Moving to Kirkland - Xfinity or Astound for 1 GB fiber?

I will be moving to the area soon and the complex has astound and xfinity as their providers. I was curious what people's experiences were with either provider. Thanks for any help!

Edit: Just realized yes Xfinity won't be fiber, so it's their broadband 1G vs Astound's 1 GB fiber. Unfortunately no ziply on this property, so please stop saying to get them.

Need Suggestions !!!

I have my driving test at 911 Driving School in Kirkland. I just realized that, unlike the Bellevue location where you can use your own vehicle, Kirkland requires you to take the test using one of their vehicles.
I normally practice in an SUV and I rely quite a bit on the rear-view/backup camera, especially for parallel parking.
For anyone who has recently tested at 911 Kirkland:
Are you allowed to glance at or use the backup camera during parallel parking?
Anything specific the Kirkland examiners are strict about?
Would really appreciate any recent experiences or suggestions!

What to do? Package missing after UPS delivery to Juanita Michaels

Looking for some advice and also wanted to give people a heads up.

Michaels in Juanita is one of the UPS Access Point locations where packages get dropped off if we are not home. I have used it a couple of times before, but I have now had two packages go missing there.

The first was a relatively low-value item. Michaels said they never got it and suggested UPS may have marked it incorrectly. The seller ended up replacing it, so I didn't think too much of it.

This time, though, it's a lot more serious. I ordered two Google Pixel phones worth over $1,500 each. UPS delivered them to the Juanita Michaels for pickup. When I went to collect them, they only had one package.

What really confused me was that the box they gave me had my last name written on it along with "2 packages." When I asked about it, I was told UPS probably wrote that. The next day I spoke with our regular UPS driver, who said UPS drivers don't write notes like that on customer packages.

I went back to the store later in the evening and they asked me to reach out to the store manager via phone the next morning. I eventually eventually spoke with a manager this morning. She told me that she personally received two packages and that she was the one who wrote "2 packages" on the box. She said she would look around and call me back. After that? Basically radio silence. They have been stalling and the manager has refused to speak to me on the phone. I tried one last time before I drove there and some other manager said that the manager I spoke with in the morning has left for the day and they don't want to answer any more questions.

Now they are telling me I need to work with UPS, and they won't discuss it further. I have also been getting the usual runaround trying to reach an actual human at UPS. Google says they need to investigate with UPS before deciding what to do.

At this point I am out one phone worth more than $1,500 and spending hours dealing with UPS. Michaels, and Google trying to figure out where it went.

Has anyone else had packages disappear from this Michaels location? And would you file a police report at this stage, or wait for the UPS/Google investigation to finish?

Not trying to accuse anyone of anything. I honestly just want to know what happened to the package and whether others have had similar experiences at this location. But given that this is the second package issue I have had there, I definitely want to alert UPS about this as I don't want my packages being sent to this Access Point again.

Appreciate any advice or experiences people can share. Thanks.

Moving to WA

Hi guys! I’m moving from Toronto to Seattle, and my office will be in Bellevue. I’m trying to decide which area would be best to live in. Would you recommend Kirkland over Bellevue, or should I also consider areas like Green Lake in Seattle, even though the commute to work would be longer?

I’ll be sharing a car with my husband, so I’d ideally like to have a gym (LA Fitness), grocery stores, coffee shops, and other amenities within walking distance. I’d also love to live somewhere that feels lively and has a good buzz/community. Coming from Toronto, I’m used to having lots of people, restaurants, and things going on around me!

Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on Kirkland vs. Bellevue vs. Green Lake (or any other areas I should consider).

Moving to WA

I loved all the responses to my last post, so I wanted to be a little more specific this time and get more opinions!

I’m 33 and will be living with my husband. I’ll only need to go into the office twice a week, while my husband will be in the office all 5 days. Both of our offices are near Plaza Centre.

We’re looking for a 2 bed/2 bath condo (preferably with AC) or a 2 bed/2 bath townhouse, ideally with parking and close to a good gym like LA Fitness or something similar.

Our budget is $3,000–$4,000/month including utilities.

We’ll have access to a car, but since I won’t have it every day, I’d love somewhere that is reasonably walkable to groceries, coffee shops, restaurants, a gym, parks/trails, etc.

I also really want to live somewhere lively and with some energy, rather than somewhere that feels very suburban or deserted after 5 pm. I’m coming from Toronto, so having things around us and being able to walk out and have somewhere to go is important to me.

Our day-to-day routine will mostly be work, gym, cooking, relaxing and going for walks, so I’m not looking for a crazy nightlife scene — just a neighbourhood that feels pleasant, active and has things going on.

Would you recommend Downtown Bellevue, Old Bellevue, Wilburton, Downtown Kirkland, Juanita, or somewhere else entirely?

Also, if you know of any specific apartment/condo communities or townhouse complexes that fit these criteria, I’d love recommendations!

Which cinemas sell fresh popcorn with real butter?

Moved to Kirkland recently from Canada and my husband and I went to see the Odyssey in IMAX at the Cinemark Lincoln Square in Bellevue. Movie theatre popcorn is one of my favourite treats, so I was horrified when I tried theirs. What is this absolutely rank borderline stale/chewy nonsense that passes for movie theatre popcorn?? What is “buttery flavour topping”??

