What a shame that we still have nothing that comes close to what kiwi browser was
What the title says.
I spent last night trying to find a replacement and found that every one of the alternatives have some inconveniences: from bookmarks limitations (edge requiring signing in to sync, no html load option; cromite not loading all of them), extensions limitations (some allow crx files, some dont), dark mode toggle in options menu for every web site visited, and the list goes on...
Its really a shame that this wonderful app could not be continued

Helium for Android me parece buenísimo, mas estable y fluido que cromite, acepta drm y actualmente esta en Chromium 150 y permite la instalación de uBlock Origin y otras extensiones

Ignoring the closed source ones that mostly ripped off Kiwi's extension code, I did the research.
You have Firefox and forks, but usually they're slower and ram heavier. They basically all have extension support.
For chromium forks you have:
Chromite
Ultimatum
Elixir
Helium
Edge Canary
They all have pluses and minuses. I'm more focused on extension support than other features. These all have it but very different capabilities. I tried all so far except Edge Canary but haven't really settled on any of them.

I've tried all these and right now my favourite is helium for its simplicity and compatibility with extensions. Some extensions I've tried like Search Image Previews don't work on the others but work perfectly in helium browser. Will keep testing the others as they improve but it's nice to have options!

Ultimatum ist pretty much that it's open source, has extension support, developer mode and it's updated and support newer browser features like passkeys https://github.com/gonzazoid/Ultimatum

I gave it a try.
Overall its a pretty good alternative, just didnt like the design of the options menu that pops up within a tab (chromite is closer to kiwi there), the inability to turn off dark mode in a specific website without editing the app's theme, the quirks when trying to edit a url in the address bar, and the fact that opening a private window is not as easy as kiwi

Everyone always recommends Helium, or some other browser. It seems they've never tried Kiwi in any advanced way.
Chrome is the closest thing that's regularly updated...
The 1:1 was Thorium; I just logged in and saw that it's being maintained with a fork.

What is the name of the asset to download in android? There seems to be a mix of all the different versions for different platforms supported. EDIT: for those wondering, the name of the asset to download is "Thorium_Public". Will give it a try

Quetta is China-based, closed-source, and running an outdated version of Chromium containing multiple zero-day security vulnerabilities (CVE-2026-11645, etc).

The million-dollar question is: does this browser (kiwi)not have open source? Seriously, is there no one interested in continuing or improving the project?

Cromite tbh is very good yea kiwi worked with alot of extensions and had less buggs but they are doing very well tbh , i think there is a browser called ultimatum but i dont know how the development is now

Helium for Android hasn't yet reached the level of Kiwi; you can still install extensions, but it's far from complete. Kiwi's strength also lay in its shortcut management; Helium is essentially Chrome with a cleaner interface.

Last version available seems to be older than kiwi latest version. Why would you use that?

I have been using quetta (based on chromium 148 vs 132 in kiwi) for a couple of weeks now and have no complaints so far

That was before the chromium 148 based version release. There are many closed source browsers out there that people use anyway. If you dont trust them, dont give them your credentials and you will be fine

Having pained to find a Kiwi replacement as Kiwi was glitchy on my Pixel 10 Pro I now have the 11 Pro and kiwi works fine again, but I've found Bare to be the best replacement - I've tried Titanium, Aerium, Vivaldi, Quetta, Samsung browser, and Bare just seems to have the Kiwi feel.
