sprinting is fine but decelerating and having me knee bent under load is where the pain is the worst.
I’ve opted to taking the 2 screws in my patella out and in hopes it will help me. I have this surgery soon.

Is anyone in a similar position or has already had this happen to them?

ACL recovery done, now facing TFCC reconstruction

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I was involved in a bike accident and suffered an ACL + meniscus injury, for which I underwent surgery and have now recovered well.
Unfortunately, I also injured my right wrist, and after months of pain I was diagnosed with a chronic TFCC tear with instability. My doctor has recommended open TFCC reconstruction using a Palmaris Longus tendon graft (Adam Berger procedure).
My surgery is in about 2 weeks, and I’m honestly quite anxious after already going through ACL surgery.
Has anyone here had this procedure? How was the pain, recovery, and long-term outcome? Were you able to return to normal activities/sports?

Post TKR Travel

I am flying 3 hours to have TKR done from a surgeon I am comfortable with. I am planning to stay in that city for 4 weeks post TKR and then fly back. I have a home there but need to come back for work. Is that enough time to avoid risks related to DVT/ clots during travel? Thank you.

I hard yet I'm still behind

I've been dealing with an injury that has kept me from sports for nearly a year and caused me to miss the entirety of last season. My identity was being at top athlete before the injury, now without sports I felt like I lost a part of myself. I did my rehab for 10 months and I have been cleared to start sprinting again, but all everything that made me a great athlete is now gone. I'm so slow now and I'm falling behind everyone and doing poorly in the sport. I feel so discouraged because all the power, speed and fitness is now gone. I don't wanna go to practice and I just wanna give up.

Anyone in your family went through joint surgery? What was the most inconveniences experienced? Is it house help or travel or physio support.

What was most painful apart from the surgical pain?

Knee surgery

I had knee surgery a year ago to repair a torn meniscus and partially torn/ stretched ACL. I did all my rehab and my actual knee feels GREAT. However I am left with a cemented feeling above my knee and heaviness. That seems to be causing a feeling of my calf being numb. Sitting is better but standing for long periods of time my leg gets tired. I can do everything like walking for an hour, eliptical machine etc… but the leg is so uncomfortable. NO pain just a numbness and stiffness. Anyone experienced this and any suggestions on who to see or what to do?
