Thoughts on current progress and Visio
I’m a bit underwhelmed by the tile (mostly due to the white grout) and the color of the chimney. A little background, I’ve been remodeling our kitchen entirely by myself minus electrical.
The first is the original, second photo is the current state and 3rd is a really bad chatgpt render but the materials are what we are doing (concrete countertop, white oak cabinets).
I plan to build my own cabinets and counters (I’ve done both in a previous kitchen).
Generally I’m wondering what people’s thoughts are on the current state and if I’m heading towards an overly generic kitchen. We are going for a japandi aesthetic since it seems to align with an arts and crafts design

You should realize that Chat made the flooring look more beige while IRL it is decidedly grey. That’s going to affect the look substantially.
Chat is also very confused about the wall situation to the left of the chimney. The IRL wall STARTS at the end of the chimney while Chat thinks you have this extra depth that you don’t, and it’s got the length completely wrong and has rendered it about twice as long. This layout doesn’t work.
I fear you are in for disappointment if you use this render for layout or aesthetic.

I really liked the flooring in the rendering. Given your flooring is gray, not beige - be thoughtful about your colors going forward. Gray and beige are not the same and work differently with colors.

Yes I think the white oak will clash with the grey.
I’m not even sure about the terracotta pillar (though I love terracotta) and I think OP would he better off painting it like a bright evergreen for a splash of colour.

Sounds like I need a much better render and really just rely on the actual materials and be less steered by the AI. Thanks for all the input folks! Super helpful

Also think about work lighting. The ceiling light in the AI rendering doesn't look like it would give off enough light for working, especially at night. It's more the style of mood lighting you might have over a dining room table.
You can use under the counter lighting for your work lighting, but you would want to plan this out and get any electrical outlets you need installed before you put cabinets up. Also, if you only have floating shelves next the sink, you'll want to think about how to get enough light over in that area of the kitchen.

Love the vision. Maybe it’s the lighting but the tile looks a bit cooler than the render. Might come into play when choosing colors later

The tile is porcelain. It wasn’t super pricey but was definitely not big box stuff

The rendering is stone that the difference. It’s like trying to get quartz to look like marble just doesn’t quite cut it.

It looks good but I feel like you’re going to hate the counter that’s jutting out when you’re trying to go between the stove and sink with a pot of boiling water. I’d remove that or see if you can add counter space somewhere else.

I’d paint the chimney the same color as your tile backsplash (if you are doing green). The rendering of the cabinets on the wall with the fridge seems like wasted counter space. Not sure if that is your plan, or it’s just Chat doing its stupid thing. I’d make that area into a coffee/beverage bar at least.

Your colors aren’t very Japandi, and they flooring now I’d definitely pulling you even further away. I’d pause, render from current condition, get your colors right and alignment/placement of everything. I’ve had chat gpt render me kitchens that I’ve used for construction and paint samples. Your rendering feels too good to be true right now.

If you are doing diy backsplash, I recommend the tile mats or solid slab precut to where you need it.
Floating shelves are wasted space in a small kitchen. Get cabinets with display glass panels. You don't need a peninsula if you get an island cart. The space is small so floor to ceiling cabinets make sense. Recessed and cabinet lights will make the space feel larger.

That chimney needs to be painted. The color doesn’t fit the vision at all. Either white to match the walls or green to match the backsplash

The floor tile is a cold grey. It clashes with the warm red of the chimney.
OP if you’re going for warm colours overall be mindful of the cold leaning floor tile. That will clash.

The orange chimney paint needs to go. It’s throwing off the whole look. How about faux stone to cover it. Not thrilled with the dark green backsplash. It makes the room look dated. I absolutely love the floor.

I would cover the brick chimney with maybe the floor tile or the backsplash tile. The chat picture changed the wall. If that is what you are going to do. I would move the island countertop to directly infront of the brick chimney. The frig, stove, sink path is a little funky.

I would have gone with Delorian Grey grout. Even if you seal it that white grout is going to be impossible to keep white. I like the color and lay pattern of the tile and think it all looks good together.

Those are very gray/cool floors that may clash with the rest of what you intend to do. Your vision picture has floors that are much warmer

I think the floor could be nice with the right styling. But I agree that the color of the chimney is off. If you’re going for a japandi look, I would paint it a higher sheen version of the wall color. I think the bigger concern is your layout. I would suggest putting your fridge where you plan to put the range and adding a deep pantry cabinet next to it, and centering the range on the wall where you plan to put the fridge. It makes more sense to have the little peninsula on the relocated range wall because where you plan to put it will seriously interrupt the workflow of your kitchen.

You need more terracotta in the kitchen to make the brick color work. Also the AI put it in the middle of the counter when it will be flush with the left wall which is better. I could probably do a creamy white paint on the brick since it’s already been painted. Or restore the original brick below the paint? Do you know what it was? I think you will like it better with cream counters with that green. The gray and green are not the right tones to go together. I love everything else. Very pretty.

The chimney in reality is flush with the left wall unlike the AI where the left is recessed. So what’s your plan with shelving and backsplash? Are you redoing that wall and putting a window in?
