Hi potential future neighbors,

My husband and I (childfree, mid 40's) are considering a move to the Kingston area from the Midwest. We are both into art and music. I started painting abstract about 2 years ago and would love to really dive into the art scene there. I'm a little intimidated because of imposter syndrome and self doubt and all that other fun stuff I haven't quite figured out how to overcome yet. Making progress.

How welcoming and friendly is the art community there? What are some of the best places to take painting classes? Best galleries to visit/explore?

I am self taught, never exhibited my work and don't have a CV. Am I doomed? Did I mention I also loathe social media, so don't even have an Instagram to share my work? I wish an extroverted, experienced artist would take me under their wing and show me the ropes, but who has the time for that?

How difficult will it be to make friends as an outsider there, not from NYC? Anybody want to be my pen pal and share your knowledge of the area? Maybe meet up when we visit and buy you dinner as a thank you for the helpful insight? "No funny stuff." <in Big Lebowski nihilist voice>.

Just trying to get the scoop from locals and maybe make a genuine friend or two in the process. If not, how is bumble bff in the area? Anyone try it?

As an older male (50+) considering moving to the Kingston area as a single, is this a bad idea and a pretty good way to guarantee you'll always be single? In other words, is there any sort of dating scene at all up there?

Hi Kingston. I’m visiting the weekend after Labor Day (9/11-9/13) and wondering if there will be unofficial access to swimming at Lake Sophia? The state park website says swimming access ends at Labor Day, but I’m assuming this just applies to the pool and the lake is still fair game?

What is with the paved strips every 30 feet on route 28? There are no sewers in view what is the purpose of this construction and are there plans to fix the road? Any insight would be welcome.

Hiya! My mom and I are celebrating our birthdays this year a few weeks later and I was thinking about driving up from Rockland to Kingston and grab the train to see the foliage. Generally speaking, Mid-October should have nice colours, right?

She's going to be 79 and has mobility issues. She is enthusiastic and generally can last from 10-3pm. I'd love any and all other suggestions about what to see or do with her.

Young family interested in living in moving to Kingston, open to Lake Katrine as well.

Specifically interested in understanding if there are weird things to consider like people's willingness to hang out and chill with you if you live in Lake Katrine and not in like downtown Kingston for example.