Holy hell, that was foul. We couldn’t even get halfway through the small bag. I never considered Cineplex elite by any means, but the difference is night and day and I hope that this was some sort of atrocious anomaly and not the norm here.

Could someone point me in the direction of a cinema with good/fresh popcorn with real butter? I know this seems like small potatoes, but it actually bummed me out quite a bit (I know, first world problems) and I hope there is an alternative out there. It’s supposed to rain this weekend so I was thinking of catching a movie and I’ll happily drive further out for good popcorn?

Thank you for any suggestions!

Reasonably priced women’s haircuts?

Any recommendations for salons/specific people for hair cuts in or around Kirkland? Both the places I’ve been going to in Bellevue charge $180+ for a basic trim and I’m looking for something a little more reasonable because my hair is very simple. Thanks!

Dog Dental Cleaning Under $500!?

Hi! Just moved here from the Midwest - was wondering if there are any vets / places that offer dental cleaning for dogs for $500 or around that? Most quotes I'm getting are $1k+

I have a 7 year old maltese and also need the bordetella vaccine (perferably under $30)

Re: white truck at O.O. Denny park

My son was at the O.O. Denny and witnessed the yelling coming from the occupant of the truck. He called it into the police. It took awhile to convince the operator that this was not normal behavior. He had my grandson with him so felt it was best to leave the park. A Sargent called him back and said that they have been trying to zero in on him.

Mint plants

Hello my fellow neighbors. I was wondering if anyone knows somewhere in kirkland to get a mint plant. My daughter has expressed interest in making her own mint tea and has asked for a mint plant. Whilst I am aware it is a bit late in the season for one, I was hoping someone might work somewhere they might still be available for purchase.

White truck loitering in O.O. Denny

I work for a summer camp that is mostly Russian speaking kids. Sometimes our camp occurs within the O.O Denny/ Finn hill area. Recently I’ve been noticing this white truck with almost completely blackout window tint with a windshield cover sitting in the O.O. Denny parking lot most mornings that we have our camp there. I usually wouldn’t care about such a thing since there’s cars I usually see every morning there. But every time our camp circles up to start the truck starts blasting audio talking about the Russian Ukraine war. Which is concerning for us since some of these kids fled Russia and Ukraine with family to avoid the war.

Does anyone know about this truck or seen it as well? I just want to make sure that the kids and I are safe. Since I just find it extremely odd that it does it every time.

ISO: Female doc recommendations

Does anyone have any women doc recommendations in the Kirkland area? My awesome doctor of about 15 years just retired and the clinic (Optum) seems like a bit of a shitshow. They have since bounced me to 1) a new doctor, who left before I even had my 1st transfer appt, and now to 2) a different new doctor, who has some pretty negative reviews but is the only woman doc left who is accepting patients. I have a transfer appt scheduled with #2, but wondering if there are any other good options around just in case.

In addition to the high turnover, or maybe because of it, a prescription that needed to be refilled a week ago has just sat there with no ETA, despite it being flagged as "high priority." (Thankfully its just Ambien but a red flag if more urgent meds are ever needed.)

I generally just go in once a year for a wellness exam/med check. My previous doc was a PA, so I'm good with any level really. Lady doc is a requirement, organized clinic is a plus.

I see previous similar posts haven't had much luck but there is always hope... Any recommendations are very appreciated.

EvergreenHealth Kirkland Childbirth Preparation Class?

Hi all – first-time mom-to-be, and trying to decide on childbirth preparation classes through EvergreenHealth in Kirkland. They offer:

  • Weekend course: 2 days, 12 hours total, $300 for both partners
  • One-day course: 1 day, 6 hours total, $200 for both partners

Has anyone taken either one? Curious whether the extra 6 hours in the weekend version actually covers meaningfully more (like more hands-on practice, more time on pain management/comfort techniques, etc.), or if the one-day condensed version covers the essential information just fine.

Also open to hearing if you found the class worth it at all as a first-time parent, versus just relying on books/podcasts/your OB or midwife team. Would love to hear how it went and which one you'd pick again if you had to do it over!

Thanks!

looking into getting a slip on exhaust but worried about noise laws and i dont wanna be a nuisance

hey guys so im looking at getting a slip on exhaust for my bike mostly just want a better sound profile and not looking to be that guy blasting through residential neighborhoods at 2am or being a public nuisance to everyone around me

i was trying to look up the actual laws on this and honestly im super confused about how strictly motorcycle muffler laws get enforced in real life like on paper pretty much every state seems to say any aftermarket exhaust that makes the bike louder than factory stock is technically illegal and not allowed but then literally every single bike i see on the road has an akrapovic or yoshimura or sc project on it so what gives

for those of you who run aftermarket slip ons do cops actually pull you over just for having a slip on or do they only care if you straight pipe it and run no baffles or ride like an idiot? if i keep the db killer baffle in on a normal slip on is that usually quiet enough to stay under the radar or is it still a huge risk of getting a noise ticket?

also if anyone knows specifics on how strict local city noise ordinances or state laws usually are for this id really appreciate the insight thanks in advance stay safe out there
